Manga Question
Does Trunks go back to the future and defeat the androids after cell is defeated in the present, in the manga?
I wanted a mission, and for my sins, they gave me one.
Re: Manga Question

Re: Manga Question
Awesome. I am looking to read the complete manga for the first time and am curious if there is a good english translation out there. I think a while back someone gave me some manga scans, but I would rather have an actual book to read. I have heard that Viz released an edited manga.

Re: Manga Question
You'd be much better off sticking with Viz's volumes; even though they have some censorship, they are on the whole competently done. Internet scanslators are, in general, rock stupid.

Re: Manga Question
Yes. They don't stick as close to the original lines as the Funi DVD subtitles, but they're still accurate enough for all general purposes, and I doubt you'd find any scanslation as good.skatezeppelin wrote:Ok are the viz translations accurate

Re: Manga Question
I am looking at starting off with the Dragonball manga. Should I get the boxed set, or the individual volumes? I hear that the vizbig editions are uncensored. Although, I like the original compact size, I would sacrifice for the uncut version.

Re: Manga Question
All the versions of the manga have a degree of censorship. For example, Mr. Popo`s lips were censored in every version.skatezeppelin wrote:I am looking at starting off with the Dragonball manga. That being said, the Vizbigs only have slight censorship (you wouldn`t even notice if you didn`t know about it), they have most of the original color pages, they have Kankenban-like quality paper and frame size and they are cheaper than the normal editions.
But some of the normal editions have even less censorship in the few first volumes than the Vizbigs, others have more, and others have the same, it just depends on the edition (I would advise you to look inside before buying because there is no way to tell which kind of censorship might be inside. The Vizbig`s censorship is consistent, so that problem doesn`t exist).
My advice to you is to get the Vizbigs. But if you truly prefer the normal edition and you want the most uncensored version, I would advice you to get the volumes of the normal edition (but only after looking inside to check the censorship).
Re: Manga Question
VizBigs aren't completely unedited, but the edits are few and far between, really. They're probably the best choice if you want the manga in English, due to the large size, paper quality, good value for money, and inclusion of many of the colored pages.skatezeppelin wrote:I am looking at starting off with the Dragonball manga. I personally own the smaller, individual volumes, but you never quite know what you're getting with them; some printings are edited less than the VizBigs, while others are edited more. To be honest though, Dragon Ball doesn't have a lot that needs major censoring, and most of the changes are so small that you wouldn't notice them on a normal read through.
Edit: rereboy beat me to it. I'll add that even if you look inside the smaller volumes, you'd have to know what you were looking for to see the difference. There are probably a lot of volumes that don't have any edits at all, simply because there's nothing that needs it, and there are others that I owned for ages before I realized something had been changed.

Re: Manga Question
Ok vizbigs it is. I will most likely purchase them from Amazon because of their low prices, but I work at Gamestop, and I believe I also get a discount at Barnes and Noble as well, so I will look at them in store. Do you know how many volumes there is? I only see five online, but I know they have multiple volumes included.

Each Vizbig Volume has 3 original volumes insides.skatezeppelin wrote:Ok vizbigs it is. The only exceptions are DB Vizbig Volume 5 which has 4 volumes inside and DBZ Vizbig Volume 9 which will have 2 volumes inside (it is scheduled to be released in October).
The DB collection has 5 Vizbig Volumes. The DBZ collection has/will have 9 Vizbig Volumes (7 have already been released, nº 8 is scheduled to be released next month, and nº 9 scheduled to be released in October).
Re: Manga Question
Is there a website that lists the viz cuts? I'm kind of curious.
I have both the French manga series (Glenat) and the Japanese one. I bought the Japanese series because I thought there were some pages in color, but its still all in black and white

Re: Manga Question
Awesome, so you guys definitely recommend the vizbigs? I have very little money left and I wanna get the best product, also, with the vizbigs it seems like I would save money, especially on DBZ.
I get a discount of 30%, so thats about $9 a volume

Re: Manga Question
The Vizbig collection has the best quality price ratio that I know of in manga. And, even without looking at the price, they are clearly superior to the normal edition because of its other advantages.skatezeppelin wrote:Awesome, so you guys definitely recommend the vizbigs? Re: Manga Question
The non censored ones are from internet scanlations, not official releases.frozie wrote:Is there a website that lists the viz cuts? I'm kind of curious.

(this is a middle finger example. This or something similar happens every time a middle finger shows up so I only put one example. It doesn`t happen that often, though. Maybe 3 or 4 times in DB and DBZ, I can`t be sure.)

(this is a Mr popo example. I only put this one as an example because this happens every time he appears)
Besides those, Black also has his lips altered to make them look darker.
Those are all the edits that exist in DB. In DBZ, there are only 3 edits. They censored Gohan`s nudity, they removed Future #17 gun from his hand to make it look like it didn`t kill an old man with a gun but with his hand, and the rifles of the punks who shot Buu`s dog are altered to make it look like laser rifles (futuristics rifles) instead of realistic rifles.
These are all the edits that exist in the VizBig Collection of DB and DBZ. The normal edition sometimes has more and sometimes has slightly less (in the earlier volumes).

High white quality paper (instead of medium grey quality paper) and consistent censorship.skatezeppelin wrote:Advantages? And obviously the price.
Re: Manga Question
Thanks for that rereboy
The french publication of the manga has those scenes uncut
Sometimes the censorship is in Japan though. For example, in Video Girl Ai, there is a scene in which a girl is shown naked in water, and the Japanese publisher censored the image by raising the water level to hide her crotch, whereas the French publication in Europe had the original drawing unedited

That`s interesting. Japan has surely changedfrozie wrote:Thanks for that rereboy

But anyway, in a 42 volume manga, the censorship I posted is not much at all. It doesn`t bother me at all.
Re: Manga Question
The censoring was done for the rereleases, though, they were originally published unedited. There were also a bunch of other changes done to the series. It all seems terribly unnecessary, but there you have it.frozie wrote: Sometimes the censorship is in Japan though.
