In Kai I can't hear a single trace of McNeil. Sorry, penguintruth.

Well, it's there. It's not as bad as before, though. Sabat's sounding a bit more natural this time around.

Indeed, Sabat has truly made the role his own now, and this is coming from someone who is a HUGE fan of Mcneil.ohaimynameiserik wrote:In Kai I can't hear a single trace of McNeil. Sorry, penguintruth.
Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
Double Ditto, Piccolo is pretty much a slightly deeper version of his normal speaking voice now. Compare his Piccolo to his Zoro in One Piece, and they sound really close, and Zoro IS just his normal speaking voice.MR.Mark wrote:Indeed, Sabat has truly made the role his own now, and this is coming from someone who is a HUGE fan of Mcneil.ohaimynameiserik wrote:In Kai I can't hear a single trace of McNeil. Sorry penguintruth, but I think you're just so hung up on the old performances being bad that you can't forget them enough to be objective here.

Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
Look, I definitely appreciate how Sabat's Piccolo has improved. It's much more natural-sounding, less of that forcing himself into "generic gruffy demon voice" and more snark and a kind of world-wariness. But it still seems like a lesser Scott McNeil Piccolo in some ways, and certainly isn't anywhere as good.

Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
Well, my Blu-ray finally arrived so my brother and I have been sitting down and watching for a while now, we're on the scene where Kaio wants Son to tell him a Joke to train him.
I have to say that was cleverly adapted. "I Sold my car for Gas money" was pretty good. Sufficiently lame, and it was great for it.
I have to say, I am LOVING this! I'm a fan of the Japanese version, and my brother is a hardcore dubbie who watches out of nostalgia, and we're both enjoying this greatly.
FINALLY Dragon Ball has a good dub. Sure it's not perfect, but it's a GODSEND Compared to what we used to have.
And I have to say, the Remastering and redrawing looks LEAGUES Better in Fullscreen True HD like this, it's really the way Kai was meant to be seen.
EDIT: "You Dim Sum and you Lose Sum" HAHA! It was a pun! That was pure Kaio!

Instead of repeating yourself, can you please explain exactly WHAT about Sabats current voice for Piccolo sounds like McNeil?penguintruth wrote: But it still seems like a lesser Scott McNeil Piccolo in some ways, and certainly isn't anywhere as good.
Seriously, your argument holds no water, it's like saying Dinobot and Megatron from Beastwars sound the same.
Definitely, before I got Kai on blu ray, I thought the redrawn scenes would be one of those flaws I'd have to except. However, if vol 1 is any indication of how Kai will look for the rest of the series then I'm satisfied. You absolutely CANNOT judge the quality of the redone scenes from online downloads, not at all. Infact some of the redone stuff made me wish all the animation would pop as well in HD. The redone scene of Kurirn and Piccolo's ki attack on Nappa when Gohan cowered was REALLY pleasing on the eyes. Even the "bad" redone shots look way better in HD.DemonRin wrote: the Remastering and redrawing looks LEAGUES Better in Fullscreen True HD like this, it's really the way Kai was meant to be seen.

"slowku" was a sufficiently silly pun too.
Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
Even though I'm not crazy about Sean's Kaio voice, I can't deny that some of his delivery as the character are genuinely funny. His little "thatwasfun" after he drove his car around his planetoid was lol worthy, it was all in the timing and delivery.

Hmm. I remember Saban-era Kaio being given the line, "I'll have all the Dim Sum... and then some!" Just reminded me of that.DemonRin wrote:EDIT: "You Dim Sum and you Lose Sum" HAHA! It was a pun! That was pure Kaio!

Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
Yeah, really. When Chris started out doing Piccolo, he sounded a lot like Scott's version of the character. But like many of the other sound-alikes in Season 3, he's changed his voice for the character and now sounds better than the performance he was hired to imitate.penguintruth wrote:Eh, not really.omegacwa wrote:His Piccolo is definitely his most well developed voice. Kudos. He finally stepped out of the shadow of Scott McNeil.

I thought Kai said "You DIN some, and you lose some." As in...Goku was eating DINner at the time.

That low-rate generic gruffness in his voice when he screams, like he's still trying to imitate McNeil's raspiness.MR.Mark wrote:Instead of repeating yourself, can you please explain exactly WHAT about Sabats current voice for Piccolo sounds like McNeil?
There's no way Sabat's Piccolo is better than McNeil's. It's fine, but it's not nearly as good. McNeil's Piccolo has a lot of character to it, while Sabat's is still a little bland at times.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:he's changed his voice for the character and now sounds better than the performance he was hired to imitate.

So because there's a little rasp to his screaming, he sounds like McNeil? Hmmm, nope, that's a flimsy argument. I guess Ryo Horikawas aged voice in Kai sounds like McNeil now too? Watch out Scott! Brian Drummond and every person with rasp known to mankind is stealing your act!penguintruth wrote:That low-rate generic gruffness in his voice when he screams, like he's still trying to imitate McNeil's raspiness.
We'll never truly know for sure If McNeil would of been a better Piccolo since he was never given a good enough script or direction when he dubbed the DBZ series. I'm afraid Sabat deserves his kudos in this case, in the Kai dub at least.penguintruth wrote:There's no way Sabat's Piccolo is better than McNeil's.
Re: Dragonball Kai Dub
To me, McNeil's Piccolo always sounded like a semi-generic demon voice. It was cool as a kid, but I had a fallout with it. Sabat's Piccolo, though, has improved into it's own, less ridiculous, role.

He continues to carry around the same McNeil-imitation scream from the beginning of season 3. It has nothing to do with just having a little rasp to his voice.
You're forgetting about the Ocean dubs of the first three movies.penguintruth wrote: We'll never truly know for sure If McNeil would of been a better Piccolo since he was never given a good enough script or direction when he dubbed the DBZ series.

Well, so far you've failed to convince anyone here with any concrete evidence. So I wouldn't be resorting to personal attacks about pretending to be clever if I were you.penguintruth wrote: He continues to carry around the same McNeil-imitation scream from the beginning of season 3. That's Piccolo as written by Toei, not Toriyama, not enough to go on for me. I'm taking about the manga adapted anime here, the real Piccolo.penguintruth wrote: You're forgetting about the Ocean dubs of the first three movies.
