Freeza knowing of someone more powerful than him?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

The Daizenshuu numbers can't be both right and wrong. They're either correct - in which case, Goku let himself be beaten up by another fighter that was weaker than him by 30 million battle power...points (?), or they're simply wrong. In which case, they don't have any bearing on the fight. The only way I could see them working is if Freeza is in his burned out state.
caejones wrote:I've seen the Vegeta/Cui fight cited as a "percentage comparison" of sorts.
The percentage comes from Goku vs. Vegeta. That's the closest fight with absolutely concrete battle powers that we have to base this off of. Goku (with a BP of 16,000) was outclassed by Vegeta (with a BP of 18,000), fairly easily there. Their powers had a difference of 1.125x between them. In other words, you only need to be 1.125x stronger than your opponent to have your victory in the bag.

Or, in other words, a difference of about 11%. 16000 equals about 89% of 18000.

Which would mean that the 20% difference given by the Daizenshuu is indeed a bit too much (especially knowing that Vegeta also vaporized Cui with a difference of 25%).

Yes, you could say that. But using the multipliers is better than using percentages, since the multipliers can also be easily used in conjunction with different transformations. And in-universe, multipliers are what's used to quantify power increases more often than percentages. In fact, I can't think of a single time a percentage is used by any of the characters to quantify power.

I like to use percentages because it allows me to figure out immediately exactly how strong someone is compared to another or to a certain power.

For example, in the case of Vegeta and Goku, saying that Vegeta is 1.125x stronger than Goku, although its correct, it doesn`t allow me to figure out immediately and exactly how strong he is in my mind. The first time I read "1.125x stronger" I had some trouble figuring out just how much that really is. But if I say or read 89% or a difference of 11% the difference is much clearer.

To me, anyways.

MR.Mark wrote:Now we're just going in circles in this debate.
If you consider that going in circles, okay. I already posted evidence countering:
In the end, Son Goku proved his point, that they were not equals. As shooting ki at each other is completely different than exchanging fisticuffs. When the real fighting began AKA "the body blow battle" as Freeza put it. Goku started dominating, because at that point, he choose to end the fight and got completely serious. He was through humiliating Freeza, and the planet was about to blow, so he quit soon after whooping his ass.

That was one of the main points of Son Goku's entire last speech, that Freeza was NO match for him in the end, even at his 100% best. It was everything Freeza feared, coming true, his worst nightmare. Being defeated by a Super Saiyan and utterly humiliated by a force he was in denial about for most of his life. To suggest Freeza was equal with the legendary Super Saiyan, who's very destiny was to defeat him, just takes away from the story.
I countered all of this with pictures from the manga, and even counted landed hits to see how they stacked up to boot. And it turned up relatively even. Why do you keep on ignoring this?

As a matter of fact, each time I've pointed this out you've still ignored it, and insisted that Goku was vastly superior anyway. But where is your proof? Besides the proof that has been countered, I mean?
This is were the debate ends for me and we agree to disagree, I've backed up my opinions, so I take my leave.
Well, if you insist. Although I really think there could have been a conclusion to this if you held out a little longer.
Godo wrote:The fight itself was very evenly matched, but mainly because of Freeza's cheap shots.
What cheap shots occurred? If you want to double check their manga fight, I posted it on one of the previous pages. There weren't any cheap shots, and the exchange in total hits was still relatively even.
But their powers weren't very evenly matched. To be very evenly matched, the difference between their powers should have a difference of around 1,000,000 - 5,000,000. But their difference was much higher, 30,000,000.
Well if you're going to bring up the Daizenshuu battle powers, then I suppose that's fine... according to the Daizenshuu, such a difference in power is still considered "Rivaled". As the cultivars were considered to have battle powers that rivaled Raditz'. The Daizenshuu and manga both state this, while the Daiz gives a battle power of 1,500 to Raditz, and we all know the Cultivars are at 1,200. Coincidentally, this is the exact same difference as the battle powers given to Goku vs Freeza. 1.25x. But it's still considered to be a similar level of power to the Daizenshuu.

What's more, you really shouldn't be putting what a databook says in higher regard than the actual fight. What was shown was that they were closely matched in the manga, maybe the Daizenshuu numbers don't tell the same story.
Still, the Daizenshuu's numbers explain why Goku wasn't out of breath against Freeza. If he had a higher power, then surely he would have a higher stamina during the fight.
If they were more or less equal, then Goku would be in a pretty bad state too.
That would actually take some time to happen, which they didn't have a lot of to do battle. I mean, they only fought for an actual total of like three minutes (Shave off two for some talking and the whole Porunga thing)

The whole reason Freeza himself was tired was because of his insufficient 100% bulk, which Goku himself states that Freeza wears out far too quickly because of. This is why only Freeza was tired, and Goku was not.

As for the differences between battle powers, it's best not to think too much about them as it can become a real headache. Especially if you try to make the Daizenshuu numbers work.

Excatly, If Son was truly winded at any point from Freeza's 100% assualt, how do you explain his lack of fatigue at the end of the fight? Unless Son Goku had some ability to heal himself and get relaxed magically over periods of time. All signs point to Freeza being no challenge to SSJ Goku at any time.
rereboy wrote:Well, the Daizenshuu is probably thinking in terms of percentage. 120 millions translates to 80% of 150 millions, meaning that Goku would have 20% more power.
Sounds about right to me, especially in the what Toriyama shows us in the dragon ball world. It doesn't completely dwarf Freeza at 100%, but like I said, it's enough to dominate and be his superior the whole time.

He stopped being tired, because the fight wasn't difficult anymore. His dialogue made that clear.

Is anyone going to point out where the domination ever occurred? It never happened until after Freeza's power dropped. They were close in power and the fight clearly showed that, why is that such an unthinkable concept?

And MR.Mark, arguing author intent when we as the readers can only guess at such a thing is certainly not a valid argument. Honestly, I've never heard anything more opinionated than someone sitting there and telling me what it is Toriyama intended for the story. Everyone has their own interpretation on that subject. Leave it out of this please. Oh, and I really would like to know why you continue to ignore my posts? It's a little frustrating for me to post evidence, only to have it ignored by you, all while you simply repeat what your opinion is instead of addressing my points. :x

Actually his power level was over 16,000 because his base was was over 8,000. So the gap would be even smaller.

If it was significantly over 8,000, Vegeta would've mentioned it. It's best to just round it down to a simple "8,000", since he couldn't be that much stronger. And when he starts to go beyond Kaio-ken x2, his BP was just climbing up to 17,000.

*Freeza powers up to 100%, beats on Goku*

Freeza: take that and that! Haha I am the best, this is just a warm up, I'm a delusional bastard bla bla bla.

*Son Goku completely unaffected*

Goku: Pfff, is that all ya got?

Unless you want to suggest Freeza's power started dropping the instant he powered up to 100%. Seems clear SSJ Goku controlled the fight to me.

That isn't really how the fight went down...

Are there any specific scenes you can bring up? Like Cableguy said, where is this 100% utter domination ever displayed by Goku? Is there anything that refutes Goku's Kamehameha being tanked, or Goku being all bloody at the end of their fight?

We've already gone over this. You're basing such a claim on a warm up of all things? When the rest of the fight was completely even? And now that I look at it, I really think Goku was just talking tough. He was spitting out blood after he took the initial "Warm up" attack. It's not like it had no effect at all. The benefit of being on a similar level is that you can take each others' attacks for a while. This was the case for both fighters.

Controlling? If he had complete control of the fight and could have won any time, tell me, what's the point of prolonging the fight and risking your life? He can just as easily prove his point by winning right away.

And in other undeniably even battles (Gohan vs. Dabura, Piccolo vs, #17), they all used attacks that did virtually no significant damage to the other fighter. And all that does is prove what we already knew - they were fighting evenly. So you can't say that Goku shrugged off every attack by Freeza and held the fate of the battle in the palm of his hands the entire time, when you still haven't been able to back this up.

Yes it is, how does 100% Freeza beating on SSJ Goku with everything he has, followed by Goku shrugging it off, show two near equals in power? Doesn't seem logical to me, Freeza was breathing heavily after that "warm up". Showing time and time again that he acts in denial when faced with the reality of people stronger than him.

Cheap shots can make you bleed, no matter how much stronger you are.

Remember all that talk about Goku wanting to humiliate Freeza? Yeah, that's part of the story, it's in the manga.

Well...that wasn't the fight. It was a preemptive attack.

No, they really can't. Why would you think this? And why are you so insistent that Freeza only ever got in these "cheap shots"? And why haven't you explained how Goku's Kamehameha was resisted yet? Or why Goku waited until a specific change in Freeza's power occurred to realize that the fight wasn't a challenge?

Okay, what does that have to do with Goku holding back for no reason as you believe? Freeza was humiliated because he was surpassed and beaten by a Saiyan. Better yet, a Super Saiyan, his worst nightmare.

He wasn't holding back in that fight, no way. It defeats the purpose of everything that transpired, including:

- Goku buying time for Gohan and the others to escape. If he could have easily beaten Freeza, there's no reason for that.
- Goku clearly yelling "DIE!!!" at Freeza (As I've informed you three times now) while firing his most powerful attack at him.
- Goku wanting to settle the score once and for all. You don't do that by holding back an entire fight until your opponent is worn out.
So was Goku stronger or not? You seem to flip-flop on the subject.
You answered your own question.

That's not a flip flop, it's what I've been saying all along. Why are you bringing this up again? We've already established what we're arguing about. I think Goku and Freeza were close in power, you think Goku could have beaten him at any time if he wanted to, correct?

You missed the whole point of the wish to teleport everyone except Goku and Freeza to Earth. Son Goku WAS buying time and holding back, humiliating Freeza. Once Gohan and the others were off Namek, what did Son do? That's right, he got down on the ground, because he was ready to end it, and beat Freeza's ass.

He even says now he doesn't have to worry about the others and fight with all he had; Goku controlled the fight, plain and simple.

He didn't risk dying just to humiliate someone that could've been ended in a single attack. And that would've been even more of a blow to Freeza's pride then letting himself get beat up, anyway. Giving someone 0 chance of winning is more of a humiliation than pretending that you're on their level.
