Which English dubbed episode are you most looking forward to

Gohan's fight with Cell. Somehow, I've never seen those episodes and I'm incredibly interested to watch them. And by then we'll see how his voice actress sounds as a teenager.

But Gohan was not a teenager when he fought Cell.

He does that in the Z Dub, too. Just sayin'

Well, first, his first line from the first in-house Funi dub episode: "My name is Goku and I'm a Saiyan...from Earth." And then when Vegeta dies, while Goku is burying him, he said, "You made a lot of mistakes...but you had the fiery will of a Saiyan - Please share that with me now, because I need it." or something like that.

That's not anywhere close to embracing his roots though. Your first example is more of a one liner, and the second sounds like a lame prayer, "Vegeta give me strength" , hallelujah!

Goku did, in fact, acknowledge his Saiyan nature in the English dub, but clearly you can see the gulf of difference in how these scenes were painted with the script. The dub treats Goku's Saiyan nature like a triviality.

Indeed, it was supposed to be a big defining moment in his character, especially since Son Goku is a character that doesn't change much throughout the story.

It's amazing that even when the script gets kinda close, the little changes here and there gives it a different feel. Like the fiery will line, just lame in how it's phrased in the dub. Sharing Vegeta's will/strength and embracing the pride of your race are two completely different things, the dub fucked up like it usually does.

My bad. Somewhere, I've seen Gohan at that stage referred to as "teen Gohan" and they called his actual teenage years something really awkward like "older teen Gohan," so I just assumed he was a teenager at that point.

But I do hope they make a healthy combination of the japanese and the american version when it comes to the dialogue between Future Trunks and Mecha Freeza. I know the original is solid, but I liked the attitude of the english dub.

The "Hope of the Universe" scene. It'll feel so awesome to finally have that scene written properly. That and the line before it, "You can destroy a planet, but it seems you can't even destroy a single man." I don't know that the lip flaps will allow for an exact translation of that line, but as long as its relatively close to the original wording, I'll be elated.

Apparently the podcast at Daizenshuu EX brought up how they hated the dub of this scene in the game. I was shocked to hear that, I just had a huge smile on my face when I heard this. I also remember being a little ticked when I heard that they hated this scene because I think of sub fans as a borderline-unsatisfiable group sometimes (when it comes to the dub, I mean). I mean, I totally understand how they would be angry with the stupid "Hope of the Universe," scene because I hate the writing for that scene as well, but then you give them the scene with the original script verbatim, with significantly better acting, and they're still not happy. I remember thinking, "How could you not be happy? I'm freaking elated right now!"

Then again, Schemmel is my favorite Goku, so aside from some of his Season 3 stuff, I've never particularly disliked his performance and think it has only gotten better. He's to me what Masako Nozawa is to sub fans. So, to each his own, really. I just figured that since all of the returning actors have only gotten substantially better for the dub of Kai, it'd be cool to hear an accurately-written version of this scene in the dub of the actual anime rather than just the videogame. Kind of a way of erasing the "Hope of the Universe" scene from history by correcting it.
