I really hope he makes it out okay. He obviously won't be able to record his last lines as Kami, though.

This is sad news, but at least he is ok and is recovering. So I looked up the voice actor who would be replacing him and it's Broly, this will be interesting to hear lol.

The article says the only role that Shimada's replacing is the grandfather in Chibi Maruko-chan. His roles in Kai and One Piece have yet to be replaced.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/20 ... ter-stroke
The ANN article wrote:As a result, 55-year-old Bin Shimada will substitute for Aono as Tomozou Sakura — the grandfather of the title character in the Chibi Maruko-chan television
anime series — starting with the episode that airs on Sunday.
He could replace Kami, but we don't know for sure yet...Aono also plays Kami-sama and Mihawk Juraquille on the Fuji TV anime series Dragon Ball Kai and One Piece, respectively, and Fuji TV is looking into recasting those roles as well.

Oh, my mistake I assumed this guy would replace his other roles, I jumped the gun there. So it's unknown exactly who might replace his roles in Kai and One Piece, I now understand.

No problem! I actually thought it said Shimada was replacing him at first too, but after I read the article over again, I realized that was wrong.Kienzan88gt wrote:Oh, my mistake I assumed this guy would replace his other roles, I jumped the gun there. Shimada wouldn't be that bad of a replacement, though....

Uh, Yanami was born in 1931. That makes him 79. Still pretty old though.Kai_fan wrote:Well. As was said, the guy IS 74 years old.
Yanami, at 81, is the one I'm most worried about hanging in there.
It's one thing to lose an actor who plays a non-critical character without all that much screen time left, it's another to lose the narrator!
Nozawa is 73, but I worry less about women, since they live longer than men.
Wow, 73, 74, 81, Furukawa is 63, Nakao is almost 60...
If they'd made Kai any later they'd have to dub it in a nursing home!

Where's the Dragon Balls when ya need em?
This guy is seriously an incredible VA, hope the best for his family!
He'll make a full recovery but it's sad that he couldn't finish his role as Kami..would be have been his best no doubt.

Re: Voice Actor Takeshi Aono Hospitalized After Stroke
Yeah, and the average age of the Dragon Ball cast right now is in the 50s, so they're actually fairly young (Which isn't surprising, really, considering that the anime finished just over a decade ago, that isn't a terribly long time). Takeshi Aono's on the upper end of the bell curve.Gaffer Tape wrote:No, they're not spring chickens, but the original cast was quite varied in age.
I always liked Takeshi's work. Hope he pulls through. :(

Goddamn, I can't help but feel a feeling that resembles joy after hearing Aono yell "DENSHIII JAAAAAAR!" This really freaking sucks.
