I've been rewatching some early DB lately, and I noticed something; the background characters are awesome. This is a thread all about posting pictures of the unsung heroes of Dragon Ball: the weirdos chillin' in the background. Post any of your favorites here. I'll get things rolling.
And Supes' fans say he could beat Goku! He didn't even make it past the prelims...

I just watched that scene recently too and the first thing I thought of was a buff cool looking Suppaman from Dr.Slump.
(Is Suppaman pronounced LIKE Super or is it pronounced like the Sup in Supper?)

It's スッパマン (
suppaman), so yes... more like "super", and not as in "supper"... though you are doubling the "pp" sound in there.

I think the "Suppa" comes from "Suppai", 酸 - っぱい = "Sour" since he "supposedly" gets his power from eating pickled plums.
For the hack of it, I just call him "Sourman".

You're not alone, that's what they called him in the Funi dub.

Here's another awesome one from the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai.
Look familiar? For those not too familiar with art, compare with this.
Oh, and the dude next to Scream Man seems to be wearing a Lucas Film shirt. I love Easter Eggs like this!

In the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai there was a background character that looked so out of place. He literally looked like a creature out of South Park. I'll have to try and screen cap him for this thread.

Are you talking about this guy?
There was a discussion about him. You can find it here:

No, he was only in the anime watching the tournament. He looked like a black cylinder Towlie.

I don't really know but because Budokai Tenkaichi design was inspired by Bali, that guy is an Indonesian.

Could be anything, really. The 21st Tenkaichi Budokai has some absolutely crazy background characters, so I wouldn't necessarily say anyone was supposed to be from a certain country without a picture as reference. Heck, the crazy 21st background characters were my inspiration for starting this thread. I've seen a giraffe, a fluffy bunny, a couple of cameos by characters from earlier in the series, and what appears to be an African man with a head shaped like that of an Easter Island head. I'll probably post more pictures later tonight or tomorrow.
On a side note, if anyone has something from a different part of the series, feel free to post it. I'm kinda focused on the 21st tournament at the moment, so it will likely be a while before I check other portions of the series.

Some monsters from the Dragon Quest series appear in the background at the 21st TB, like the Shaman (a guy in a robe, cape, and mask who's holding a scepter). You can also see Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tinman, and the Cowardly Lion in the audience at one point (as well as what I think must surely be Jack Pumpkinhead).

Awesome. You wouldn't know the episode number by any chance, would you? I can try to get screencaps later, but going through that many episodes to find one brief thing sucks. (The DQ characters will likely be difficult for me to find, though. I'm not that familiar with the series.)

My mistake, the Shaman actually appears at the 22nd TB, not the 21st. His main distinguishing characteristic is that he has a bat emblem on his shirt. He appears in manga chapter 104, and is probably most clearly visible after Kuririn throws the Andre the Giant lookalike out of the ring. In the final panel of the page, he appears to the left of Kuririn in the background. Unfortunately I don't know exactly when, or even if, he appears in the anime. I'm not very familiar with the anime version of this part of the series, sorry.
Dorothy and co. appear in chapter 40, in the panel where Giran first throws Goku out of the arena. They're in the lower left corner.
Oh, and in chapter 33 is what looks like the Staypuft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters.

Notice anybody from earlier in the story?
Also, I checked those manga background characters that Herms mentioned. They're awesome. (Thanks Herms) Unfortunately, I don't have a scanner. I recommend checking them out, though.

Yeah, Toriyama got really creative with the Tenka'ichi Budōkai audience.

That too, but he said earlier in the story, so I assumed he was referring to the Sherman Priest and Grandma Paozu analogues in front of him.
EDIT: Maybe he was referring to Ha-chan. I just assumed this was the 21st Budoukai, but I guess it could be the 22nd.

So, I've been going through the original
Dragon Ball with my girlfriend (she loves it and thinks its hilarious), and we kept pausing during the 21st Tenkaichi Bodokai just to look at the background characters.
"Did you catch the blue dildo monster in the background? I'll go back." (For real; forget where he showed up though. No clue what it was supposed to be.)
But the king of them all? Mr. Potatohead-Monster Face-Bird Man Guy. Catch him fleeing the front gates of the Budokai arena after Goku transforms. I'd absolutely love for someone to grab a screenshot of it.

Ah, I think this was what we referred to as the blue dildo monster.

Is this the guy?
