"Dragon Soul" - US Home Release, US TV or Japanese Version?

Re: "Dragon Soul" - Home Release, TV or Japanese Version?
If I had my druthers, I would have never translated "Dragon Soul" (and "Yeah! Break! Care! Break!") into English, even on the broadcast version.
But if I *had* to choose between Sean or Vic, I'd reluctantly go with Vic.

Because, of course, it hurts the franchise so much to have an English version. ;PBrakus wrote:If I had my druthers, I would have never translated "Dragon Soul" (and "Yeah! Break! Care! Break!") into English, even on the broadcast version.

Neither are as good as the original, but I'd have to go with Schemmel's version. Vic's is off.

He certainly is talented, but he's no Hironobu Kageyama or Ichiro Mizuki. (But then again, who is?)

I prefer Mignogna's version over Sean's. Even when Kai plays on Nicktoons I unconsciously sing Mignogna's.

That because it is Mignogna's version... or do you actually meant that?craddle wrote:I prefer Mignogna's version over Sean's. Even when Kai plays on Nicktoons I unconsciously sing Mignogna's.

Hmm... My version? No, no, that'd be too boastful. Though, really, I'd say... Hmm... It's quite difficult, as I quite like bits from each song. I probably like the Japanese version just that little bit more, but I do really like bits and pieces from each of them, including my version with its lyrics.

Sean's version. Vic's version kind of borders on sounding like a parody anime song sung by DVDA.

When the English version sucks, yeah.KaiserNeko wrote:Because, of course, it hurts the franchise so much to have an English version. ;PBrakus wrote:If I had my druthers, I would have never translated "Dragon Soul" (and "Yeah! Break! Care! Break!") into English, even on the broadcast version.

I stick with the home release, it just feels right to me.

Really? Sean and Vic's versions of Dragon Soul weren't as good as the original, but they didn't suck.Taku128 wrote:When the English version sucks, yeah.KaiserNeko wrote:Because, of course, it hurts the franchise so much to have an English version. ;PBrakus wrote:If I had my druthers, I would have never translated "Dragon Soul" (and "Yeah! Re: "Dragon Soul" - US Home Release, US TV or Japanese Version?
I loved both of them. I prefer Vic's a bit because of the energy, but even though Schemmel's has some auto-tune, I still like both.

I was talking about dubbing songs in general.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Really? Sean and Vic's versions of Dragon Soul weren't as good as the original, but they didn't suck.

Yeah, they're really hit and miss. Sometimes they turn out good and sometimes they turn out shit.Taku128 wrote:I was talking about dubbing songs in general.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Really? Sean and Vic's versions of Dragon Soul weren't as good as the original, but they didn't suck.

Well, I certainly wouldn't ever buy them. Tanimoto's version, I would buy, however.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Sean and Vic's versions of Dragon Soul weren't as good as the original, but they didn't suck.

I would have to go with Sean Schemmel's version. Vic's version makes me cringe every time I hear it. The original is best but I like Schemmel's more.

I actually really really like all three versions, but in terms of favorites... I would have to say it's Schemmel's.

Re: "Dragon Soul" - US Home Release, US TV or Japanese Version?
Japanese is Number One for me, without doubt. Who takes second and third, on the other hand is very close.
Sean's version would be almost equal to the Japanese for me, if it didn't sound so karaoke in respect to Vocals being so quiet against the instruments. Had it been more equalled out, it would've quite great, IMO.
I somewhat enjoy Vic's rendition except for the note that he VIOLENTLY hits off-key. That and the fact that it doesn't mirror the spirit of the Japanese version, forces this into third place and least favorite of the three versions of Dragon Soul.
Like some have already said, though, I agree that it would've made more sense to simply keep the theme songs in native Japanese. Most anime that I've seen don't try to make their own dubs of the songs, and it should be that way always. Ugh, oh well...

Keeping it in Japanese isn't the Dragon Ball way for FUNi. Though, it's nice that they dub songs (if they do them well).
