Why do you want Viz to release the Kanzenban?

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

I couldn't give a fuck about the censorship and missing colour pages in the VizBigs. I'm happy with the releases and I'm going to buy them as they come out. You guys can all pray that Viz releases the Kanzenbans, but don't hold your breaths.
I`m also happy with the Vizbigs. So happy in fact that I think that a Kanzenban release wouldn`t succeed commercially without the conditions I mentioned.

As for the censorship, I don`t see why they wouldn`t remove it. A kanzenban release would obviously be intended to the more "hardcore" fans, so they wouldn`t lose anything by removing the censorship and increasing the age classification of the release a bit, rating that one release for older teens. Its that simple, really.

Well, I live in the Netherlands and I'm about to order the first Kanzenban translated in Dutch. ( released by Glenat )
If a small country like the Netherlands gets the Kanzenbans, I can't imagine there will never be an American release!
Maybe not by Viz, but there could always be some other company that might release them right?
All I know is I'm very lucky to live in the Netherlands..

The only thing bothering me is how slow they're releasing the Kanzenbans, It's been over a year now, and they only just got to volume 7 after a three month wait. I've never actually read the Manga before so the thought of having to wait for another year
until they get to the 'Z' portion sucks big time.

Not unless Viz loses the rights to publish DB somehow.
Kanzenshuu: Is that place still around?
Sometimes, I tweet things
We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason.

I really doubt that. They hold the rights to everything Jump. If the lose Dragonball it would be as a ramification of losing everything. But seeing as Shueisha owns Viz... Yeah, not likely happening.

Ok that's too bad, I didn't know Viz is the only company allowed to release the manga.
I guess your biggest hope is that some other english speaking country will release the Kanzenban then?
I mean, if the Netherlands can get the Kanzenban ( and manga is nog very popular here ) I'm sure some other countries will get them in the future as well.

And as happy as I am being able to buy the Kanzenbans in my own language, I'm actually hoping for an English release myself!
I'd prefer to read it in English because for some reason Dragonball characters speaking Dutch can sound kind of lame to me  And the downside of the Dutch release is that it's not directly translated from the Japanese version, it's Japanese > French > Dutch, so some of the dialogue can be inaccurate ( although I think still prefer that to the Viz translation )

You brought up a great point, Raven! I don't know how the rights to the manga and its translations would work in other English-speaking countries, but that could be a possibility. From what I've heard, the UK and Australia either got American imports and/or re-printings by a local publisher. Can any of our British and Australian friends shed light on this?

They're all imports as far as I know. My copies that I bought in the UK and here in New Zealand all have "printed in the USA" on the inside and US/Canadian prices on the back covers. This is true for the old white cover copies and the newer, smaller copies with the red covers. I don't have any VizBigs, but it's likely the same for them, too.

I said that because I've heard accounts of both local printings and US imports. I saw someone post a long time ago British versions of the Shonen Jump-braded Dragonball editions. They were identical with the exception of not having the Viz logo and had a different one in its place.

Hm, that's interesting. I've never encountered them myself, and I've lived in both the UK and New Zealand.

Yeah, the logo was from a company called Gollancz Manga. Some of my Yu-Gi-Oh! Manga are published by them.

Madman has their own release of the Fullmetal Alchemist manga that is different from Viz. Each volume has the neat little jacket cover and the sound effects are left in Japanese. Thats probably the only one I can think of.

I know the Fullmetal Alchemist Manga that you're talking about, I have a few volumes of it. It wasn't released by Madman, but by Chuang Yi, a Chinese company. Says it right on the spine.
