Re: How do you pronounce Daizenshuu?
Exactly the way it's written. Just like everything else in Japanese.Ultimate Saiyan Trunks wrote:How do you pronounce Daizenshuu, I got no clue & am curious to know the answer.
"Dai" = like the English word "die" (like I'll kill you)
"Zen" = fairly obvious...
"Shuu" = like the English word "shoe," but with a longer "ooo" sound

And just in case you have a follow-up question down the road, in terms of our site name, both the "E" and the "X" are pronounced as two, separate letters.

Re: How do you pronounce Daizenshuu?
If you wanna get technical, the sound of the vowel itself (disregarding the length for the moment) is somewhere between what Mike said, and the ü seen in so many German words (like "über"). Of course, it varies in different parts of Japan (many in the Tohoku region are supposedly unable to differentiate between the vowels "i" and "u" in other dialects, for example), but for the most part, that's what I hear.VegettoEX wrote:"Shuu" = like the English word "shoe," but with a longer "ooo" sound
(Except, of course, if the "u" falls between two unvoiced consonants, in which case it is usually just a whispered shadow if its usual self.)
Confused yet?

Well, yeah.. that's correct. The English word "shoe" (as in what you wear on your feet) was the closest thing I could think of at the time, and it's fairly accuratePedro The Hutt wrote:I say it as "die-zen-shuu" as opposed to "shoe" >.>;; As in "Fuu".

Confused. You mean like "shoemoo" without the M?VegettoEX wrote: "Shuu" = like the English word "shoe," but with a longer "ooo" sound
Or just "shooooooooe?"

We really need someplace that can explain Japanese phonology, in plain English, better than we can.Dayspring wrote:Confused. You mean like "shoemoo" without the M?VegettoEX wrote: "Shuu" = like the English word "shoe," but with a longer "ooo" sound![]()

In the meantime, please enjoy this linguistic jargon-y explanation:

I was wondering if Dai-zen-shyuu was also correct, because on some Japanese sites, I've seen it romanized as Daizenshyu...
