Z still has it's fair share amount of "good" filler. Pigero!AgitoZ wrote:On terribly paced I meant the filler. The staring, the powering up, basically most of the stereotypes.Perfect wrote: Care to elaborate on what was terribly paced?
Although the points are valid that it had some terrible pacing/filler it wasn't as bad as some other shows and the manga doesn't have this issue. But when it had to it was a faithful adaptation, until it was too close to the manga. Although the original Dragon Ball is pretty good at pacing. (it isn't perfect though)

Toriyama picked Nozawa to play Kid Gokū in Dragon Ball. Toei made the decision (which I disagree with) for her to keep playing Gokū as a man, in Dragon Ball Z.Perfect wrote: Masako Nozawa was hand picked by Toriyama, so I don't know where "Toei missed the point".
Re: Stereotyping
Some things I remember:
"Goku is always resurrected by the Dragonballs"
But it happens only once.
In second time he was resurrected by Rou Kaioushin.
"All enemies are defeated by a Genki Dama"
But only one enemy was defeated by a Genki Dama on canonical story.
And 2 enemies if we count GT.
"There's hundreds of plot holes on Toriyama's manga"
But the majority of the real plot holes exists only on fillers.
Canonical story have only a few real "plot holes". And most of them are questionable.

Well, I'm talking about the manga. The start of the current arc from my perspective is with the "kidnapping" of the useless b!@#$ Inoue and going to Heuco Mundo. When did it start? 2007?!B wrote:If you wish to get technical, and speak for only the anime adaptations, Bleach does a fairly good job of keeping it's filler self-contained, to the point where you can literally skip episodes and just watch canon material. It will be soon enough, besides a good portion of Kai is already there for people to get a idea of how different it's presented than Z.Deep Thought wrote: Telling others to watch Dragon Ball Kai is invalid because, two years ago, Dragon Ball Kai didn't exist. Also, all the episodes haven't been formatted, yet.

Re: Stereotyping
I think the whole "everybody is strong for no reason and everybody can fly for no reason!" stereotype of the series is kinda annoying. I'm pretty sure this stems from Z being more or less the end all be all show over in English speaking countries. Granted Goku did start out abnormally strong but he was kind of the fish out of water in that regard. Yamcha,Tenshinhan and Kuririn were tough but they weren't yet flying around at mind blowing speeds with the power to move planets. You see a slow development of everyone's strength as the series progresses so it doesn't seem so bizarre when by time the Piccolo Diamao saga rolls around the villain can level an entire city with his KI. Same with the whole flying thing, I hear this less but I still hear it often enough for it to be annoying. The other thing that annoys me is "every saga plays out the same" which frankly I'm not sure where people are getting that from at all. I usually don't personally validate these people if I don't know them.

Re: Stereotyping
Actually, they made that decision back in Dragon Ball, when adult Goku showed up at the 23rd Tenkaichi-Budokai. And if you were a kid watching the show weekly in Japan, I'm sure you would've thought it was okay.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Toriyama picked Nozawa to play Kid Gokū in Dragon Ball. Re: Stereotyping
Toryiama does say in his Daizenshuu 3 interview, taken around the time Z end its run, that "now it’s impossible to separate Goku from Nozawa-san". He also noted in Daizenshuu 5 that he was amazed with Nozawa's ability to give different voices to Goku, Gohan, and Goten. So it doesn't seem like he had any regrets about her voicing adult Goku. Also in Daizenshuu 5, Toriyama says that he didn't originally plan on Nozawa voicing Gohan or Goten, but picked her after she auditioned for the parts.
Kanzenshuu: Is that place still around?

Re: Stereotyping
People who say that DBZGT sucks because all they do is scream at each other, and power up all time when they are fighting. Most people who say that only seen the anime and did not read the Manga

I don't think the issue is whether or not it's impossible...just how you feel about it actually being so, for the main character of DB.

I suppose so. Just remember, it's a Japanese children's show. Children in Japan apparently like Masako Nozawa. (Hell, I'm sure the adults do, too. Only English-speaking fans hate Nozawa!)Savage68 wrote:I don't think the issue is whether or not it's impossible...just how you feel about it actually being so, for the main character of DB.

Re: Stereotyping
I'm gonna have to go with what Mike said way back yonder on Page 1. The stereotyping doesn't bother me so much because...well, for the most part, there's some truth with it. Also...you gotta look at who's saying these things.

Re: Stereotyping
Age doesn't make you suddenly sound like James Earl Jones.
Besides, Saiyans retain their youth for much longer than humans do. Therefore, it makes sense that Goku still looks and sounds 20 when he's 40. In any case, it's a work of fiction! Obviously not everything is going to be 100% realistic in the show about golden monkey martial artists!
(Besides, I've always thought that Nozawa's voice is pretty manly for an old lady. Especially her voices for Burdock and Tullece. Hell, if I didn't know any better, I'd believe that Tullece was played by a high-pitched man!)
