I'm totally jealous right now. :P
Jealous of the fact that he has a girlfriend or of the fact that she watches Dragon Ball with him? I'm jealous of the former.

On topic: fuck I hate my family. :P

I'm joking, I don't hate them. They don't really give a shit whether I like cartoons or not. They mind their own businesses.

My Mom used to be aware of it when it was airing on TV. All she had to comment about was Goku's tail and if he's born from a monkey.

My Dad is not aware of what I watch, but he does know that I like manga. Of course, he thinks of them as comics and he bought me some comics of Archie and Jughead before.

One my two sisters used to like Gohan, but not much into it.

My brother used to be a fan as much as I was, but he even stopped watching anime.

I have several cousins who used to play the Budokai games and enjoyed some of the show and the movies. They came to see DBE as well. But I'm not sure how big they are as fans in general.

What do my folks think of Dragon Ball? Well, my family are generally indifferent towards it. They accept my love of the series and never really question me for it. Sometimes they actually buy me Dragon Ball presents, in particular my sister. A couple of years ago, she bought me the first volume of the original Dragon Ball and then, more recently, bought me a Dragon Ball T-shirt (which mimicked the box art of Tenkaichi Budokai 2). I remember she also once played Budokai 2 with me and liked it.
My brother once played Shin Budokai and liked it (and his favourite character to play as was Vegeta), but now, whenever I ask him, "Do you remember playing that DBZ game I had on PSP?", he always denies it, as if he's embarrassed to be playing a Dragon Ball game.

I have some friends who are fans of Dragon Ball, and who like the series as much as I do. Some of my non-fan friends accept that I like it (one of them took an interest in the manga for a while), while others just conform to the stereotypes of "Oh, it's just a kids' show with muscly blond guys fighting, you shouldn't be watching it", and some of my other friends think that it's hentai because I made the mistake of bringing in the first volume of Dragon Ball to school (and for some of them, it's their first impression of the original Dragon Ball).

Also, there is one girl at my school (not really a friend as such, more of an acquaintance), and she likes manga and anime, but doesn't like Dragon Ball. The only thing she likes about the series is Goku, because she thinks he looks cool or something.

My Mum thinks it is, and refers to it as Pokemon.

My dad was into it before me. (He frequently insists that Naruto has better fights nowadays. T.T)
My sister would watch it with us during the toonami run.
One of the cousins that lives with us (11 now) has been into it since... ur... birth? :P.

And whether or not I actually have friends is a subject for debate. :(

My parents know I like it, and they're fine with it since I like to draw comics myself; so having the entire Dragonball manga in my bookshelf is just as normal as all the Donald Duck magazines lying around :P

My brother used to watch it when it was on TV, sometimes plays the games. I think he also follows the DB Multiverse fancomic. He's far less of a fan than I am, though.

Back when it was airing, me and my cousin were two addicted 11 year olds. He's the one who introduced me to the series in the first place, like "Hey, this show is cool, give it a try." We would always draw the characters(which I still do to this day, and it's awesome to see my improvement over the years). Today, he's got too much of a life to give a crap about anything Dragonball, though I'm sure he would still enjoy seeing the occasional episode if given the chance. :P

As for friends; I only have one true friend, and I met him on the internet 5 years ago - on the GameFAQs message board for the Game Boy Color game DBZ Legendary Super Warriors! So yeah, common interests for the win.

My future girlfriend will obviously love DBZ. I hope.
Usually goes by "Kevtrev" elsewhere online.
Draws comics that may or may not have been blatantly inspired by Akira Toriyama's manga.

My dad thinks it's absolutely batshit stupid. I can understand that though. He never watched it from the beginning. I jump around so he'll sit in with me on an episode of the 22nd Budokai then a Boo arc episode and then movie 5. He never really saw the progression in story. He does like Vegeta though. He's...a LOT like Vegeta. Me and him have a very Trunks and Vegeta relationship in general...but maybe that's TMI for this thread.

My mom loves Head Cha La. She doesn't watch the show but she can recognize Head Cha La immediately just because of how much I've played that song in one form or another. Other then that she has no opinion on it.

They both think it's silly a 19 year old is watching a kids cartoon but that's kinda expected.

None of my girlfriends liked Dragon Ball. My most recent girlfriend was interested in manga so she was willing to give volume 1 of Dragon Ball a shot. Her only comment was Kid Goku was cute...I didn't think she'd care much for the dick and poop jokes though. I kinda wish I would have started her off at the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai. Too late now. In return I had to read Twilight so I guess we both had to suffer.

My parents and brothers don't really have an opinion on it. My sister and her boyfriend read through my books a couple of months ago though. She loved it, pretty much sharing most of my opinions on the story (though maybe not obsessing as much as I sometimes do :P). He had sort of a love/hate relationship. He wanted to read it because he remembered vaguely liking Z back when it originally aired, but he found a lot of Toriyama's storytelling wasn't to his taste, though he liked some of the ideas. He wasn't big on the comedy of early Dragon Ball, though he thought Boo was a riot.

My best friend hasn't really been exposed to it since the dub's original airing, but his opinion from what he's seen/heard/remembered of it is that Toriyama has a lot of natural talent that just doesn't quite come through sometimes due to his laziness. He's receptive enough to the comics that I may be able to convince him to read them properly sometime though.

My ex thought my love of the show was cute, but I never really got around to getting her to try any of it. We're still on friendly terms, but I think I missed the boat on getting her interested in Dragon Ball.

My parents do not really know what it is, I'm assuming. My mom bought me one volume when I asked for it several years ago, and I rented the second and third Budokai several years back as well so they probably would recognize the name but nothing beyond that.

I'd rather not know their view of it if they recognized it, they'd probably lump it together with Pokemon. Pokemon is the only anime they know of. lol.

My sister doesn't know what it is and my grandma thinks all anime is "weird", so that's that.

My friends recognize it, and one of them has actually been probably a bigger fan of the series than me. He bought Dragon Ball volumes a few years back. So yeah, none of my friends would judge me. It's my obsession with One Piece that bothers them more. lol

Reading all these posts reminds me a pair of my cousins who were very into DB (even more than me at the time). They had a boatload of figures. Don't recall when they stopped being fans (though they are still into the video game scene). Should have snatched those figures while I had the chance.

My mum is absolutely fine with me loving Dragon Ball and anime in general (she actually used to buy me a LOT of manga when I was growing up, which I'm very appreciative of). She knows what anime can be like (you know, sexual themes and all that) but she trusts me to be mature over the things that I watch.

My dad knows that I like anime and manga and occasinally likes to buy me stuff that's to do with anime (how to draw anime/manga type books).

My brother used to like anime, but know see's it as a nerdy trend and stays away from it (he tried to through out everything that was anime/ manga related that he owned, (and it was a LOT of stuff) such as Naruto, Shaman King and Dragon Ball manga, posters, stuff that I gave him, but I got them all back and all of it is hiding in my wardrobe, and he doesn't know :D ).

My friends also love anime (probably not to the extent that I do though e.g. they just watch the series, whilst I spend every penny that I have buying the manga, the anime, the books, the guides, figurines... Yeah I think you get what I mean).

I'm very lucky to have parents and friends that understand or also share my passion for anime. :)

Most of my friends have some idea what Dragon Ball is. Quite a few have read a bit of it. However, my parents are much different. My dad hates it simply because it's anime. He's in love with American animation and won't take anything Japanese as an answer. My sister and I forced him to sit down and watch a few films by Studio Ghibli. And he didn't enjoy them :? My mom has no idea what the series is about. I was reading it in my bedroom the other day and she came in and asked, "Is that about a dragon's... you know..." She apparently has the mindset that everything that's Japanese is porn. My mom doesn't hate anime, but seems to be of the mindset that everyone who watches it is crazy because we've met a few people at the local bookstores where I usually pick up manga that are really into it. My other relatives, except for my cousin who watched the series when it aired on Toonami, know pretty much nothing about it except for the fact that there are blonde people in it whose hair sticks up like a bunch of bananas.

Considering that my dad is in his mid-70's and my mother her 60's I highly doubt either of them really know what it is. :P
However...
I remember one night back when the first Cooler movie came out I was sitting upstairs watching it when my dad woke up and came up the hall to get a drink. He poked his head into the living room and looked at the TV. This was right around the time Cooler transformed. My dad then walked into the living room and planted himself onto the couch and watched the rest of the movie with me.
He didn't say much, but, I'd say something must have caught his fancy about it!
