My girlfriend isn't that interested in Dragonball, although I have got her to read other Shoujo manga instead. She thinks it's cute that I am interested in "guy-stuff". :P

My parents don't even know what Dragonball is. They have probably seen the manga books but ignored them.
I have shown them a comedic Dragonball dub that me and my brother made in Farsi, and I guess that's the most they have seen of Dragonball.
They thought it was really funny.

My brother is just as a great fan as I am, so I have no problems with him (I watch movies and episodes with him occasionally).

My sisters thought that it's childish to keep watching a children's show when you are an adult, but they stopped hassling me after I showed a couple of gory clips from the show. :P

My friends don't mind. Several of them have watched a couple of episodes, a few have watched it all. No one of them dislikes it, so they don't say anything bad, although we don't discuss it often.

My family is christian.

And my dad finds DBZ totally AWESOME.
He loved it so much he was like "You know Archangel Michael fights demons just like Goku."

:D :D :D

My brother loves it, my sister likes it and my mother doesn't know it well enough to give an opinion.

My mom probably watched most of the Saiyan and Freeza arcs back in 1999/2000 because I used to ask her to record it for me because I didn't always make it home from school in time. She was fairly indifferent towards it at the time, but she still remembers some of the character and attack names.

My dad is most likely oblivious to its existence.

All the members of my family are fairly laid back and bizarre, so I wouldn't expect any of them to have any kind of negative reaction to their 25 year old son/brother watching "cartoons". They would probably just think it's funny.

My friends all know what it is but aren't interested in watching it, and I don't push it on them so they don't really think much of it either.

Man thank lord you don't have overly religious parents.

I've seen people like that before, so I see who DB could be a target (I mean some think Harry Potter is the devil). I remember once someone came over from our church and asked my Mom about HP, she just responded "He's not into HP." (Completely going over her head).

My mum knows I like anime/manga and I wanna get her to watch FMA: Brotherhood cos we watched Ashes to Ashes and like some other Sci-fi comedy stuff together

Although whenever I'm reading a manga when I'm with my dad, he will usually ask, 'Is that the one with One Piece the Pirate?'

My little sister will usually say 'Is that that nerdy japanese thing?'

Funniest thing was when I was looking at games that were coming out online with my cousin, and we saw Raging Blast, and my aunt says 'Isn't that that baby show?' and I facepalmed

My family (as well as myself) are Christians as well, and we don't mind watching things like Harry Potter either. I remember a person from my church not liking Harry Potter because of the "witchcraft" or something like that in it. I still respect him though, because he was a nice guy overall and wasn't too overly biased on things like that.

I figure that Dragon Ball is only fictional, so it shouldn't hinder my belief anyway.

I really hate to derail this thread, but the Bible did state that God is against spiritism and witchcraft. I don't watch any of the movies that involves spiritism. When it comes to DragonBall, I tend to skip the spiritism scenes, especially early Majin Buu arc.

Aside from this, I think the DragonBall series is really great. I love the humors in it. I have few friends that love this series, and my younger brother too, although he said that he likes Naruto and other anime more than DragonBall. They are more familiar with DBZ than DB and GT. One of my friends said he won't watch any movies that arent involved with SSJ transformations. I really can't blame them, since they are usually showy and more awe than base form.

But for me, I love GT more than DB and Z because of animation and story-wise. I still love DragonBall for its humor and Z for great story, but GT beats them by a very small margin. That's just my opinion. I admit GT should have executed much better, but it's still great. I remember in one thread that a lot of us like GT than we realized. I won't be surprised that in 100 years the DragonBall series will still be one of the most popular anime, and continue to go strong. Heck there is still good chance that they will make a new series for it. They even made a newly animated of "Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans" as well as Jump Special 2 years ago. Right now, my love for DragonBall hasn't dimished a bit yet...

Cool topic, I actually read every single post. Right, my turn!

Let's see, I'm 25 now and been watching Dragon Ball since I was a little kid, it started here in Portugal a long time ago, back then it was the hype, EVERYONE was watching it, literally.

I remember my parents just thought of it as another show, my sister watched it and liked Chaozu (this was Dragon Ball era) but really didn't get into it much.

My brother always lived far away from me, but I remember his ex wife mentioning that he couldn't get enough of it. I don't think he's still into it, although he's 40 and still a major gamer. My other sister doesn't really care.

The hype died down eventually and I kept it to myself, but the reruns never stopped, to this day they were still going and people were still watching (I think it stopped recently), but not as much, I carried on buying stuff, my mom bought me some collections (they're both collectors themselves, my parents), she bought me the whole tankobon collection in Portuguese. Gee, now that I think about it... what a super mom.

My dad wasn't really into cartoons at all, only stuff like Popey or Mickey or Goofy. That is until my mom made us sit and watch Mononoke Hime, he was totally impressed by it.

My hype kept down, I found a few friends who shared it, but all of a sudden I found this forum and it went up like crazy. I'm the biggest fan in my circle of friends now, they sometimes come for me for "enlightenment", although sometimes just to make fun of my obsession.

The shit hit the fan when I bought my first collection of gashapons by mistake, I wanted phone straps. Too late, I got hooked up and haven't stopped buying then since. This was a problem with my parents for a while, because they felt I was throwing money away, but I think they eventually accepted it, being collectors themselves they understood that THIS was my collection. Although they are totally right.

So the only thing I don't feel right about is that I don't have any close friends to REALLY talk about Dragon Ball, my closest, bestest friends are into it but not as much as me, so I still have to explain stuff to them, which get's kinda awkward for me because I start feeling like a major geek. One of them deviated to Naruto, One Piece, Bleach and all that. Bastard!

My ex didn't like Dragon Ball at all, and got quite bored when I got carried away, I was just explaining to her why I'm so fascinated with Recoome, she was not amused. She does like Japan stuff, she's majorly into Evangelion, she's got a ton of Rei figures every freaking where.

I think that's about it.

Edit: Oh, I forgot to mention I'm pretty much the only one who watches it in Japanese, I'm definitely the only one who watched the WHOLE series in Japanese, and I'm watching it again.

I heard recently that there was one in portuguese but sadly I never saw any traces of it anywhere ever.

My story is kind of like yours... I watched the very first Dragon Ball episode to air in Portugal (I remember it well actually), and from that point on I watched almost every single episode. And I was soon hooked, like everybody else at the time. And I never stopped being a fan.

My parents are aware of it. They don`t particularly like it or dislike it, its just not their thing. They don`t comment on it much either.

Nowadays, I`m more a manga fan than an anime fan.

Let's see...

My parents really don't care because they know that I've been a fan of this show since the Toonami days. I'm 21 now, and considering that I've been watching it since 1997, they've become accustomed to it. My mom knew that the Dragon Box 4 was coming out soon, and I dunno how she found out, but she told me about it and I was like "Yeah, I need to make some money to get it."

Other family, they know it, but my older cousin ridicules me about liking stuff like that. Considering that he has an obsession with medieval stuff, space stuff like Star Trek, and collects (collected) garden gnomes... I don't think he's one to talk. But yeah, I can hold my own and they don't bother me with it.

Friends? Most of my close-nit friends and best friends watch anime, and I'm the resident go to guy for Dragon Ball related info (which thanks to you guys here at Daizex and Kanzentai, made me more knowledgeable) and discussions. I even converted people into the show, so I did my part to bring more people into the Dragon Ball world.

I think Tom Dubois of "The Boondocks" said it best for me when FUNimation announced the release of the domestic Dragonbox, after buying all of the Season Sets: "MOTHERFUCK!!! SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT, PRICKS, SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIIIIIIIT!"

My dad watched Z with me as a kid, and when I pop it in on my DVD player he still remembers certain episodes, attacks, and stuff. That's pretty much it for my family.

With my friends though, I have about 3 people I watch it with. One is fairly interested in it, since he is a lover of most anime, but he likes DB more than Z or GT. Thinks the story and charm of DB is more interesting. Another just used to watch it on TV and likes to watch it when he's over. And the last guy LOVES Dragonball, all of it. He even likes GT..He just doesn't like to think much about the show though, just good ol' fashion fighting and interesting characters.

My siblings and friends have all caught and enjoyed their fair share of random Japanese episodes through my viewing sessions when I'm at home. The girlfriend is seeing it exclusively in Japanese; that's the rule. She's taking it in college anyway, so it's not actually beneficial (sooort of) too.

Where I live, a lot of adults prefer to watch foreign films with subtitles rather then dubbed. I'm pretty sure they'd understand me watching it in Japanese.
