I agree, despite having 6 of the 9 remastered sets of Z, one of GT, and a few of the movies, I sold those for cash for my Dragon Boxes. And I'm also getting the Z Kai sets. I watch my Dragon Boxes in Japanese, and my Z Kai sets in English, so I get the best of both worlds.

It was directed at everyone, because I didn't like the direction this thread appeared to be heading. Remember that one-liners and image replies are both frowned upon.ShadowDude112 wrote:Sorry, I was just joking around. Did I go too far?

Re: DragonBall Z Remastered vs DragonBall Kai
They're not too expensive. Just buy them from Rightstuf next time they have a FUNimation sale. I mean, why waste money on buying an inferior product just because it's cheaper to finish at the moment. Think about it... If you buy the "remastered" sets, you may end up wanting to buy the vastly superior Dragon Box Z sets eventually, and if you do it THEN, you'll only be replacing even more sets than you'd be doing right now. And trust me, the Dragon Box Z sets are worth it (unless having the Faulconer score is a MUST).Cootie wrote:But those can be pretty expensive and I would have to buy episodes I already have of "Z" all over again to make it to where I have every episode. If I were to buy the Dragon Boxes where my Orange Bricks left off I would be missing episodes due to the episodes not fitting if that makes sense.
So, it is more of a question of should I finish buying Z or just buy Kai and kiss the filler goodbye.
If you still refuse to get the Dragon Box Z sets (and wish to view the show in English "the way it was [actually] meant to be seen"), then get Kai.

Re: DragonBall Z Remastered vs DragonBall Kai

I know how everyone hates the remastered sets, but honestly I can't watch DBZ (the way I remember it when I watched it on Toonami, and honestly thats the only way I want to as of now) without the Dub and Music. Now I know I'll get shot for that but, I can't stand the original Japanese Music. I Love Kai's new music, but thats because to me it sounds a million times better. I have no clue why I have such a hatred for the old music, even though I love Japanese anime/tv/movie music/scores 99% of the time ever since I was a little kid.
So the only way I watch it nowadays it through the Orange Bricks... or DB Kai. Maybe in 10 years or so I'll pick up some Dragon Box's or whatever the next re-re-release it.

Re: DragonBall Z Remastered vs DragonBall Kai
Wow, have you ever thoroughly given the Japanese Score a shot though? Heck, I'd even imagine if only slightly
If you watched DB first even dubbed, and then watched Z dubbed with the Japanese Score, you'd still get the feeling its the same show, regardless of Z's dubbed dialogue.
Though, that does make me ask, because I did grow up watching the Toonami Version with the Faulconer track, did you ever watch the Original Dragon Ball? (Note: I don't like the Dub Score much anymore, its way too overbearing and even gets quite annoying).

Dragon Boxes are a remaster from the Original airing giving it the ultimate remaster at the time and still is (Imo). You knew my point, it's useless to bring that up.

No. The film prints are different! The original airings' film prints is a copy of the film prints that used for the Dragon Boxes.

Both scores are dated, but more-so the original's. At least there was depth, epicness, and an overall better quality with the dub music. I'd rather listen to BGM that effectively represents what's going on, and raises the stakes like the show did.

Re: DragonBall Z Remastered vs DragonBall Kai
For the record, orchestral music is timeless. People still listen to it now after centuries have passed. People will hear the dub score not 10 years from now (or even 10 years ago for most of us on this site) and ask "what the hell is this?"Ultimate_DB_Fan wrote:Elite49 wrote: Both scores are dated, but more-so the original's. Also, due to the lack of any silence in the dub with the replacement score, the music never "raised the stakes" or built up any tension. It was just there... all the time... and it was very annoying. Plus it sounded like something any one of us could create on GarageBand if we had the time and were getting paid to do it... just sayin'. I know everything about what I've said has been said before, but that's my two cents. Everyone has different tastes and I won't knock you personally if you like the dub score.
But to say that it sounds more dated than synthesized guitars... well...
