Re: DragonBall Z Kai TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai) Edits!
Say what you will about Nicktoons, but the edits on that station are tasteful and do not take anything away from the story. The CW edits are sooooo overboard that it's unclear what is happening and it detracts from the story. First of all, the scene where Vegeta is shown eating the bugman he just killed is supposed to send a message. It is supposed to show the viewer just how heartless and savage he is. He's eating what appears to be a formerly sentient creature. But that message is lost when you replace it with a blue mushroom. Then the whole halo thing... Don't even get me started. I wonder if they've considered the fact that SOMEBODY is dead in this show almost 100% of the time. The team responsible for edits have a lot of work ahead of them.
I've always been a strong supporter of a TV broadcast, and pusher of the "home video's where it's at dawg" philosophy. I still am, but I'm really questioning how children can even understand what is happening with all these edits. The precedent so far has basically changed the meaning of the whole show. It's preposterous.

Well, I'm not gonna go as crazy as I did with the Nicktoons version but, I'll definitely be posting pictures and stuff like that each week on here. I seem to be watching DBZ Kai on Toonzai just for the edits. It's kinda funny to see what they'll edit each week. I don't know why I find it so interesting. It amuses me.JulieYBM wrote:Oh Lord, Joe...please, do full comparisons. I need the laugh. :p

I can already hear the discussions kids these days will be having at school about when Radditz will finally wake up!

Nope, Saban never edited the Halos.

-Sigh-
Guess the thing we all need to look at is:
There is no edited home release.
Heck, there's the uncut Orange Brick sets still in stores, ala Wal-Mart that I bet FUNi will end up continue to make money on due to Kai.
When was the last time we've had edited dvd's anyway if you guys don't mind me asking?

Didn't the Japanese edit Kai? Or was that for just the tv version as well?

Uncut releases are nice for those that can afford them. Semi-Edited TV Broadcast is nice for those who pay to have Nicktoons Network.
But for many younger people and fans who don't have access to these means will have no other (legal) ways to watch Kai. So kids who grow up with Kai now will grow up to say the same things we did: "Why did they edit this", and etc.
So yes, while having an uncut version is awesome, it's still a pain that CW feels the need to act like we're in the late 80's.
@LeprikanGT
Kai was edited in Japan on the TV and Home releases. Same as FUNi's Home release.

The Japanese version of Kai is censored in comparison to the original Z series, both in the TV version and home release. All the edits present in the Japanese TV broadcast of Kai are also present in the home release.
Funi's home release of Kai doesn't have any more edits than the Japanese home release. However, the American TV broadcast of Kai on Nick has edits not present in Funi's home release, while the Toonzai broadcast has even more edits not present in either the home release or Nick broadcast.

That's what I hate the VERY most about Kai: even on a home release, things are watered down and edited. I was expecting 100% uncut for the home release, just like we got with Z. It's not like Z is out of print or impossible to find though. If you must have it truly uncut, there's always the Dragon Boxes.
Sort-of off topic, but I think Kai as a whole was just another excuse for Shueisha to get Dragonball Z back on TV again and rake in some cash. The edits were done to meet TV standards, and after that they didn't even take the time to make the home release uncut, which just seems lazy.

Alright, now I am really confused. Because I said Toei the other day and it edited it to Shueisha..
So Toei did Kai..Shueisha did DBZ?

Toei did both. Shueisha is the one that puts out Shonen Jump, in which the manga runs.Budogenkai wrote:Herms wrote:I think you mean Toei.Budogenkai wrote:Sort-of off topic, but I think Kai as a whole was just another excuse for Shueisha to get Dragonball Z back on TV again and rake in some cash.

I love these edits so much. I hope the 4kids version of DBZ Kai comes to Australia, so I can see them for myself.
