Gogeta's finishing move (Movie 12)

Post by Nazi Cola » Sun Sep 12, 2010 8:47 pm

What's the name of Gogeta's finishing move in Movie 12? I know I saw it somewhere here, but now I somehow can't seem to find it. Didn't it have the word "Soul" or "Cleanser" in it or something?

I've seen it named in the Budokai series as 'Soul Punisher', and in the Sparking series as 'Stardust Breaker'.

It wasn't the Genkidama?

I'd assume not, we've seen the Genki Dama three times in the series, and each one needed to be bigger to defeat a stronger enemy. Janenba was stronger than Kid Buu, and Gogeta's attack fit in the palm of his hand compared to Goku's Super Genki Dama. Other than Stardust Breaker and Soul Punisher in the games, a lot of the fans I've seen like to call it the "Rainbow Spirit Bomb" since it is similar in nature to the Genki Dama and it glows multiple colors. Personally though, I've named it the Reiki Dama...but that's a different story entirely. lol

I just figured the size differed because it wasn't attacking anything real; just actual evil (which was why the Oni returned).

I've heard that in some video game it is in fact called the "Gogeta Genki-Dama".

I never thought of that. It doesn't appear to be the EXACT same thing, but it could very well be some Gogeta-exclusive variation of the Spirit Bomb, or even just working on the same principles.

Personal opinion time now, I suppose.

Reiki Dama
I figure they work on the same principle, though obviously one doesn't need to be pure of heart to use the technique, as Goku had fused with Vegeta and became a Super Saiyan before using it. Instead of gathering genki/life energy, the user gathers reiki, or soul/spirit type energy from sources in the afterlife. The attack doesn't obliterate evil as the Genki Dama does, but instead purges evil from a being in a similar method to the soul cleansing device used by Enma Daio in hell. The technique isn't usable outside of the afterlife IMO, but if used on an evil person who is alive, or dead but with a body, it expels the evil from them and would leave them a pure being.

Fan wank, but I like the explanation for something with next to no details.

So after looking around a bit, it seems that the Japanese version of Ultimate Battle 22 was the game that called Gogeta's attack a Genki-Dama. But apparently it wasn't called this in the French version of the game.

I don't know what it was called, but I don't remember it being called that in the English version either. Though I don't really remember, anyone able to confirm? I don't have my UB22 anymore.

It really seemed like a Genki-Dama to me, but its called "Soul Punisher" in the games.

Remember that King Kai's original Genki Dama was small and thrown like a projectile.

I don't see how he could gather the energy for a Genki Dama that fast and have it be, that small...

Really. Kid Buu was 100% evil-ness too, and was even weaker than Janemba was. Yet it took the entire Earth's genki (which tired the majority of the population out) to put an end to the fight. The Genki Dama's sized is based on it's power.
