I don`t care about the dub track. I just want to understand the original (aka subs in a language that I understand).

The lack of such, to me, automatically makes the japanese dragon boxes not very "watchable". They would be cool as a collector`s item, without ever being opened, but the price difference compared to the american ones is insane. The few extras that the american ones don`t have (yet) are not worth the price difference for any "average hardcore" fan (and those extras may still come with the last american box).

As for the 7 volumes instead of 2 and their size difference, they look good either way, so its just a matter of taste, really.

I hate the JP version [as I don't speak Japanese and I can't STAND hearing those shriilly voices] but if I had the chance to buy all 5 boxes w/ all extras; I'd jump at the chance.

Then what are you doing here if you hate the original version?

Furthermore, all those extra's (now here's the catch), are in shrilly Japanese!

beacause I love the original FOOTAGE...but in a language I can understand. I want to be able to own every single bit on animation of DBZ and "so far" the US Dboxes aren't delivering on that.

So you'd spend hundreds of dollars to watch maybe 30-40 minutes of extras on mute? :|

You're a very odd dude.

And all of those extras.

-Goku figure
-Piccolo figure
-The radar
-The scouters
-The.....Budokai set thing.

The best thing the US had EVER gotten with a DBZ release of any sort were the Goku and vegeta figures from the UUC releases.

Was the OVA released with the Boxes?

Now see, those make more sense. They're not exactly footage though, and you want the footage so bad, yet you had to ask whether or not the OVA thingy was there? Yes it's there. I guess that makes it more than 40 minutes of extras, but that depends on your view of what's an extra. Some people count that as a special-type thing.

It's also in Japanese, by the way. >_>

I don't like the original version, should I be here? Just because someone doesn't prefer the original version it doesn't mean they don't have a right to be here.

It's still original footage that, with the newly drawn special, I don't thin we would ever see in the US dubber or any of that.

Being a big a fan of the show as I am, I just want the chance to own ALL of everything, and since the JP boxes are out of print I dont see it ever happening again.

even if Funi just added in all the US extras like commercials and tv spots and all that from the Toonami days and all of that footage, it would be SOMETHING.

Actually, no they don't have everything. They fine folks at Kanzentai did a feature on this.

They don't contain EVERYTHING but they contain worlds more than the US boxes.

Oh, I actually meant this thread. ehheh...

I know there's plenty of people on Daizex who don't care for the JP version.

If you have the money to own everything, then more power to you man. I just find it a tad odd that you'd be willing to put that much money into something that you don't prefer.

As for Funimation putting any extras, I'd say we'll have to hold our complaints until all 7 boxes are out.

I'm not a fan of the JP track [neither the music not Va's] but I would buy up all 5 boxes in a second if I could get all 5 at once +extras.

It was the biggest release of the show and I would love to own it as a collector of the show.

This entire thread is ridiculous.

Part of the reason the JP Dragon Boxes were so expensive is because of the general difference in media prices. DVDs are far more expensive in Japan. A 1:1 American equivalent would not cost $1000 for half of DBZ. If FUNimation even tried to charge that much, they'd be lucky to get a dozen sales. I'd be amazed if most retailers would even carry it in their physical stores. Casuals wouldn't touch it; not when they could get the (much smaller) Season 5 of the Simpsons for only $20.

If you think the commercials and toys are worth the extra $1500-2000, then good for you. But some people are happy with the US Dragon Boxes, because it allows them to simply watch the show in gorgeous quality in the original 4:3, with the next episode previews and original credits, and without Gen Fukunaga's feces all over the animation like some OTHER American releases.

As many have pointed out, we still don't even know for sure that the US boxes won't have any extras. There are three more boxes left, and at least one of them is going to have some extra space.

I'm buying the US boxes too since I'm a collector of the show and since it is closer to the original footage....but in all honesty if you showed me the brick set footage and then the next week showed me the Dbox footage, I'm pretty sure I couldn't tell the difference; but just the knowing that I own it is worth it for me. The Dboxes+Kai are my 4th and 5th version of the show that I own and each bring something different to the table; I'd just really love knowing I own 'the source of it all'.

And I would looooove for the US boxes to have extras but I would bet everything that I own that things like the OVA won't make the cut.

Being worth it to the consumer doesn't mean it's not overpriced. They're not one in the same. A person can think $10,000 is worth it for the series if they have the disposable income for it. That's their business. But that doesn't mean the price is not grossly inflated from what it should be.

Of course, but if the person truly feels it's worth it to them, my logic is, it's their money not mine XD;

I'm sure part of that huge price tag was because they were taking orders and THEN making them. If they were mass producing them I am sure the prices would have dropped, especially if places outside of Japan was selling them. Japanese DVD prices ARE pretty ridiculous [comparing to US prices.]

Yeah, I'm not saying it's specific to Dragon Ball. I was all into the Tenchi and Yu Yu Hakusho Blu-rays until I damn near choked to death when I saw the prices. For some reason Japan is gouge city when it comes to home video formats. I find it amazing they manage to sell anything over there. You'd think they'd rather price things reasonably and sell them in large numbers. Much more profitable that way.
