Re: Daizenshuu EX DB wiki...again
Yeeeess. I love me some TV Tropes. In fact, I went and created their Dragon Ball GT page just last week. And I float about the place adding stuff everywhere. Can't wait to have an awesome new DB wiki to fill with stuff.

Re: Daizenshuu EX DB wiki...again
I'm working on one right now called the Dragon Universe Wiki. It's a wiki from the now gone MFG Forums that used to be called the Dragon Team Wiki. I'm currently the only person editing it right now, and have been the the only one for the past few months. I don't think it'll ever be finished at this rate. It's intended to encompass everything Toriyama, not only Dragon Ball. This also means that I'm trying to keep this stuff as canon and original as possible. Unfortunately, my knowledge about Dragon Ball is vast, but not unlimited.
I wipe it off the tile, the light is brighter this time, everything is 3D blasphemy.
My eyes are red and gold, the hair is standing straight up, this is not the way I picture me.
I can't control my shakes, how the hell did I get here? Something about this, so very wrong.
I have to laugh out loud, I wish I didn't like this. Is it a dream or a memory?

I despise TV Tropes.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

What type of Wiki should we use? I think using a Wikispace might work since they are pretty easy to use if you ask me.

I'm fairly sure it'll be a wiki markup integrated within the site, like the forums... unless that's what you're talking about.

I'd dislike the people who rapidly spout terminology non-stop. That's not really the fault of TV Tropes.Kunzait_83 wrote: *snip*

Re: Daizenshuu EX DB wiki...again
Quick question, and it may have already been answered. Will there be user pages, like on Bulbapedia?
Re: Daizenshuu EX DB wiki...again
Since the wiki will be connected to the forum's memberlist, would there be a point in user pages?

I'd like to point out that I will absolutely not be satisfied by this wiki unless Appule has a biography as long as Goku's.

Yeah, well, we want fact, and no speculation. Saying he's awesome over and over again won't cut it.
Oh, you think the Grand Tour is your ally, you merely stepped into the Grand Tour. I was born in it, moulded by it. I didn’t see the Super until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but blinding!
Re: Daizenshuu EX DB wiki...again
Well..
I don't know if this post can be usefull.
But I'll post here my point of view of MEDIAWIKI script, as soon as my page site is based on it.
I was very very newbie in create homepages when started to think on it 3 years ago.
Never created even a simple HTML page.
I think I'm still newbie. But the mediawiki with some extensions made the things not so difficult to me.
My site is not an open wiki. Only trustable people can edit it.
Because of that, it takes a lot of time to grow.
It' important to make clear some rules like translation basis and how to write character names and words. Exactly as you are talking about.
But there's a lot of things that we cant't predict before create the wiki itself.
I don't know if you already created something like that, but it's essencial to make tests in a private wiki to see the results
And the "soul" of a wiki are the templates.
A good template make things extremely easy and fast for anyone.
Here's some examples of my wiki. EDIT: It's a brazillian portuguese site
http://www.hoipoi.org/Itens (itens page)
http://www.hoipoi.org/Apple (character page)
http://www.hoipoi.org/Personagens:Lista_din%C3%A2mica (list of all named characters in manga)
http://www.hoipoi.org/Poderes_De_Luta:Lista (battle power list table)
Just one thing..
The root of the site "http://www.hoipoi.org/" is not a wiki. Its a wordpress page.
Conclusion..
I'm sure you have here much more trustable people who knows a lot of things of Dragonball to help than I have.
I'm sure it will be amazing.
I hope you can do it as soon as possible.

Well, Mike's sort-of-still on vacation after a tedious summer, so I have to assume that's why the delay has been so long.Taku128 wrote:So... is this still happening? July ended over two months ago.

He went on vacation a week ago, but this was supposed to start two months ago. I mostly just made that post to get a status update, because this topic hasn't been posted in for about as long.JulieYBM wrote:Well, Mike's sort-of-still on vacation after a tedious summer, so I have to assume that's why the delay has been so long.Taku128 wrote:So... is this still happening? Re: Daizenshuu EX DB wiki...again
I've been thinking about the name, and I feel like we need something much more authoritative and accessible than "The Daizenshuu EX Wiki" or "The Dragon Radar." Both are cute, but they require a basic knowledge of the series (in-universe and meta) to fully understand the meaning. As is, lets say a random internet user with vague knowledge of the show types "Vegeta" into Google. The second result is "The Dragon Ball Wiki." If you had no idea how horrible "The Dragon Ball Wiki" really is, and just took it at name value, next to "The Dragon Radar" which would you go to first?
I think something along the lines of "The Unofficial Dragon Ball Wiki" or "Encyclopedia Dragon Ball" might be something that in name alone, can stand up to the naturally-saught-after basic "Dragon Ball Wiki."
Not that we need to compete with those idiots in any form or fashion. We just need real fact-checked, consistent articles to be more accessible.

Re: Daizenshuu EX DB wiki...again
I dunno, I think having a catchy name and adding "The Unofficial Dragon Ball wiki" or something of the sorts into the page title might work. Just look at, say, eBay. If someone who's been living under a rock for a few years wants to buy things on the internet and uses Google to find a good place, he'll probably find eBay, or more specifically, "eBay - New & used electronics..." and so on because that's in the title tag.

While I like the idea in theory, I don't think "The Unofficial Dragon Ball Wiki" is the way to go. That just makes it sound derivative of and less than the actual Dragon Ball Wiki. It implies that the Dragon Ball Wiki is official or comprehensive or any other positive adjective. And I don't think that's the route it needs to go. I agree with ThunderPX that just putting some kind of subtitle would be all that's necessary.
Do you follow the most comprehensive and entertaining Dragon Ball analysis series on YouTube? If you do, you're smart and awesome and fairly attractive. If not, see what all the fuss is about without even having to leave Kanzenshuu:

Re: Daizenshuu EX DB wiki...again
Maybe the subtitle could be something like "Your No.1 Dragon Ball Resource." Really cheesy, yeah, but it does the job, and considering our competition, it's probably true as well!

In that case, I think Innagadadavida suggestion of "Encyclopedia Dragon Ball" or something like that would be good. "Encyclopedia" certainly sounds better than wiki or wikia.Gaffer Tape wrote:While I like the idea in theory, I don't think "The Unofficial Dragon Ball Wiki" is the way to go.
