I know. I was just explaining that Salagir may not be aware of it, because for him, 'parrain' is not overly-religious. He is who makes the original translation right? I understand your point. I am just pointing the issue probably never even crossed Salagir mind. The reviser, of course, may not have paid much attention either, since the correct translation is 'godfather'.

Anyway, as Dayspring pointed, there is no much to do. 'Godfather' is the only sensible translation so the word don't loss a bit of it meaning.
Dayspring wrote:This is the point I'm making with parrain. It's not being used in a religious connotation, but he is literally saying "godfather." If you feel "godfather" is inherently religious regardless of what I say, then so is parrain. Why? Because it is the French word for "godfather." It's like saying "Jesus Christ" vs Jésus Christe; it's the exact same thing, just in another language.
It is a bit different because it don't include the word 'god' (or any similar). It is not he is saying 'dieupère'. I know the meaning of 'parrain' and 'godfather' is the same, but the simple fact 'parrain' don't include 'god' in it makes it less obviously religious then 'godfather'. It may be 'inherently' religious, but that don't mean a modern French speaker will know that. However, a modern English speaker can tell 'godfather' is because he can analyse the word without more then basic knowledge (since any English speaker knows the meaning of 'god' and 'father').

Eh Vegeta is a way better father than Goku. It's Goku who needs parental counselling lol.

In Goku's defense, he's never beaten the living snot out of his son so he could help a monster reach full power. :P

Not exactly. "Padrinho" looks closer to a variation of "Padre" (Priest) than "Pai" (Father), imo.
Padrinho in Portuguese only got one type of meaning, that of a Godfather or caretaker.

Interesting how everybody always seems to focus on what they think is wrong instead of what its right, like how cool the scenario looks (mostly on the first panel).

Probably because you can't really say much about it. The only thing worth noting is that skeletal Videl.

I rest my case... The scenario looks awesome and pretty interesting in Pof`s style, but the only thing worth noting is that skeletal Videl.

Hmm, ok.

Well, yeah. The scenario doesn't look that amazing to me. It's good, but nothing to shout about. I guess part of it is just the fact that I don't like this art.

Translation notes for bottom panels:

Vegetto: A quiet little run/jog for today... With a guest, since Videl insisted on coming as well. I kinda have to wonder why, though...

Videl: I need a bit of exercise! I think I can keep up with their level, considering their age, no?

Note: Videl's first sentence is a response to Vegetto's muttering "question." The second is a semi-sarcastic, semi-cocky/indignant and gets just a bit lost in translation. It translates directly as "I think I can keep up with their level at their age, no?" Grammatically, that makes sense, but it doesn't give off the "I'm strong enough to at least do that, aren't I?" kind of attitude.

Not really. "Dieupère" doesn't make sense in French, namely because "godfather" doesn't make sense in English as a word creation (ex: "Johnson" = "Son of John," so "godfather" should mean "Father of god." It doesn't because English is FUBAR when it comes to grammatical rule exceptions). If someone were to say "dieupère" in French, people would think they meant to say "Dieu, le Père" and had a case of verbal diarrhea. Meanwhile, "parrain" is like saying "saint" or "angel" or "pope." It doesn't have "god" in it, sure, but you know it has religious connotations.

Rocketman's undying worship for Vegetto is already well known though.
