That's because evil British accents rock. Had Rickman or Tim Curry voiced Frieza, think of how awesome that would've been.Piccolo Daimao wrote:Yeah, like the main villain in Die Hard, portrayed by...Alan Rickman, was it?Innagadadavida wrote:It's kind of an American English thing. In my experience, British English is the go-to accent when one wants to depict gentleman, old fashion, or snobbery. Two of which apply to Freeza, I believe. Though the accent in question isn't predominant. There is a hint of it in Aryes's Freeza, if only in wording.

I think it would sound somewhat like LK's Freeza in Abridged. But deeper.

Ayres' first form Freeza doesn't sound British at all to me, and Young's Freeza sounds like a grandma. So I don't know what you're talking about there. I hope this doesn't sound xenophobic, but I really don't want Ayres' Freeza to take on a British accent.Kendamu wrote:He's always had a bit of that to his voice in the dub, but it's just more apparent now that his voice is lower.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Is it me, or did Freeza sound British in that ad?Kienzan88gt wrote: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lb_8b_ClSfU

I honestly don't see a problem with any of the performances in the commercial, to me it sounded like everyone was bringing their A-game.

Finally someone who agrees with me. I can't wait to see this saga dubbed right.Hoppey wrote:I honestly don't see a problem with any of the performances in the commercial, to me it sounded like everyone was bringing their A-game.

I definitely agree as well. There's some good work being done in Kai, and the trailer didn't go out of it's way to disappoint me.DB_Fan1991 wrote:Finally someone who agrees with me. This saga, above all others, was one I wanted to see get the Kai treatment. A lot of attachment to that era.

Not to mention it's the dreaded "Season 3," often considered the lowest point of the original DBZ dub.Mewzard wrote:I definitely agree as well. A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Re: New Freeza Talkback
It's not an overwhelming accent. There's just a slight difference in how things are pronounced that it feels like there's the remains of an accent there that isn't American.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote: Ayres' first form Freeza doesn't sound British at all to me, and Young's Freeza sounds like a grandma. Besides, if you watched the commercial you already know that he doesn't take on a deep British accent. Also, if you've watched so far then you already know what I'm talking about from my previous post.

I have. I agree that it's not "deep", but it's definately a British accent.Kendamu wrote: Besides, if you watched the commercial you already know that he doesn't take on a deep British accent.
Well, I obviously don't. Please explain. I've seen numerous clips of Ayers' first form Freeza on YouTube, and I don't hear a British accent at all.Kendamu wrote: Also, if you've watched so far then you already know what I'm talking about from my previous post.

That's not really a British accent. It's just more "proper" if anything. A pseudo-British accent, really.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:I have. There's a difference between British and just fully pronouncing words.
Re: New Freeza Talkback
Yeah, I've heard Chris Ayres speak naturally before, which isn't far off from his Freeza. It's not a British accent, it's just how his voice happens to sound like.KaiserNeko wrote:That's not really a British accent. It's just more "proper" if anything. Re: New Freeza Talkback
Chris Ayres isn't British. He just has experience doing Shakespeare characters.
That's one of the reasons why they had to replace Linda Young, because the writer actually wrote the scripts with Ayres and his Shakespearean experience in mind.

Re: New Freeza Talkback
No, the writer wrote Freeza with the original Japanese version in mind. He didn't know the character would be recast in Funi's dub. Considering the circumstances, no one did. Sabat mentioned to the writer that he was considering casting Chris Ayres as Freeza and the writer noted Ayres' background in Shakespear would be helpful for the role.
If we take into account what Sabat and Schemmel said, Linda actually voiced for Freeza in Funimation's Kai dub on Namek up to an extent, needless to say the scripts had already started to be written for Freeza up to that point.

This Freeza plus the correct diolauge is magic. Just hearing those words in English bring joy to my ears.

Yes, I believe I remember Ayres mentioning that in that Kai panel.

Re: New Freeza Talkback
At the end of the day the main reason for the recast was that Funi realized finally that young was always wrong for the part, end of story.

All I know is that Ayres as Freeza is reason enough for me to believe that Chris Sabat is a genius.

I wouldn't go that far. Sean Schemmel is still Goku and Kaio.ohaimynameiserik wrote:All I know is that Ayres as Freeza is reason enough for me to believe that Chris Sabat is a genius.
Ayres was a good move, though.
