Official Spanish OP and ED for Kai (ANOTHER BAD UPDATE)
Re: The Official Spanish Opening and Ending Themes for Kai
English translation:
We always go with luck
Let's go, we'll find it
We'll find paradise, and we have to free our spirit!
I'll challenge the mysteries that will come
There'll be danger, I will fight without fear
My strength will be love, I will live that way
Endless courage, if you're with me, nobody will beat me
We'll fight for love and glory
We'll live to tell the story
Nothing's impossible, nobody will die, we'll stay standing!
We always go with luck
Let's go, with pride
Towards the wind, we only have to go!
Let's go, don't stop
With luck in our side
Find paradise, we have to go for freedom
Dragon Soul!
---
Don't surrender, reach the end
To live like this is [something]; today I'll triumph
Looking towards the infinite sky
I never thought this could happen
Hand in hand, we can fly
I know where we'll get
Fly further than the clouds, you'll see the secret
Our planet needs us, let's save it for real!
Always live like a Kame Hame Ha
Give it all, don't ever give up
We'll fight together; I know I can believe in you
Don't give up, reach the end
Give it all, don't ever give up
It's easier if you believe in love, and I'll believe in you
Yeah, this is very clearly based on the FUNi version.

Re: The Official Spanish Opening and Ending Themes for Kai
Hmmmm....interesting. This makes me wonder if maybe FUNimation might be "pulling a 4Kids" with the international dubs. Allow me to explain. As some of you know, whenever 4Kids acquires an anime, they tend to grab not only the domestic distribution rights, but also international distribution rights outside of Asia. Thus, all the foreign-language dubs of any anime that 4Kids has are based on the 4Kids version, meaning that while the dialogue is dubbed into the corresponding languages of the various countries, the footage they use is the pre-edited 4Kids footage, which includes all edits they have made to the visuals, music, and sound effects. The scripts for those dubs are also based on the revised English scripts of the 4Kids dubs, as well.Puto wrote:English translation:

Yeah, this is very clearly based on the FUNi version.
Even before 4Kids, it wouldn't be unheard of. Most of the European dubs for DBZ, for example, were based on the pre-edited footage provided to them by France (the French dub was the first European dub of DBZ and, I think, the first foreign-language adaptation of DBZ ever). Likewise, a lot of the European dubs based their scripts on the revised French scripts.
So that makes me wonder...does that mean FUNimation is doing that with Dragon Ball Kai? Is the Mexican dub actually going to be a Mexican adaptation of a US adaptation? Again, nothing confirmed, but the similarity in the lyrics, combined with the fact that Irwin Dayaan mentioned FUNimation as being involved somehow...makes me wonder.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

well... there will always be the DB/DBZ/GT dubs that were dubbed based on the original versions way before FUNI even heard of DBZ....

Re: The Official Spanish Opening and Ending Themes for Kai
Really, TheBlackPaladin? I knew that all the international dubs of Pokémon outside of Asia are based on the US version, but other 4Kids anime too? Of course, I don't have much familiarity with any other 4Kids anime properties other than a bit of knowledge about the earlier parts of Yu-Gi-Oh! and the fact they turned the greatest shonen since Dragon Ball into a horrible mess. As far as I'm aware though, none of the European One Piece dubs were ever based on 4Kids?
Anyway, as far Kai goes, while a direct translation from the original is always preferable, at least Funimation's (uncut) dub is a good base to be working from as far as being an adaptation of an adaptation goes?

Re: Official Spanish Opening and Ending Themes for Kai (UPDATE)
Well in Chile when we got Yu-Gi-Oh! on Nick(IIRC) we had the "Its time to DU-DU-DUEL!". I don't remember any 4kids anime adaptations, but if that's anyhting to go on TheBlackPaladin is right.SaiyamanMS wrote:Really, TheBlackPaladin? By the way 4Kids is not making the edits, I believe it's the CW.

Re: The Official Spanish Opening and Ending Themes for Kai
That's true actually, "One Piece" is the rare exception. Not surprising considering that 4Kids got it as part of a package deal with other animes and didn't really want it to begin with. My guess is that since they didn't want it to begin with, they didn't bother buying the international distribution rights. That's just a guess, of course.SaiyamanMS wrote:Really, TheBlackPaladin? So I guess they don't do that with *every* anime they have, but they do buy the international distribution rights for the vast majority of their properties. Some of the few exceptions are the French dub of "Sonic X" (who made their adaptation directly from Japan), and the German dub of "Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's" from episode 65 and onward. It's not clear in either of these cases how they managed to escape using the 4Kids version considering that 4Kids bought the international distribution rights. So yes, 4Kids is globally hated, not just locally.
As far as basing it on the FUNimation adaptation...yes, FUNimation has a good dub this time around, and I'm enjoying it immensely, but it's still definitely not mistake-free. Plus considering they would be translating a translation of a translation...they're inherently going to lose a little bit of accuracy in their scripts. From what I gather, there was a little bit of concern that this might be the case, though. The web site that I posted a link to in the first post, ANMTV, actually ran an article on how the first couple episodes of Kai were censored on Nicktoons. They even covered the now-famous "Blue Popo" edit:
http://www.anmtvla.com/2010/09/racismo- ... va-de.html
The reason they're covering this, I believe, has a lot to do with the fear that they might end up getting our edited version rather than the original material. Interestingly enough, there's also this article (http://www.anmtvla.com/2010/09/dragon-b ... so-en.html), which, after being translated in Google Translate, has one very interesting sentence:
"At first it was said that everything was the fault of FUNimation, but apparently that information is wrong as we have been contacted and we have rectified that they alone are the providers of the material (in this case, Kai episodes dubbed in English )..."
Would someone tell me if this is an accurate translation or just Google Translate being too literal? Because if it isn't a translation error, it's looking more and more like the Spanish dub is actually going to be a Spanish dub of an English dub.

Both songs are great, and are way better than the English dubs IMO.
Can't wait to hear the Spanish dub.

It's a decent translation, might change the order, not make it as literal or add some synonyms but it's pretty accurate.TheBlackPaladin wrote: The reason they're covering this, I believe, has a lot to do with the fear that they might end up getting our edited version rather than the original material. I think they are just worried of the possibility of only getting the CW edit. I don't think FUNi is douchey enough to only give them the edited version, I can guess they gave them the the Uncut dub and translated everything from that, maybe even the animation credits. Probably since it's easier than translating from Japanese.
Although why would they be afraid Mr. "Robin Williams" Popo?

Yeah. I didn't hear the word "vida" (one of the few Spanish words I know), so I assumed they didn't say it. My bad. Bleh, the Dragon Soul vocals are nail-bitingly off key in many spots.
YBCB less so.

Re: Official Spanish OP and ED for Kai (Plus HUGE News, Updated)
Dragon Soul sounds like a really bad fan dub. YBCB sounds ok.
As for the translation, if we get Funi's, I wonder which footage we're going to get, the Nicktoons censored version, or the uncut version. I'm hoping for the uncut version, because I really don't want a translation of a translation combined with censorship of censorship

Well, I don't know, but my guess is that you will get the uncut version. For two reasons:Rod wrote:Dragon Soul sounds like a really bad fan dub. YBCB sounds ok.

1) In both of the edited versions (Nicktoons and the CW4Kids), full versions of the songs are never shown. Only in the uncut version on DVD and Blu-Ray do we hear the complete, 1:30 versions of the songs. In both of the censored airings, the songs are shortened down to about a minute. The Spanish dub does seem to have dubbed both of the songs in their entirety.
2) There was no "Z" in the "Dragon Ball Kai" title screen. Leading me to believe that the footage for this particular song was based on the footage used for the first uncut episode of DBK on DVD and Blu-Ray...which, strangely enough, did not add in a "Z," but kept the original title.

Re: Official Spanish OP and ED for Kai (Plus HUGE News, Updated)
Still, my point is that that's material that was only on the uncut DVDs/Blu-Rays. So, I'm willing to bet that even if the translation may be from the English dub, it will be from the uncut English dub. Considering that it will be based on an uncut dub, and one that's pretty well-translated to begin with, this isn't a catastrophe...just more of a bummer. A catastrophe would be if it was like the 4Kids situation where they were getting edited footage with changed music and horrifically altered scripts. Still, they are definitely going to lose some of the accuracy of the translation since it's still a translation of a translation. Not to mention that it will inherently be a step down from their Z dub since that dub was translated directly from the Japanese source and many of the original actors are not returning.Puto wrote:The creditless opening on the DVDs and Blu-rays also has the original logo.TheBlackPaladin wrote: 2) There was no "Z" in the "Dragon Ball Kai" title screen. This dub just is coming to total frustration to all of us fans.... I mean, only the non important characters will get to keep their original voices.... and this sounds horrible these people don't know how to sing, as I live in Ecuador I will get this dub but man.... I don't know how to take this....
Did you guys know Edson matus will be voicing Goku? Edson matus is fry's voice from futurama in mexican dub.

It'd be nice if they were to translate the show from FUNi's *subtitles* instead of their dub scripts.
