Re: That one interview
I kinda wish I was in the online fandom way back in the day. It seems like there was a lot of cool rumors and websites and it would have been neat to talk about the Z dub as it aired. Little articles like the interview or old season 3 blog posts always trigger some longing to be around back then.

First off...whoops, that should be "Matsuyama". I thought his name was "Matsumoto", went and looked it up to check, saw that it was "Matsuyama", and apparently wrote "Matsumoto" anyway...Brilliant...Titan wrote:Do you know anything else about that guy named Matsumoto?
Anyway, via Japanese Wikipedia, it seems his full name is Takashi Matsuyama (born 1957). Besides working as Toriyama's assistant, he had a work of his own called "Motor Panic" in 1992, and one called "The Beloved American House Which I Built Myself" in 1999. He's also known as an expert in making custom figurines, and was involved with the Tamiya Figure Contest from 1979 to 1987, causing him to be parodied as the "Matsuyama Brothers" in a Kochi-Kame chapter revolving around figure customization.
It also seems that Toriyama did have another assistant, named Hisashi Tanaka, who worked with him for the first half of Dr. Slump. Apparently when Toriyama said in the SEG that he's always had one assistant, he meant simply over the course of DragonBall. Either that or he completely forgot about poor Tanaka.

@Savage68 & Dayspring
You bring up some valid points, more valid than mine actually, so for now I'll retract my claim

But... But he said he worked as an artist for the Kanzenban from 1995 to 1998! That sounds legitimate, right? Right??Herms wrote:...So the author of that website claims to have worked for Toriyama, huh? ...Right...
The fake "Japanese" comments at the bottom of this one are pretty funny, too...
... but punctuation keeps breaking us apart... :((Art is, my mistress.
