Vegeta's voice.
I'm too lazy to go into details, or specific episodes right now at this time, but Chris' voice really suits Vegeta in majority of moments. His voice feels so powerful, stresses his anger, much much better than Ryo's voice in the Japanese Dub. All ignoring the fact, I've only begun to watching the sub online somewhere...

If you're wondering what people see in the Horikawa's Vegeta, look for the pride and cool-under-pressure tones. Those are what define Vegeta to Japanese version fans as opposed to the anger and power.PrinceVegeta_16 wrote:Vegeta's voice.

Well, "brick" refers to all the season sets. Not many people have a problem with the Blue Bricks and Green Bricks but we still call them that.Rocketman wrote:Calling something a 'brick' is usually an insult, like saying the space shuttle is a 'brick with wings'.Metalwario64 wrote:A-are you seriously being defensive about people referring to the season sets as bricks? "Brick" is not an insult.

If not, then what exactly was your point behind that last statement?
I'm more concerned with the fact that his post made it sound like DBZ wasn't any good until Funimation got their hands on it and dubbed it. I mean, if Funimation were single-handedly responsible for making DBZ into some kind of masterpiece, how do you explain it's popularity all over the world? The original version IS Dragon Ball...it may not be your preferred version, but it's the original piece, which is where the characters got their personalities and are portrayed as they are intended. I think the fact that DBZ was altered so much when it was first brought here and STILL managed to be so popular says more about the series itself rather than the company who dubbed it.

What was this topic about, again?
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

If it makes anyone feel better, I'll start referring to the Dragon Boxes as "the yellow bricks".

But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

haha Touché. I'm not sure he even intended for his post to come off that way, but it did. I'm just saying there are many dubs all over the world that were extremely popular as well, so I don't think Funi can take all the credit for giving the characters "personalities".
As for a moment I enjoyed the dub specifically...I liked after Cell's defeat the way everyone reminisced about Goku at Kami's. Also, when Goku returned for the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai the music used in the dub fit well with the scene.

If you feel the need to, we could. I call them "the yellow ones" to casual fans who I talk to about DBZ.penguintruth wrote:If it makes anyone feel better, I'll start referring to the Dragon Boxes as "the yellow bricks".
Me: Oh, so you like DBZ?
Guy: Yeah! I've been going to Best Buy and picking up the Seasons!
Me: Cool! Are you getting the orange ones, the yellow ones, or the white ones that have no filler?
Guy: I'm getting the orange ones.
Me: That's cool. I'm getting the yellow ones. They come with these really cool hardcover booklets that I like and more episodes per set. It's like a "collector's edition" for ultra-nerds like me.
Guy: Neat! I wanna see it sometime! Anywho, what was that thing about "no filler" you just said?
Me: [start explaining Kai, when it airs, and that I'm also collecting it]
Casual fans are so fun to talk to. They don't care enough to get offended over what version I buy but they're still interested in knowing all their options! They've really put me in my place in the grand scheme of enjoying Dragonball.

I do agree with this. I'm enthusiastic about interacting with the people here, always, but there's something to be said for talking with casual fans. It's generally a different experience.

He might be from Australia or New Zealand, where the Season Sets are packaged as "fatpacks", not "digi-packs" (what people refer to as "bricks").Metalwario64 wrote:What?Ultimate_DB_Fan wrote:I already got my DBZ available via the season sets, or what some of the locals here like to refer to as the "bricks".
I can't exactly tell, but are you seriously being defensive about people referring to the season sets as bricks? That's what people often refer to that type of packaging as...

Is this all that he said? Because I didn't read a single bit of "defensive" in that statement. All I got is "what you guys call bricks since I've not heard that before."Ultimate_DB_Fan wrote:I already got my DBZ available via the season sets, or what some of the locals here like to refer to as the "bricks".
I think you guys are jumping to conclusions. Ridiculously so, in fact.

It was only Metalwario who thought he has being defensive. The term "brick" is used far more on Daizex than other forums.TonyTheTiger wrote:Is this all that he said? Ah, that's possible.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:He might be from Australia or New Zealand, where the Season Sets are packaged as "fatpacks", not "digi-packs" (what people refer to as "bricks").
Also, I wasn't trying to outright say he was, for a fact, being defensive (though I probably could have worded it better), but I was curious about that little quip he had at the end, which I assumed was a stab at people who refer to them as "bricks". That's why I added that statement at the end asking for clarification.

Re: Moments FUNimation's English Dub Did Better?
Well, having not actually seen the entirety of the japanese dub (really only a few episodes, but I'm starting to collect the Dragon Boxes) my favourite moments in the dub are... Well, any time that Mr. Satan is on screen and talking. Especially the two episodes where he convinces Buu to stop killing. Probably some of the best voice acting in the original DBZ dub. Good 'ol Chris Rager.
Re: Moments FUNimation's English Dub Did Better?
There are times where the dub score shines (although it is inconsistent and has its flaws)
- Any scene "Ginyu Transformation" plays ( What comes to mind is Cell's Death, When Goku "kills" Freeza, Adult Gohan's SSJ2 transformation at the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament, when Imperfect Cell "finishes" Piccolo off, and (of course) when Ginyu switches bodies with Goku)
- Vegeta's Final Flash
- Babidi's voice
- Pikkon's Theme
- Goku's SSJ3 Transformation
- SSJ Vegeta Transformation in front of Android 19.

I always liked Mr. Satan in the dub. He sounds just like an English version of Daisuke Gori. Chris Rager really had the bumbling idiot thing down. He would've been perfect in the dub, if only it wasn't for that "H-word" thing...Flamingwindjutsu wrote:Well, having not actually seen the entirety of the japanese dub (really only a few episodes, but I'm starting to collect the Dragon Boxes) my favourite moments in the dub are...
