Naizu (for my naming conventions) is indeed Neiz or Neizu from Coola's henchmen in Movie 5.

He's one of the Coola Armored Squard: a big, lanky, reddish brown frog-like guy who can tuck his head up into his body like a turtle. He has this electricity attack, but Piccolo is immune to it, and kills him. Here's his D7 bio.Amigo Ten wrote:Still don't know who that is.

Nice tip, Jake. He looks a lot like Bautta (Burta) and Gulurdo (Ghurd) as well.Herms wrote:He's one of the Coola Armored Squard: a big, lanky, reddish brown frog-like guy who can tuck his head up into his body like a turtle. Why the "sz"? It's unnecessary and just looks weird. Use "Jeese" or "Jeece" because they just look better.SilverPlaqueVII wrote: Jhiszu

I'd assume he got it from Viz's "Reacoom", and I would assume they added it in to try and work some kind of recognisable pun on "cream" into the name, since it's pretty far removed from it in terms of English pronunciation.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:His romanized name is "Rikuumu", so I don't know where you're getting that "a" from. That's all well and good, but you can't just go adding letters that have completely sounds.Amigo Ten wrote: I'd assume he got it from Viz's "Reacoom", and I would assume they added it in to try and work some kind of recognisable pun on "cream" into the name, since it's pretty far removed from it in terms of English pronunciation.

Anyway, you are aware that "cream" isn't pronounced "kree-am", yes? It doesn't have to change anything.

I assume you mean "Frieza". I argue that it's a legitimate transliteration because there is a long "i" sound in Freeza's Japanese name that can be adapted as "ei" and in almost every case, "ie" is pronounced as "ee".Amigo Ten wrote: Aren't you one of the people who always argues that "Freeza" is a legitimate transliteration...?![]()
Good point, but a lot of confusion can come out of how you pronounce "Reacoom". For example, I mispronounced it.Amigo Ten wrote: Anyway, you are aware that "cream" isn't pronounced "kree-am", yes? It doesn't have to change anything
I meant "completely different sounds", referring to "e" and "a".Herms wrote:I'm not sure what you mean (if only because you messed up the end of that sentence).Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:That's all well and good, but you can't just go adding letters that have completely sounds.

I did too before I understood it. But I really like the "Reacoom" spelling, so I'll defend it beyond reason if I have to.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Good point, but a lot of confusion can come out of how you pronounce "Reacoom". Depending on the word, they can both make the same "uh" sound. The and about. I suppose it depends on the accent though.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:I meant "completely different sounds", referring to "e" and "a".

Re: Name Pun Round-up
Just an observation.Randosel Town
In keeping with the school theme for some of the character/place names during Gohan’s stint as a high school student, this comes directly from ランドセル/randoseru, “backpack” or “satchel”, which derives from the German raenzel. Accordingly, in Viz the place is called “Backpack Town”.
Source Spelling: ランドセル/randoseru
Name Spelling: same
It may be a veeeeery little detail, but in japanese dictionary (kokugo jiten) is said that "randoseru" comes from Netherlands word ransel.

Re: Name Pun Round-up
You necroposted in a seven month old thread for that?
Re: Name Pun Round-up
This post is part of a lot of Herm's works.
He made an incredible job.
I think a thread like this will never be old.
I'm sure he spent a lot of time doing this.
And the thread is a reference for me.
He always warn and show details.
So, I think it's fair to help. Even with little details.
By the way, the index of herm's threads is fixed on top of the discussion forum.
So, I don't think this is "just an old thread".
That's why I posted here.
