Bizarre. Sadly, there's absolutely no information given concerning who was polled or how the poll was held, so it's hard to put into some sort of perspective. I take it Toriyama's presence at least hints towards people giving one of the few names they could think of, though.

Based on the fact that he did character designs for Iria Zeiram: The Animation alone, I'll agree with that one.

From what I can tell from the comments on this and other "articles" I looked at, the majority of commenters on that site seem to be your average modern, American anime nerd who watch all the newest "moe" series and have no other knowledge of Toriyama than "he made that deebeezee shit I watched on Cartoon Network when I was 8".

Some other "article" listing poll results for most influential series had page up and page down of angry comments on why people would vote for a dumb sports series like Slam Dunk. These aren't exactly people who know anything about the industry.

I'm surprised Satoshi Urushihara wasn't on the list. His entire shtick is about cute girls and the perversions surrounding them. Though I guess there's a difference between "cute" and "sexually appealing."

I can sort of see the complaints about his position. Toriyama isn't specifically known for cute girls like so many other artists. Though I'd put him higher than a few of the others on the list, myself, so...yeah.

I can understand Toriyama being on the list, too. A lot of his early stuff was 'cute', beyond just his females.

I will say this, at least Toriyama’s women look like, well, women, and not just fetish objects. They’re stylized of course, but their proportions aren’t skewed outside of realistic bounds, and Toriyama goes through the effort of making them look like they actually have muscles, bones, and organs under their skin (I remember in the joint interview between Oda and Toriyama in some One Piece book, Oda noted how in the scene where Ran-Fan strips down to her undies, Toriyama drew very detailed shoulder blades on her, or something like that). He doesn’t just slap the largest boobs he can draw on top of the thinnest waist he can draw and call it a day, unlike some manga artists.

Oda was also obsessed with Ran-Fan's armpits, when she's holding her arm up... Funny guy.

Takeshi Obata also draws good women. They're pretty realistic, and you never get the sense that he's drawing them just for the sake of fanservice. Besides maybe Misa from Death Note, but even she didn't have gigantic F-cup boobs.

It's a ranking for the "cutest girls artists," not "sexiest girls artists." Though, I do agree with you completely; I was expecting him to be in the top 3 at least. The fact that Oda is there but Oh!Great isn't is very strange.
