If I got Nicktoons on TV, I'd probably watch it some time and see what I think. As it stands, Nicktoons isn't included in my cable package, and my only connection with it is the Kai page whenever a new episode comes out.
It's not an "American anime" it's an American cartoon through and through. It just has anime influence in the way of action and art-style. You won't see any Japanese/anime tropes. Oh and also the animation is better than most Japanese series.

EDIT: Also the link to the cover art is fail. Anyone have another link?

As much as it pains me to say it, you're probably right. Avatar manages to tell a wonderful shonen-esque story while having miles more depth and complexity than Dragon Ball ever could. It's an awesome show.

If ever there was proof that a remake did improvements...

It's really jarring seeing these two versions of a scene back to back.

I'm happy, really happy as a fan at how far we've come over the years in terms of dubbing. We've got a work out there worth being proud of, bit by bit burying the old work. Now, all they need to do is redub Z in Dragon Box form (along with the original, GT, the Movies, and the specials), and we're set for life.

I highly doubt it.

A paycheck is a paycheck, but if I was a voice actor and was told "OK, now that we're done with Kai, you're gonna redub all 300 episodes of Z with those exact same lines but also more repetition and throwaway filler talk and repetition" ...no, thanks.

"Z" doesn't need a redub, Dragon Ball and GT do!
Also, love the artwork!

I have the dragon box's for Z and I prefer it in Japanese anyway, but give some love to the original!

I want a new dub of the whole shabang. Beginning of DB to the newest special, and everything in between.

But, that's just one fan's dream.

Still, for now, Kai is something I'm really enjoying.

I don't dare to watch GT's dub but Dragon Ball's dub is much better than Z. Z was in much more need of a redub.

For the most part GT's dub was way more accurate than Z's. Yeah, it had problems with the script on some episodes. But, it's not bad if you watch English with the Japanese BGM (in my opinion, of course). Hell, up until those boxsets I would exclusively watch it in Japanese for the most part for the music and voices. I personally loved the Dub voices too, the broadcast BGM though kept me away from watching it in English. Having the singles I still have at this point feels redundant.

The redubbing would be more for consistency.

And I just got Kai's third DVD set today...ah, good to see these episodes again, I'm still not tired of them yet.

I still doubt that they will redub Dragon Ball Z. I don't see that happening.

If George Lucas has taught me anything...it's that if someone can find a way to milk a franchise, they will milk it to the point of malnutrition.

And do we have a window on when the last of the Freeza arc episodes will come out?

2 questions:

1: Is it true that the Kai blu-rays are only region 1 ? That would suck monkeyballs, as I live in europe and my playstation 3 doesn's play region 1 :)
2: Is there any idea that the DB series also will be.. euh.. "kai-ed" ? :)

Yes, the kai blu-ray boxes are Region A which covers North America, and Japan and a few other countries. Most of Europe is Region B.

All NTSC or most that use NTSC will be region A.

Funny, I could swear there was no such thing as NTSC/PAL on blu-rays...
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
I could have sworn that Funi's Dragon Ball Z Kai Blu-Rays are both regions A and B? I don't have any Blu-Rays, so I can't confirm, but I'm 99.3% sure that's right.
