Kirbopher wrote:Eric's acting I think is of the same quality as always, that being good. The voice is what's irritating, but I'm assuming it's because that's just how it's "developed" over time and through all of the recent video games. At the same time though, it's not THAT different than what it used to be. I think we're noticing it because of how completely different the character sounds when he FIRST shows up, so hearing him with his "usual" voice at that time is a little off-putting. The only one I felt kinda "meh" about was King Cold. Jason Douglas is good, but the character just felt very...stale? I dunno. He's in like an episode and a half, so it's not a big deal really.

Also to those wondering, Kent is still Gero, Todd is doing #19, Chuck is still #17 (though his screams and fight reactions may be "stunt-casted") and Jeremy is still #16, but with a different voice. No word on what's going on with #18 yet.
If they're going with the Raging Blast 2 casting, Colleen Clinkenbeard will likely be playing #18, unless they got back Meredith McCoy or decided to cast someone else such as Stephanie Young. Then again, Mike McFarland was Dodoria for Raging Blast 1, yet was recast with John Swassey for Kai.

Watching the new episode right now, and I feel the need to say something I never thought I would say in my entire life.

Schemmel's Kaioh, at least as of the first 4 minutes of the episode...is...

*swallows hard*

Not bad.

The solemn tone and lines he was given seemed to override the horrific marble-mouthed voice, for once...real shame this will probably be the only time in which this is true, but I was pleasantly surprised...well, shocked, really. I give Schemmel's Kaioh probably the most flack of any voice at this point in the series, so it's only fair that I also give praise where praise is do. I still do not, nor will I ever, approve of this horrible caricature voice, and it sounds absolutely awful in even the most serious moments (like the past several episodes), but just once, it actually came off bearable. I felt I had to come here and say that to remind myself that this was real and actually happening, and I had not, in fact, lost my mind and gone completely insane.

Hearing "as if" from Vegeta made me groan. And adding "My dad's a hero! My dad's a hero!" to Gohan when his mouth isn't even moving is just annoying.

Burgmeier's Tenshinhan seemed a little less irritated-sounding than usual, which was good. I really enjoy Maxey Whitehead's Dende.

It's too bad we had to put up with more of Cynthia Cranz's Chi-Chi. Ugh.

Vegeta saying as if is hilarious. Gohan is happy, and him saying "My dad is a hero" is fine in my book. Cranz's Chi-Chi is fine. I love her take on the role. She has her funny moments as Chi-Chi. One example is her argument with Videl when they first meet. Even good Anime dubs have added dialogue where there was none in the original. Spirited Away is a great example. Chihiro's line "It's a bath house" is in the same vein as Gohan's "My dad is a hero", and yet nobody complains because in one case Americans don't know what bath houses are and in the other Gohan is just showing happiness.

Vegeta should not be saying "as if". It's a stupid phrase said by idiots. Back in the nineties. He might as well say, "Talk to the hand." Maybe "gag me with a spoon" is coming next. Let's do the tiiiiime warrrrp agaiiiin!

The humor in the scene should come from Vegeta's reaction, not his dialogue. It's not Funimation's job to add humor.

I'm pretty sure that "It's a bathouse" didn't come from a motionless face. Wasn't it said with the character off screen for a moment? Gohan is talking without moving his mouth. I know anime has slipshod voice sync, but this is just silly.

And Cranz's Chi-Chi has always been horrible. She only brings out the worst qualities of the character, and feels extremely forced most of the time. It was a mistake for them to cast her again in the role.

Aw, no way. I think Cranz is a brilliant Chi-Chi. She's so perfect at capturing that pissed off mother/wife tone which is essentially what Chi-Chi is reduced to. But as a counter to that, I think she's also able to capture the sweet side of Chi-Chi, like in the filler towards the end of DB.

I say as if all of the time. I believe Chihiro did say that off screen. Again your view of Cranz as Chi-Chi like Sean's Goku differs from mine as I like her Chi-Chi, and the only reason she was cast again was a) she was available for the job again, and b) to not piss off fans. Fans are already pissed that Gohan, Bulma & Freeza were recast. I'm not though as those were great changes. The only change I hate was Jeice. Sabat should have given up Recoome and kept Jeice.

I don't think of "As if" as a "Joke" by any stretch of the imagination.

I think of the phrase as a normal turn of phrase in the English language.
Now, I haven't seen the offending scene yet, so I don't know what he said in Japanese, but again, it's pretty normal to me to say the phrase "As if".

I've just never heard of the term "As if" treated like anything other than a natural normal part of English lexicon. It means the same as "Yeah, Right".

This Idea that it's FUNimationn throwing a "Joke" in makes no sense to me.

I can't stand Bulma and Gohan's new voices.. I seriously mute my tv every time they talk! For some reason I'm also annoyed by Tien and Trunk's voices.. It's just not the same or any better.

I thought Monica Rial's Bulma was especially good in the recent episode. She really has a warmth that Tiffany Vollmer did not. You can really feel the affection she has for the other characters.
