A TV broadcast brings in a lot more new viewers than DVDs. My little brothers hang out and talk about Z Kai with their friends at school, and they are actually the target audience.JulieYBM wrote:Dragon Ball Z brought in new fans for multiple generations for twenty years before Dragon Ball Kai appeared..Piccolo Daimao wrote:Well, Dragon Ball Kai's bringing in a new, younger audience to the series. And I suppose FUNimation's English dub has support from people who want to see it done right this time. Perhaps that's what they were going for.mystic trunks wrote:Why would Kai do well? It's the same damn thing as DBZ, except rushed. If the intent was to keep DBZ alive, release some new shit.

I don't think I've actually addressed the original topic. I'd love to see a new, fully animated retelling of the Majin Boo arc. It'd be re-written to fit into the timeframe of two or so hours, but I'd be pretty cool nonetheless. I'd actually prefer it to Dragon Ball Kai covering it by splicing together the old Dragon Ball Z animation for a fourty or fifty episode arc.
I was not addressing the issue of the American broadcast run. I was addressing the issues it has in its native land, unless I've missed something in mystic trunks' post that indicated he was speaking of the English dub. I assumed by the title of the thread the forcus was on the success of the series in Japan, rather than the US release.Innagadadavida wrote:A TV broadcast brings in a lot more new viewers than DVDs. My mistake, see I think of Kai in how it affects me rather than just Japan. Obviously Japan is the first stop, but I was thinking of the (potential) movie in the larger sense, as in, everybody.
In that case, if the reruns or DVD releases really bring in that many new fans, then why create Kai at all? Obviously it was an attempt to appeal to a modern audience in a way that the classic anime series can not. So, I don't think your statement has much weight even in the way you meant it.

We could see the boo arc internationally for kai but it's possible for Japan that it might be put on hold due to sales. Big O got a second season thanks to the US, maybe the US can save the boo arc?
