Well, the 100th issue of Shonen Jump is here, and with comes the English translation of the One Piece X Dragonball Cross Epoch!

Here are two random pages from the one shot story...

I actually don't have it yet, but I plan to pick it up tomorrow. These scans are from MsDBZbabe.

"We're in way too big a hurry for this crap"

That did it for me. Since I just started watching One Piece, this never piqued my interest... but that line makes me want to read it even less....

Does anyone know if that's how they speak in the One Piece universe?? Because to me at least, it just sounds very out of character for Goku....

Thanks for the scan though~ ^_^

Yes it is. <Link to complete scans removed.>

Thanks Tanooki Kuribo for posting it here. I didn't know if anyone had done it yet so I didn't risk making a topic. XD Borders all around me are closing and no one had a copy. Thankfully I found it at the Japanese bookstore inside Mitsuwa.

Same here man, lol. I only bought it for those last pages; I never buy these books. XD

I bought the issue on my lunch break at work. $5 for the whole issue when all I wanted were the last ten pages LOL. It was a fun story. Pilaf and Buggy? That's hilarious. And Vegeta is a captain of an airship. It was much better than I thought it would be. I wish it were longer, but it was cool to see the characters interacting.

Hooray! X3

Parts of the translation seem kind of off to me for some reason, but I still like Cross Epoch (and can appreciate it more now that I've actually read One Piece).

Vegeta's spaghetti-o's cape still makes me smile.

The story itself does feel more like Oda, but you can definitely tell there's Toriyama mixed in there.

They speak like any other shônen. If you have a problem with the dialogue then the issue is with whoever wrote the line from Viz.

And really, it's Gokû. That's nowhere near the summit of how rude he gets in Dragon Ball.

Glad to see it got released, but on an off-topic note that's got ot be the worst Jump cover I've ever seen...
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
That's -really- not out of character for Goku. Maybe you've watched too much of the dub, but he speaks very bluntly in the original. This is nothing short of that.

It seems totally in character to me. Goku's not very polite.

Just one question. Doesn't posting links to scans of this pretty explicitly violate the forum rules?

Yes it does. This is an easy to purchase legal product. We aren't going to support links to scans of the entire thing. I almost missed that link entirely, but I'm going to remove it now.

I definitely didn't want to be rude, or overstep my boundaries, but I know that Daizex prides itself on supporting legal releases. This just came out. It's sitting on newsstands as we speak. If people want to read it, go buy it.

That sounds like something Luffy would say, actually. But since my experience in JP DBZ is kinda low, I'd take the other members' word for it that Goku is the same way.

I don't know, I think "We're in way too big a hurry for this crap" does sound kinda out of character for Goku. Sure Goku swears and is rude, but somehow that just doesn't sound like something he'd say. I can't really put my finger on exactly why. Maybe it's the idea that Goku would be so goal-oriented and dismissive of things instead of being distracted by the first shiny object to cross his path. But then, I haven't actually read the special in any form and am just judging the line out of context, so what do I know?

Also, Viz's Shonen Jump allows swear words now? When did this happen?

Well, 'crap' and 'Hell' has always been on their list "usually okay" list. Sometimes 'bastard' will mericulously slip in.

"Hell" when referring to the place has always been ok, pretty much. And while I know I've seen reprinted early gns of OP and Naruto replace some language that was in the original magazine printings from the first year or so with tamer euphemisms, tecently in One Piece's Paramount War arc, they've been having more "damns" than they used to.
