Why do Super Saiyans have blonde hair and bluish-green eyes?
I read this article, and it got me thinking: http://blackademics.org/2006/09/20/raci ... on-ball-z/
The fact that Super Saiyans have blonde hair, lighter skin, and bluish-green eyes can be offensive to both white people and non-white people. Super Saiyans lose a bit of control over their minds and are more aggressive, and regular black-haired Saiyans are physically weaker.
What do you think?
Subliminally, couldn't this affect people? Couldn't it make people think of themselves badly?

The reason their hair changes color is because it's easier to draw them with light hair, since you don't have to black the hair in. Toriyama has said he did this to give his assistant a break, since he was the one who always had to black in the hair.

Hmm interesting that you mention this topic. The other day while I was in the shower I made a rough linkage between the emphasis on blonde hair and blue eyes in the Super state and it's likeness to Hitlers' quintessential "Aryan Race" belief that he had. I wasn't trying to say that Goku and Vegeta are Nazis, but I found the likeness interesting in my own mind for that 10 minutes of showering to say the least.

You're both over-thinking this. It's been shown time and time again that Toriyama's main motivation for crafting pretty much any aspect of the series is to make things easiest for himself (and his assistant).

I suspect that's the same reason Goku's dougi becomes much simpler after Freeza. Damn drawing those emblems!Herms wrote:The reason their hair changes color is because it's easier to draw them with light hair, since you don't have to black the hair in. They actually have green eyes.Raithos wrote:Hmm interesting that you mention this topic. Uub presumably could become as powerful as Buu and he's as far as anyone except Piccolo gets from Aryan looking. Goku thinks he's more suited for protector of Earth than Vegeta or Gohan.
Goku's Super Saiyan 3 transformation looks similar to a Lion's mane. Might be some English/Animal supremacy being hidden in there subliminally!!!
...whining about the anime because it doesn't follow my "manga volumes agenda."

Uub came way after the first appearance of Goku's super saiyan transformation... way after any damage (intentional or unintentional) had been done on the minds of children.beast mode wrote:Herms wrote:

you don't think stuff like this can affect people? read the autobiography of Malcolm X, where he writes about how he was taught to hate himself.
All i'm doing is trying to get other people's opinions... not accusing Akira Toriyama of anything.
Re: Why do Super Saiyans have blonde hair and bluish-green e
Since when does their skin change color? Besides, never once are they referred to as Japanese. The series doesn't take place in Japan."They turn from Japanese men (black hair, brown eyes, tan skin) to white men (blonde hair, green eyes, white skin)."
Why on Earth would Toriyama-San, a Japanese man, blantantly perpetuate white superiority?"This blatant perpetuation of white superiority has serious implications."
I have never experienced anything that would suggest that black kids are more likely to be anime fans than white. If anything it's the other way around."However, anime has particular significance in the Black community because so many African Americans are anime fans."

Where did the series start, and in what language? Maybe the Wizard of Oz told him to do it. Maybe somebody behind the scenes. Maybe he did it unintentionally. Maybe he was affected by western culture.CODii wrote:Since when does their skin change color? Besides, never once are they referred to as Japanese. The series doesn't take place in Japan.

It doesn't matter if black kids are more likely or less likely to be anime fans than white kids.
Before anyone else comments, read my first post (what I initially wrote) -- I asked if you think this could affect kids subliminally.

Your posts on the subject seem to be a bit contradictory. On one hand, you say you just want people to keep an open mind and consider the possibility. But then on the other hand, you seem to be saying that what you're saying is definitively correct, and that those who aren't agreeing with you are close-minded sheep.

We know it's unintentional. Toriyama's said several times that he made the Super Saiyans' hair that way because it was easier than having to black all the hair in like before. Sure, maybe he's repeatedly lied and the real reason was because The Man told him to, but come on, you have to use Occam's Razor here.FreezaSama wrote:Maybe the Wizard of Oz told him to do it. Apparently you do, since a single article based upon false assumptions was enough to convince you that the SSJ state is some sort of subliminal Nazi propaganda engine.FreezaSama wrote: I too refuse to open my eyes to the world around me. I too believe everything I hear, see, and read.
At least I think that's what you're saying. It's rather hard to make sense of anything you have said.

So... Toriyama, knowing that since he was Japanese, 20 years in the future a larger amount of black-skinned citizens of foreign country x would be likely to watch a cartoon adaption of his work than white-skinned citizen of the same country, deliberately inserted vague hints of nazi ideologies for the sole purpose to fuck with this specific group of future-men?"However, anime has particular significance in the Black community because so many African Americans are anime fans."

It ain't just about black-skinned people. It's about his own people, too. Did you read the article? t mentions Japanese kids being affected.Adamant wrote:So... i haven't been convinced. if i had been convinced, i wouldn't of bothered posting anything. i like to play devil's advocate when other people accuse me of wearing a tin-foil cap, or when other people disregard the article for no good reason.CODii wrote:Apparently you do, since a single article based upon false assumptions was enough to convince you that the SSJ state is some sort of subliminal Nazi propaganda engine.FreezaSama wrote: I too refuse to open my eyes to the world around me.
