In the U.S. maybe. And why not? Sure, the video is terrible, but at the time, as someone with only a passing interest in the series who finally wanted to own a large chunk of episodes, they were great. At least they weren't so bad enough I felt the need to boycott for something better.
You can look into all the implications of that, but that's what happened. We got lucky and FUNimation realized that people were paying for large chunks of episodes, not for over-done remastering and cropped widescreen. But it could have gone much differently.
Must apologize for my regional mindset, I only know that an American DBZ revival is a big deal no matter how you slice it.
But that was one of the beauties of the Season Sets, they came out long enough after the series had left the air that high schoolers, college students, and beyond could say "Holy cow I loved that show! And they're in 29-39 episodes packs!" and buy it. VegettoEX wasn't lying when he said Funi was riding the box set wave with those things.
But getting the Dragon Boxes was a miracle, no question.

Just like
Dragon Ball since Chapter #4.

interest was reignited by DBZ Budokai on PS2 when it first came out. However, it wasn't a total re-ignition of my interest as it was just a general "fond memories" sort of thing while focusing the majority of my interest on the various DBZ games up to that point.
My total re-immersion back into Dragonball happened when the American Shonen Jump started running the Dragonball manga.

Dragonball Z Kai got me that fire inside again. After watching it for a few weeks, I bought all the season sets of Dragonball shorty after.

Soppa Saiyjins from Dorgou Ballru Zetto is my favorite transformation everah, especially when Trounksoru did it in front of Seru and when Bejita did it when he faced Jingonigen-hachigo. But for real, I use the FUNi pronunciation. - Soppa Saia People

I watched a Dragonball Z AMV one to many times and decided I wanted to watch the series again.
I have a Dragon Ball collection of sorts which can be seen here.

I lost interest in the series around late 2006/early 2007 after I bought the "First Strike" movie set and Movie 13 single. I didn't really get back into it again until when I heard about the live-action movie finally going in production, I then started playing the games again and I'm pretty much where I am now.

Dragon Ball Z Kai and the FUNimation Dragon Boxes reignited my interest after an 8 year break. I don't know why.

Team Four Star and their DBZ parody did it for me. I can also thank them for getting me interested in the Japanese version because they used CHA-LA-HEAD-CHA-LA as theme music and I thought it was catchy, and it all went on from there.

With the help of the games(up until recently) my interest in the series never really stopped. Then while I was flipping through the Dragonball section I found a picture of Toriyama's concept art of Teen Gohan provided by this site. I then spent the next few days browsing the main site and lurking in the forums; haven't stopped since. With the live action movie, Kai, and a yearly round of games I kept finding fresh new topics to keep me interested in the series.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

Becoming single again

I wanted a mission, and for my sins, they gave me one.

What reignited your interest in the series?
Dragonball Evolution and then Dragonball Multiverse.

I think that my interest was reignited by Dragon ball Kai ,just watching it changed my perception of the franchise.
Before that time dragon ball was basically the Funi dub and the movies, but after watching Kai I was exposed to the Japanese dub. Once I got used to the Japanese voices I started watching the original show and started learning what the series was really about in its original form.
Within 2 months I had gone from loving the Funi dub to cringing every time I heard them speak, I had been converted to the original series.
Also I guess Dragon ball also reignited my interest in anime in general.

Personally it never really went away for me, sure it cooled off a lot, but the announcement of the domestic Dragon Box Z's really ignited it again for me.

I never took a break from Dragon Ball. I'm not big of a fan as I used to be, but I still read and watch the series sometimes. I always keep my interest of Dragon Ball ever since I have became a fan back in the early 2000's. I think if it was not for the Internet and the video games, I would stop becoming a fan after the Ultimate Cut episodes or GT ended.

I stuck with the series since the very beginning when I got into the series. I never distanced myself away from the anime/manga. Though I have gone through periods of time that I didn't spend with anything Dragon Ball but I have thought of it or discussed about it from afar.

I've never really lot interest in the series... I just have breaks in between releases.
Like, I haven't watched much in the past few months, but I'll start watching straight away, when I get Dragon Box 5.
