Is it really Toei or Toriko's fault if DBKai is a failure? Blame Japanese kids. Blame the people downloading the show illegally. Hell, blame the economy.
I chose to blame to poor mindless effort put into the production of Kai. But that's just me. Again go back to my relationship comparison. It's hard to go "YAY TORIKO," when your favorite show just got replaced.
Also, I can't stress this enough:
smug bastard!

Is that Toriko's signature outfit? That would be a pretty awful coincidence if it is. I image searched him, but couldn't come away with anything conclusive.
I liked SparkyPantsMcGee's comparison of "a best friend getting dumped by his girlfriend for a younger/newer guy"; that especially fits if that Goku-inspired outfit is what Toriko's gonna be wearing in the anime all the time.
I wonder how they'll change the Dream 9 logo now that they can't use that Dragon Ball in it...

Wow, I truly am disappointed. I know Kai gets a lot of flack for being cheaply done, but still. As a strong hater of most filler, Kai has been a godsend for me. I've really enjoyed it as well as the Dub.
Just think, we all have Kai to thank that Linda Young will no longer be voicing Freeza in the Video Games.
I'm going to hold out hope that maybe one day Kai will come back and cover the Buu Arc.

I'm sure the Toriko anime was gonna be made eventually and even if Kai continued. It just happened that Kai's spot opened up so they Toei put it there. So what if it took Kai's spot? Should I boycott every anime that Toei is currently producing too because they didn't continue Kai? No thanks, cause I've been waiting too long for another Digimon series.

Not sure if that's his normal jumpsuit but that picture immediately made me frown. I'm also wondering about the Dream 9 logo now that you mentioned it.

It feels in bad taste, choosing Goku colors knowing the show's going to replace Kai.
Google image search shows Toriko's got a variety of different outfits; even ones where the jumpsuit pictured is green or purple instead of orange.
I hadn't thought of the Dream 9 logo until just that post. The one-star ball is literally the inside of the 9 in that image. Does Toriko have a replacement for that? Will they drop the "Dream 9" name altogether?

I assume that they just won't promote them as "Dream 9".
Also, Toriko kind of look like Kenshiro from FNS, to me. I even though that it was a new character design for a new FNS
Anime when I first saw it.

If nothing else, for me it's the One Piece relationship that's making the whole painful ordeal so much worse. I was able to deal with Toriko taking Kai's spot, that's one thing. Whatever. But for this brand-new anime, right off the bat, to be getting an ever-lovin' animated crossover special with One Piece, something that Dragon Ball has been long overdue to get for years now? Intentionally or not, that just reeks of "adding insult to injury" as I mentioned before. Not only is it taking Dragon Ball's spot, it's now getting special treatment on top of it.
For another metaphor, it's as if the very day you move out of the family's house, not only does your bratty little sister move right into your room, but right away she's given some new piece of furniture you've been needing and requesting for years.
EDIT: I felt the same way when The Spectacular Spider-Man got canned. Even though there's supposedly another new Spidey cartoon in the works that seems promising in itself, it's still such a damn shame that an already outstanding one like Spectacular was cut short for no good reason. And that new cartoon will forever have the stigma of, "it's not Spectacular Spider-Man," even if it's good in its own right.
So yeah, I know, it really isn't Toriko's fault. But how else am I really supposed to feel, here? There's a very unpleasant impression being conveyed in the whole deal. :/

I wonder how this will effect FUNimation's release. If Kai does indeed end with Episode 98, at 13 Episodes per box set...That has Part 5 covering up to Episode 65, Part 6 up to 78, Part 7 up to 91...And then what? Do the put out a single disc Part 8 with those last 7? Or sprinkle those last 7 over Sets 5-7?

If they have enough time to plan ahead, I suspect this is what will happen. Just divvy up the episodes as best they can between the sets.

It really is frustrating that Toei is pretty much shoving Toriko at One Piece since November (trying to get Toriko to ride off OP's coat-tails?). I like One Piece. I read the manga, I'll watch an episode of the anime from time to time, but how am I supposed to navigate past all these crossover promotions and advertisements knowing that not even a year ago that was Kai up there with OP instead?
When it was Kai and OP, it was like watching a block with a classic shounen and the juggernaut of today. Superficially, Toriko looks like a 1980's shounen, but it's not actually one like DB is. I know some people might have missed that kind of art style, but it really isn't my type.
I thought Dragon Ball and One Piece went well together; especially since Toriyama is one of the people who inspired Oda.
I wonder what Oda and Toriko's creator's relationship is like.
I do feel bad for those who invested in Kai's DVDs. I think I'd be really upset if I started buying them and then found out there'd be no Buu arc.

Hate to say it, but y'all only feel that way because we take cartoons too seriously around here. Toei isn't being rude, they're making a smart business move. Toriko's the new hotness. (Of course, this is supposing DBKai is actually getting canceled.)

I, for one, don't have any reason to watch One Piece live anymore. Especially since seeing Toriko plastered all over the place instead of Dragon Ball will be painful. I'll be sticking to FUNi's weekly subtitled simulcast instead. Unless
that gets cancelled too, knock on wood.

Dude this is the fan site to the cartoon series being released. What did you think the reaction would be? The whole "new hotness" thing is what's annoying. It's getting shoved down our throats in the most disrespectful way possible. I mean people have been wanting a Dragonball x One Piece anime crossover forever now. It's been established that these two franchises were partners in crime even before Kai came on the air. To watch Kai get kicked aside before it could be finished and replaced by the "new hotness" as if Kai never happened is kind of annoying...especially when you are a huge fan of Dragonball. Sure, it's not the end of the world. I'm not going to die and life will move one but as a Dragonball fan, watching this happen sucks!
Add the immediate crossover, the similar colored outfit(even if it's not permanent) and the "fuck you Dragonball" vibe from Toei and you are going to get a lot of fans on this site upset. I'm not even a huge One Piece fan and I'm upset. The annoying thing is, Toriko could bomb just as hard, if not harder than Kai; not wishing it does but seriously, the show looks generic as hell.

Forgot about Funi's simulcast (which is actually how I watch One Piece). I won't see any Toriko ads there at least, probably just ads for that Starbucks Via, Green Giant, or a car commercial.
EDIT: Kind of melancholy now, but if you go to One Piece Official, they still have their Goku and Luffy background image there.

That's
exactly my point. You have to take a step back
because you're a fan, and realize that you're overreacting. It's not like Toei owes you the Boo arc or anything, right? If sales are bad, sales are bad. Shows get canned all the time.
SparkyPantsMcGee wrote:but seriously, the show looks generic as hell.
Maybe, but you can't judge a book by its cover, remember? Toriko is a legitimately good manga. It's anything but generic. However, this isn't a Toriko forum, so I guess I'll shut up about it now.

The
Toriko comic is quite popular from what I have heard. The show will in most likelihood do very well. There is no "fuck you Dragon Ball" vibe from Toei. Toei has to do what is in their best interest. For the kids that care about
Dragon Ball there are reruns of Kai and even Z(I think) airing. And they could be putting it on hold and come back to dub it later just as Takeshi Kusao (supposedly) wishes.
And as I stated before, I'd be glad to see One Piece stop being paired with Dragon Ball.
If you have to blame anyone, blame the small Japanese children for not asking their parents to buy them a
Dragon Ball waffle maker or a tissue box shaped like Roshi's head.

The Jump scans concerning the One Piece/Toriko crossover show that they'll still be using the "Dream 9" moniker for the new pairing.

So now Toriko is not only metaphorically jumping in and stealing the recently deceased Kai's widowed wife on the rebound, but now it's also going to go make out with her in the back seat of Kai's car. Classy. :P
