Fun fact: When I first saw Bojack, in the SNES game Super Butoden 2, I had no idea who it was and called him "big green".
Then some time after that, I stumbled upon DBZ movies 2, 3 and 4 and my 13-year old self thought he'd pick 'em up. Sangohan ... Klirin ... Bluma ... BIG GREEN. It's like everyone says: it's so bad it's good.
Usually goes by "Kevtrev" elsewhere online.
Draws comics that may or may not have been blatantly inspired by Akira Toriyama's manga.

I watched half an episode, and turned off in disgust. It was just as bad, just with a more accurate script. And if there were more incongruous roles in Z than "king Kai" (whom they didn't recast), I'm really really happy I never got to her any of them. I like my ears.

Only in relation to the actual topic at hand.

Wow. You're harsh. Even harsher than penguintruth. Even he admitted that the current DBKai English dub was at least decent.

But this isn't about FUNimation's English dub of DragonBall Kai, so unless you can to pull it back to the actual subject at hand, I'll politely ask that you take this elsewhere.

OK, fair enough.

The "Big Green" dub is one of those "so bad it's good" dubs. It's so bad it could be mistaken for a parody. He-Man Goku, Piccolo's name change to "Big Green", the laughably bad voice acting, the quotable lines...I can't say much more than what others have already said. It's just hilariously awful.

I remember owning some of the Big Green movies when I was younger.
I'm kicking myself at throwing them away, I really must hunt them down and buy them again.

Greatest dub of all time. Absolutely brilliant performances from the voice actors.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Right, my original post was a comparison of this dub and the Funi dub anyway.

And going back to that... I never "grew up" with either of these dubs. I never "got accustomed" to either dubs specific brand a terribleness. I got some minor nostalgia for the early Saiyan arc Funi dub using the Ocean actors, as two early DVDs of that was the first I ever saw of the anime, but that's all. Both the Funi dub as a whole and the AB Groupe dub as a whole are just these really piss-poor English dubs of a series I have absolutely no reason or interest in seeing in English in the first place, but have seen bits and pieces of every now and then.

I never said I liked the AB Groupe dub. I don't. It's shit. Anyone with ears and a sense of quality can see that. What amuses me so much, though, is that, since no one really grew up on this shit, there are so many people who grew up on the other, equally shitty, dubs so willing to go out of their way to mock the terribleness of the AB Groupe dub, yet get all defensive if you even try to suggest that it's not any worse (and in many cases better) than the particular shitheap they grew up on, which anyone with ears and a sense of quality should also be able to see as a shit dub, had they not been bogged down with this treacherous nostalgia.

(oh, and Funi's Kai dub? Same miscast actors as before giving the same shitty performances as before, but with an accurate script this time. All I see are a bunch of people so used to these poor character portrayals being so impressed with the accuracy of the dialogue compared to the previous attempt they get all too forgiving. "The script is accurate to the original" is not a "positive", people. It's the least people should expect of a dub)

On-topic, this dub is so bad it's good. I love the line "Let that child alone." I love the pronunciation of Vegeta Veh-jeh-ta as well. Another classic line is "Come, magic cloud."

Off-topic, obviously Adamant hasn't heard the greatness of Chris Ayres' Freeza?

Chris Ayers is the only ground true anti-Funi people (Not discrediting the position, it's just that what Adamant is) will give, I've seen it before.

Anyway, it's got its flashes of brilliance amidst the flood of lolz. I love Big Green Cooler, some of his lines seem to fit the rushed speech.

So just because someone doesn't like Funimations old dub, they're "anti-Funi"?

In my opinion the best line is when Goku asks ChiChi: "Did they SAAAAAAAAAY?" in the "Pursuit of Garlick" Movie

The reason why I think FUNimation's Z dub is better than AB Groupe's dub, is because it fails at being an English dub. I think the numero uno prerequisite for producing an English dub is being able to speak the language fluently, wouldn't anyone agree? "Let that child alone" is not grammatically correct English. Singlish, maybe. But unarguably not English.

He subsequently shot down the Kai dub as the same miscast silliness with an accurate script, and that the rest of us are so enthralled by that we aren't noticing. Anti-Funi is probably too all-encompassing a statement, as they do more for the series than dub it, but he didn't limit things to the original dub.

He-Man Goku is the best Goku. In fact, I hope to Kami-Sama that there is a dub they did out there somewhere of the 3 Dragon Ball movies where Goku's Z voice is used for kid Goku. If not, then this dub needs to be made.

Indeed that would be something awesome and it would really be worth the money and time spent on it. If they can make so many other dubs of Dragonball, this one should be in priority.
If it doesn't exist, I agree with you, it needs to be made. Preferably with new footage too, and Magic Cloud in excess.
