Agreed! If I ever do decide to buy Kai, I'll pony up for the re-releases with the Kikuchi score. It's so nice to hear the original OST in better quality, with better quality dubbing to boot.ohaimynameiserik wrote:This accurate dub on Kikuchi action is getting me hot and bothered.

Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking of.kei17 wrote:A theme of Gohan played when Piccolo arrives, then Vegeta's theme plays after that..
Another thing that really bugs me, is when Freeza is deciding who to impale, a song starts playing, and almost immediately fades out before Only a Chilling Elegy starts. What was he thinking? That sounds like a really bad editing error, almost as if the track was mistakenly placed there and he forgot to remove it, and that scene really needed the silence.
Also, instead of timing tracks properly, or creatively looping parts to extend them to last the duration of the scene, he will cut to another song as one ends, during the same scene and the same shot (a prime example being at the end of the episode where Piccolo first arrives, where one track ends on the shot of Goku in the healing tank, then during the same shot another track, which I believe played earlier in the episode as well, starts playing). I could (and have) done better in Windows-freaking-Movie Maker. It almost, in terms of editing, sounds like someone removed the music from the episode and then just played a BGM CD in the background. He also seems to be using the same tracks over and over again, and sometimes uses certain tracks twice in an episode if I recall correctly.
Either that, or perhaps Toei is seriously rushing him to make these edits, so he just tosses in the first tracks he sees or something.Nagasaki must have never seen DBZ before.
I really don't know how I feel about Kai with Kikuchi, considering many of the track placements annoy me to the point where I don't know if I prefer the music I like more, with sub-par placement, over the music I find less fitting, but is somehow scored better. Perhaps I need to see a few more episodes with Kikuchi's score.

Re: DragonBall Z Kai - TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai)
I can explain this one. Toonzai/FUNimation's fault here. Because so much stuff was chopped out of Freeza impaling Krillin, in order to keep the entirety of the insert song intact, they started playing it way earlier. This is why the BGM song that plays there doesn't last almost anything. It should sound okay in the actual uncut version.Metalwario64 wrote: Another thing that really bugs me, is when Freeza is deciding who to impale, a song starts playing, and almost immediately fades out before Only a Chilling Elegy starts. Re: DragonBall Z Kai - TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai)
Honestly, I've felt that there was really no point for me to watch the Toonzai version of Kai other than for shits and giggles at the further censoring, but ever since the Kikuchi score has replaced Yamamoto's Kai score, I've been curious to see them. Overall I think it's interesting but some of the placement and choice of bgm kinda irks me.
Though it's interesting to note that I heard 2 of Yamamoto's bgm that were kept in during the latest Toonzai episode of "Frieza's Final Transformation! The Ultimate Nightmare Begins". But it switches right back to the Kikuchi score after the commercial break, as if it was a mistake (which no about about it was). They also played an instrumental version of "Only a Chilling Elegy" as opposed to the actual song in Nicktoons' TV version.
But of course, this is 4kids TV, so we also have more of the facepalm censoring moments. The one that got me the most was that they went and changed Freeza's line from "Bang" to "Bye-Bye"!
Really? Now I can come to terms with some of their edits because let's face it, Dragonball can be somewhat violent at times, but this lines caught me off guard both in it's ridiculousness and delivery. I know it implies firing a gun but come on. It's only fantasy violence since it's coming from Freeza's finger.
Other notable edits I've found were the muting of Dende's final scream, along with removing any shot of his lifeless body. Both Piccolo and Vegeta's "idiot" line that they had muttered were also muted. During Freeza's "...I'd show you a terror..." line, footage of Freeza talking while looking at Dende was looped over to once again replace the shot of Dende's corpse.

One of the biggest edits in todays episode were the glowing ball of light on top of Chiaotzu. I'm guessing they removed the halos on top of their heads. Another big edit was they removed the whole scene when Goku buried Vegeta, they just used a freeze frame with Gokus dialog for like 20 seconds then went to the next clip. And there was a lot of music i think they are over doing it with the old score.
Re: DragonBall Z Kai - TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai)
They all had the glowing orbs, which seems kinda strange to me.
Also pretty much every scene involving Vegeta's corpse was gone. They also cut a short scene where kid Vegeta blasts away an alien in a flashback, pretty sure.

In today's Toonzai airing, they kept an instrumental version of Super Dragon Soul, but replaced Saiyan Blood.

So its official. Saiyan Blood will never see the light of day unless Nicktoons keeps the old score. I saw this coming though.GotenDaisuki wrote:In today's Toonzai airing, they kept an instrumental version of Super Dragon Soul, but replaced Saiyan Blood.
GT isn't bad, just sucks ass in comparison to the other 2 animes.

Didn't Yamamoto compose Super Dragon Soul? I know he composed Saiyan Blood, and it was replaced, as expected, but if Yamamoto composed Super Dragon Soul as well, why'd Nagasaki decide to keep that?
So mondo lame.

I wasn't even aware the Japanese version had themes for specific characters, so I doubt this will bother me when I see Kikuchi-scored Kai episodes.kei17 wrote:A theme of Gohan played when Piccolo arrives, then Vegeta's theme plays after that. Re: DragonBall Z Kai - TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai)
WOW. They use Cell's theme for Vegeta's flashback after saying "A Super Saiyan is...", then use Gohan's Movie 9 Super Saiyan 2 theme for his death speech (which is being extremely overused by Nagasaki), then after Vegeta's dead, they replay the theme that had JUST played a few minutes ago, right after Vegeta was shot through the chest?
Why the hell does Nagasaki keep reusing the same few tracks? He has a huge library open to him, so why does he just keep using mostly a select few, while also repeating some throughout the same episode? It's getting annoying hearing the movie 8 theme where brolli expels his excess ki, and Cell/Metal Coola's theme over and over again, as well as the movie 9 Super Saiyan 2 Gohan theme during every "emotional" moment.
Either he's restricting himself to 5-10 tracks total, he's trying to make it sound "new" with the original music, or Toei's severely rushing him to make these replacements.

I really don't like what I'm hearing about these music replacements. I love the Kikuchi score, but not when it's rushed.
