My opinion on DBZ speeds

Post by Brohan » Sun Apr 24, 2011 1:13 pm

The best speed feat put ssj3 tier characters at mach 1000+,[the speed of solar wind iirc] so what this topic basically tries to do is guess at how fast characters are that are weaker and stronger than ssj3.[*Note, this assumes powerlevels do not scale linearly with strength/speed, ie: having twice the ki doesn't mean twice the stregth ect.]

Freeza Saga

Goku[base-post zenkai]-Mach 55
---->SSJ-Mach 150+

Vegeta[Post zenkai]-Mach 50

Freeza[33%]-Mach 65
---->50%-Mach 80
---->100%-Mach 140 and falling

Piccolo[w/weights on]-Mach 40
---->w/out weights on-Mach 42

Androids Saga

Trunks[Base]-Mach 55
---->SSJ-Mach 150+

King Cold-Mach 100+

Freeza-Mach 145

Goku[Base]-Mach 60
---->SSJ-Mach 155

Timeskip

Piccolo-Mach 100+
---->Fused with Kami-Mach 230[even with 17]

Gohan-Mach 50+

Goku[Base]-Mach 70
---->SSJ-Mach 180
---->Sick-Mach 65

Vegeta[Base]-Mach 71[slightly better than goku]
---->SSJ-Mach 181

Trunks[same as pre timeskip speed]

Androids 19 and 20[Somewhere between Mach 80-90,strong enough to make the saiyans transform, but they don't hold a candle to even Freeza]

Androids 17 and 18-[Mach 230, 220 respectively]

Cell[Imperfect]-Mach 190[stronger than the super saiyans, but still below the android twins]
---->After absorbing humans-Mach 250

Post ROSAT

Cell[2nd form]-Mach 300+[Said to be a lot faster than before, completley blitzed 18 when she tried to run]
---->Perfect[Holding back heavily]-Mach 370+[just enough to embarass Vegeta, but still a far cry from his true speed]

Trunks[Base]-Mach 80
---->SSJ-Mach 250
---->2nd Grade- Mach 330+[Higher than 2nd form Cell's, lower than Vegeta's]
---->Roided-Mach 250

Vegeta[Base]-Mach 85
---->SSJ-Mach 260
---->2nd Grade-Mach 350

Cell Games

Goku[Base]-Mach 100
---->SSJ[55%]-Mach 365[enough to be comparable to what Cell had shown to that point, but it's doubtful if he can really beat Cell]
---->SSJ[100%]-Mach 430+

Gohan[Base]-Mach 110
---->SSJ-Mach 440[ asks himself if Goku is really trying when he powers up for Korin, and again when he's fighting Cell]
---->SSJ2-Mach 550
---->SSJ2[wounded]-Mach 545[Contrary to popular belief, Gohan's over all strength/speed didn't go down all that much when he got blasted, it was made evident during the beam stuggle that he was mentally holding back]

Cell[Against Goku]-Mach 435
---->[Against Gohan]-Mach 460
---->[Full Power]-Mach 500+
---->[Roided]-Mach 300+
---->Super Perfect-Mach 550[exactly even with a fully powered Gohan, he says as much when he first regenerates]

Buu Saga

Piccolo-Mach 370[enough to hold his own with some Cell Juniors/Repressed Cell, still can't hold a candle to the Saiyans this time around :(]

Gotenks[SSJ3]-Mach 2000+[Manages to double his speed from when he last flew around the earth]

Super Buu[Base]-Mach 1500+
---->Gotenks/Piccolo Absorbed-Mach 3870[Super Buu's absorbtions are addative, so his speed is equal to his speed plus the people's he absorbed]
---->the kids/Piccolo absorbed- Mach 2070[100 each for the kids, still low enough to get his ass beat by Gohan according to Goku]
---->Gohan/kids/Piccolo absorbed-around Mach 5000-[At this point he's very high end hypersonic, second only to Vegetto who is low end relativistic by powerscaling]

Gohan[Mystic Power up]-Mach 3000+[simply above everything else in the DBU bar Vegetto, some inflation on my part due to being a Gohan fanboy]

Vegetto[Base]-Mach 4000+[stronger than either Goku or Vegeta, still low enough that he needs to transform to fight Buu]
---->SSJ-Mach 8000+[Faster than Buuhan, bordering Relativistic speeds, which are mach 8800+, still has another two transformations under wraps]
---->SSJ2-Mach 10000[just over 1% the speed of light]
---->SSJ3-Mach 20000+[just over 2.2% the speed of light]

Honestly, doesn't stuff like this belong in fan works rather than in-universe discussion?

I get the gut feeling you may be right about the earlier speeds, but that you might have low-balled some of the ones from the Cell Arc and later. Query: can you extend your methodology to early Z or into GT?
Dr. Gero: I cleared the area of innocents, in accordance with your wishes. Do you disagree with my methods?
Goku: Grr...leave these people out of this!
Android 19: There are no people left to leave out.

What speed feat would that be?

If the answer is, "Gotenks flying around the world X times in Y seconds," then I'm going to hurt something.

With violence.

Amazing how the sound barrier can be broken without creating a sonic boom.

They move so fast they dodge the air without disturbing it.

Yeah.

Yeah.
The concept isn't as far-fetched as you may think. Diving bells weigh well in excess of a ton and displace far less water when they're dropped than they should otherwise because of the speeds they hit the water at (often in excess of fifty mph). A sonic boom is the same principle - air rushing to fill a vacuum created by the dispersion of fluid. And at the speeds they're going, the air would act more like a solid than a gas: mere supersonic jets can become physically (and not merely mechanically) damaged by traveling at high speeds for too long. More bothersome is the fact they should be so hot from friction that they ought to set fire to the ground as soon as they come in contact with it.

Joking aside, a sonic boom is caused by the object outrunning its own sound waves. The sound waves ahead of the object can't "get out of the way" fast enough. It's more comparable to a boat moving through the water than to a diving bell being dropped into the water; at low speeds, the boat's movements will create ripples out in front of it--like throwing a pebble into a pond--but at higher speeds, the boat will outrun these ripples and create a cone-shaped wake. What you're talking about is creating a boat that's so fast it creates no waves.
