Re: Dragonball Universe Map
I'm not at home to post it, but I'm pretty sure the one he wants is the one where Toriyama added the Kaioshin Realm.

Re: Dragonball Universe Map
Where in that map is the tree that grows Kai located?
Re: Dragonball Universe Map
No one knows for sure. It's on Planet Kaishin, but all we know about that is it's located somewhere in the cosmos ball, which doesn't narrow it down much.SuperForteX wrote:Where in that map is the tree that grows Kai located?

Re: Dragonball Universe Map
Ah, well it's within the cosmos ball, rather than outside of it like Supreme Kai Land, right? I think it must orbit Heaven then, along with Great Kai's world.Bussani wrote:No one knows for sure. Re: Dragonball Universe Map
Yeah, Toriyama said it's in the ball that contains the universe and the afterlife. Since it's said to be similar to the Kaio planets but larger, it could well be in the afterlife somewhere...but I guess only Toriyama knows for sure.SuperForteX wrote:Ah, well it's within the cosmos ball, rather than outside of it like Supreme Kai Land, right? Is there a translated version of this?
Re: Dragonball Universe Map
Kanzentai have translated it, just click on the link Adamant posted. You should be able to hover over segments of the picture, click on anyone you want and you'll see more detailed information.Michsi wrote:SSJSteve wrote:What about this? Is this one fan made?

Re: Dragonball Universe Map
OK, let's get this all straightened out.
Toriyama first drew a map of the DB cosmos (ie the entirety of DB existence more or less, including the universe, afterlife, etc) for the anime staff, something he mentions in his Daizenshuu 4 interview. He doesn't say exactly when (other than that this was before the Kaioshin Realm appeared in the story), but presumably it was for the afterlife tournament filler arc, because in the first episode of that they do in fact show an overview of the DB cosmos that matches the map later shown in the daizenshuu and other guidebooks. Daizenshuu 4's foldout poster displays some of Toriyama's rough sketches, mostly of potential character designs, but one of them is of the DB cosmos. As far as we know, this is the only image we have of the DB cosmos that Toriyama actually physically drew. It's also probably the thing he drew for the anime staff during the afterlife tournament filler arc, since it doesn't feature the Kaioshin Realm and talks about the Dai-Kaio. This image is in black and white, and you don't usually see scans of it.
Fast forward to Daizenshuu 4. In the book's interview, Toriyama says that for this book he took the opportunity of adding the Kaioshin Realm to the DB cosmos map. It wasn't there before because, well, he hadn't thought of it yet. This probably also explains why the Kaioshin Realm is outside of the "cosmos ball" that everything else is stuffed inside; it was easier to just tack it on there than redesign the cosmos ball to include it. Anyway, if Toriyama did personally redraw the DB cosmos map at this point, we probably didn't get to see it. Besides the black and white rough draft in the foldout poster, Daizenshuu 4 has two images of the cosmos map. The first is in the book's prologue. It's in color, but none of the various locations are labeled. At the bottom it says that the "original concept" was by Toriyama, implying that he didn't personally create the image. It's this image that gets reprinted again and again in later guidebooks. This starts later in the Field section of the book, which has a small red-scale reprinting of the image it, this time with all the locations labeled and explained. So far nobody's posted pictures of either of these in the thread. After that is the map of DB Earth that SSJSteve posted, which the books says was supervised by Toriyama, again implying that he didn't personally draw it (which you can kind of tell; it doesn't look like a drawing of his).
Daizenshuu 7 has a small black and white reprinting of cosmos map, with some parts labeled. The main addition here is that the Demon Realm is identified as being in the little pointy tip at the bottom of the cosmos ball. The locations dictionary features a small reprint of the Earth map from 4, but with none of the locations labeled. It's mostly there to demonstrate the 12 subdivisions of DB Earth that Daizenshuu 4 and 7 use to organize locations.
Fast forward to DB Landmark, which recycles of lot of stuff from the daizenshuu, including the cosmos and Earth maps. The first image Bussani posted is of the cosmos map from this book. The main feature here is that because DB Landmark only covers the manga up to the end of the Freeza arc (the end of kanzenban 22, to be precise), it doesn't include any information on anything after that point. So the Kaioshin Realm is removed from the map entirely, although you can still see its little orbit line, and the Dai-Kaio's planet is unlabeled, though you can still see it. The Earth map likewise doesn't label any post-Freeza locations, and it uses different subdivisions than the daizenshuu, simply dividing everything up into north, south, east, and west.
Finally, the Super Exciting Guide: Character Volume feature yet more reprints of Daizenshuu 4's cosmos and world maps, both in black and white. The cosmos map is fairly big and labeled pretty much like the one in Daizenshuu 4, and doesn't mention the Demon Realm. There's also another very small reprint in Toriyama's Q&A in the back, which only labels the four Kaios' planets, the Kaioshin Realm, and the Demon Realm (here again identified as in the point at the bottom of the cosmos ball). The DB Earth map is small and uses the same four subdivisions as Landmark. No locations are labeled on it, only the subdivision (north, south, east, and west) but a table below lists some of the locations in each subdivision.
The second image Bussani posted is a fan-made image. It's basically accurate to the daizenshuu images, but misspells Makai (Demon Realm) as Maikai. The seemingly random mix of untranslated terms, translated terms, and Funi terms like "check-in station" also bugs me.
