DragonBall: As Told Through the Video Games!

So as some of you know..the Famicom games do tell the story..but sometimes put a twist on it. So here's a loose adaptation of the DB story..as told through the games. We'll start with the Famicom games. Here's the original Dragonball!

Chapter 1: Meeting Kame-Sennin
The introduction to the DragonBalls is essentially the same. Bulma meets Goku and they take off. Along the way, they run into several foxes. Goku shows his skills and takes em out. Then they come across a large monster. Goku actually puts some strength into this one, but defeats him. Then Bulma is captured! Goku races off, fighting foxes along the way. Goku enters a cave, and find capsules. With Bulma's help, he knows how to open them. . To Goku's delight, some of them contain food! But one of them contains a Nyoibo! He knows that his grandfather had one. (Goku didn't ever get one.) Goku contains his chase, and finds himself in a cavern, against VegettoEX's favorite BEAR WIELDING SWORD. He's no match for Goku though. Goku leaves the cave and finds himself in new terrain. He's never been this far from home. He's in a desert area, with more and more enemies. Goku crosses over to a small river, and finds himself a turtle. He is Umigame. Goku volunteer's to take him home, much to Bulma's dismay. Goku crosses the land and prepares to take Umigame home. Here, the same story goes. Goku meets Kame-sennin. Nothing new here.

Chapter 2: Oolong!
Same thing as the original story actually!

Chapter 3: Yamcha The Thief
The DB gang cross through a desert. They come across Yamcha! Goku defeats him and takes off. They proceed to cross the desert, until Yamcha comes back! He bombs the gang while riding a hovercraft. The gang jumps into a hidden cave. They go through the trials of the cave, finding two Dragonballs hidden inside! They have collected six! But who's waiting for them at the end of the cave? Yamcha! Goku is able to win the fight carefully. But Yamcha has learned about the Dragonballs. He plans on watching the group, and swiping the DB's from under them.

Chapter 4: Mount Frypan
Same as the original story.

Chapter 5: Carrots!
Goku travel's through the trials of a cave, collecting 4 carrots to free Bulma. He defeats Monster Carrot, and moves on...with Yamcha behind them.

Chapter 6: King Pilaf
The last Dragonball is in King Pilaf's castle. Goku and the gang go through until they reach a two-headed dragon, who has the last ball. Goku fights, using the Kame-hame-ha, and defeats the Dragon. Goku gets the wish for all his hard work. He wishes to be stronger! The gang says goodbye for now!

Chapter 7: Kung Fu Tournament
Goku returns to Master Roshi's for training. No Kuririn...huh. Roshi sends Goku to a shrine for his first test. Goku fights three monks, and wins swiftly. Goku proceeds on..and HERE COMES KURIRIN! He fights Goku, and Goku wins! After, Roshi makes him fight more monks. Goku proceeds to the second chamber. Here, he fights the Metal Soldier! (The guy from Muscle Tower) He puts up a tough fight against the boy, but Goku escapes with a victory. More monks, Goku proceeds to the third chamber..his enemy? YAMCHA! Goku has beaten him twice, and deals with him no problem. But what awaits him in the fourth and final chamber? Goku fights against staff-wielding monks, and enters the final chamber. He is challenged by King Byon! (Also from Muscle Tower) Goku can't beat him! Goku punchs a hole in the wall. Turns out Byon is immune to sunlight. Goku fights, Goku wins! Rosh congratulates him.

Chapter 8: Rabbit Revenge
Goku wants his Four-Star ball back. His ball...? On the moon. But who's on the moon? MONSTER CARROT. Goku fights against Krilian, the number one assassin. No match for Goku though. Goku goes through the moon, to find that Monster Carrot has the Dragonball. He wins the fight, and gets the Dragonball..but it's the 5 star ball! The search must go on!

Chapter 9: The Seven Islands
Goku travels through a sea cave, fighting crabs along the way. He gets out, to find Bulma by his side! They are in the jungle, and are ready to go.

Chapter 10: King Binbo!
Goku travels through the jungle, where he meets King Binbo..an Indian. Goku knocks him out of the Jungle, and finds the Dragonball. Once again, not the four-star ball.

Chapter 11: Up Tower
Goku is faced with his most difficult task. A massive tower. Goku fights through all nine floors, and fights a Large Robot. It's Goku's toughest battle, and he almost doesn't make it. He wins, and the Dragon is summoned. Goku is bored of the Dragonballs now, and takes off on Kintoun. (END OF SHENRON NO NAZO)

Chapter 12: Kuririns Death!?
Goku does another Kung Fu tournament. Yipee. Kuririn also does it. YIPEE. The gang returns to Kame House...to FIND KURIRIN DEAD! Goku catches up to Tambourine, but is no match and is knocked out. He wakes up at Kame House! Tenshinhan, a new allie met at the tournament, saved him. Goku was able to get all the info out of Tambourine about Piccolo Daimao. Roshi warns Goku of his Daimao's power. The gang turns on the TV, to see Daimao announcing his rule of the world. (He didn't use the Dragonballs. He's still old..I guess.) He takes off to find Bulma in West City!

Chapter 13: Daimao's Power!
Goku searches West City..but can't find Bulma. He finds her..captured by Daimao's henchmen, Ukulele! Goku defeats him. Bulma gives Goku the Dragon Radar to find the balls before Daimao does. Goku takes off on Nyoibo! He travels to the south, finding a shape shifting school! The gang is all together. Suddenly Ukulele appears! Goku defeats him and goes on his way.

Chapter 14: Muscle Tower
Now..it's kinda confusing here..Goku never went to Muscle Tower in this game...So let's just say..he goes there. Inside is an old rival. Pilaf! He defeats Pilaf and the tower. And he collects a Dragonball.

Chapter 15: The Rest of the Daimao Story
Goku makes his way back to Kame House for a mini-sub capsule. Goku ventures underwater! He is met by MANY of Daimao's offspring. Then he is greeted by Banjo, Daimao's strongest. Goku takes him out, only to find Tao Pai Pai! Goku has not met Tao..so...yeah..he defeats him and gets a Dragonball. Goku can't find the next Dragonball, so he heads to Uranai Baba's. Let's just say the Baba arc DID happen before the 2nd Kung Fu Tournament. And of course, who else but Pilaf? He has the Dragonball. Goku returns to Pilaf's Castle, to be faced by the Pilaf Machine. (The thing he used on him in the Red Ribbon arc, after Baba.) Goku wins, gets the Dragonball, and leaves. Goku then heads to Karin Tower, after hearing from Roshi about Karin. Goku trains with Karin, and is much much stronger. Goku takes off on Kintoun, and flies over Penguin Village! Goku goes to check it out. Arale is fighting..someone...Monster Carrot! Goku defeats him quickly, and finds Cymbal waiting for him. Also there, is Yajirobe. Goku is tired of Piccolo Daimao, so he kills Cymbal with a kiai move. Once Cymbal is done..an odd spaceship lands. THIS is Daimao's strongest. Synthesizer is Daimao's newest child. Even with Goku's new strength, Goku struggles fighting him. Goku wins, but he knows that since that was just one of Piccolo's children, he himself must be stronger. He speeds off to Karin Tower. Karin tells him to head to a shrine. Goku takes off, but stops at Kame House first. Kame warns Goku of the danger. Goku heads to the shrine..and prepares to summon Shenlong. Instead of a dragon, he's greeted with a palace in the sky. He climbs up, and faces Konpei-Sama. He defeats him, and also gets a new Gi (his is alittle dirty.), and races off towards Daimao's Castle! Goku goes to the King's Castle, which is now in ruin's thanks to Daimao's rule. Daimao appears to Goku, admiring his strength. He summons Tambourine, Drum, and Synthesizer. Goku beats them easily, showing he's serious. He wins the fight with Daimao, and saves the world. (END OF DAIMAO FUKKATSU)

Chapter 16: The Legend Of Goku
The training arc happens. Everyone is restored to life. By that I mean Kuririn and the citizens. Goku is 18 now. Goku is going to the 3rd Kung Fu tournament. The route is a long one..and on his way he enters a familiar place. Mount Fry-pan. Chi-Chi is there, and asks for Goku's hand in marriage. Goku doesn't get it, but he says yes..and he'll do it after he wins the tournament. He goes to the arena! He has to win 4 fights, and he will be crowned victor. First is a Cyborg Tao-Pai-Pai. Goku wins. Then he fights Yamcha. This is more of a challenge but Goku wins pretty easily. Then comes Tenshinhan. A rematch that Tenshinhan won. Goku edges out though and wins..to face Ma Junior, Piccolo Daimao's son. Goku wins. End of Dragonball. (END OF FIRST 3 GAMES)

Well, the Z games on the NES do follow each other, up until Hatchiak, after Cell.

Yeah but they all have little side stories and alternative paths, I think the Cell saga game cuts out before Perfect Cell too. I'd like to see someone make sense of that!

From what I understood from the games, there's a few "lines", and I don't really think you can mash it all up in one single timeline.
You've got:

Dragon Ball Famicom Series:
The Mystery of Shenlong; The Great Demon King's Revival; Goku's Legend; Assault! The Saiyans; The Violent God, Freeza!!; A Violent Battle with the Artificial Humans; The Plant to Eradicate the Saiyans

Super Legend of Goku:
Chapter of Assault; Chapter of Awakening

The True Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans:
Earth Chapter; Space Chapter

You then have standalones like The Super Saiya Legend and Attack of the Saiyans.

And of course, all the fighting games with alternate arcs, like Sparking! NEO's Good Raditz arc and stuff like that.
I've been trying to actually write down a short plotline for each and every game story, it's a lot of work though.

Yeah that's mainly why I just said Famicom games for Z so it would just be Assault, Violent God, Artifical Humans and Plan to Eradicate The Saiyans. It seems workable but I'm not good at RPG card battling so I never made my way through them all.

Never played the game myself, but apparently Piccolo is supposed to regain his youth by absorbing energy from humans rather than via the dragonballs, or at least that's what Japanese Wikipedia says.

Here's the Saiya-jinn arc! Interesting to see the Movie 1 tie-in.

Chapter 1: The Beginning
(Everything is the same as the original story....)

Chapter 2: Preparing for the Saiya-jinn
Goku is alive! But Kami takes him to Hell for training. He starts on his trek to King Kai. Back on Earth, the gang (Kuririn, Piccolo, Gohan, Tenshinhan, Chaozu, Yamcha) all split up to find the DragonBalls. Piccolo and Gohan, Kuririn and Yamcha, and Tenshinhan and Chaozu. Goku reaches Kaio Sama, and begins his training. Piccolo and Gohan head to the artic for a Dragonball. They are able to find it, but they have a challenge. Sansho! (From DBZ Movie 1). Piccolo handles him, while he DOES try to involve Gohan. They take the Dragonball and move on. Goku begins his training with Bubbles. Moving on! Kuririn and Yamcha head to the forest to find the 5th Dragonball. Also in their way is Nikki (also from Movie 1). He's defeated and drops the Dragonball. Goku trains with Gregory. Yay. Tenshinhan and Chaozu go to the desert for the 6th DragonBall. Garlic Jr.'s last henchmen Ginger awaits them. They win, and head to Garlic Jr.'s Castle for a showdown.

Chapter 3: Reviving A Hero
All 6 Z-Senshi are at Garlic Jr.'s Castle for the last DragonBall. Nikki, Ginger, and Sansho confront them for a rematch. With their training, the warrior's defeat them and find Garlic Jr. They defeat him, and acquire their last DragonBall. Goku fights Kaio, but is clearly no match for him. Kaio still tells him Goku has gained massive power. Goku is revived, and heads back to E
arth. The Saiya-jinn have arrived.

Chapter 4: Attack of The Saiya-jinn
The gang are confronted by Saibamen. They defeat them. They fight Nappa. Everyone survives. Goku arrives and beats on Nappa.. The fight with Vegeta begins. The original story from here! Everyone survives and Vegeta escapes, but they all sense a greater power in space that MUST be stopped at all cost.

Namek Saga!


Chapter 5: To Planet Namek!
The Z-Warriors travel to Namek. Kami says the only way to revive the people killed by Saiya-jinn are with Namekian Dragonballs. They accidently land on Fake Namek, but leave after Piccolo realizes the trick. They continue onto the real Namek. They arrive and immediately start a search for the Dragonballs. They go to a Namekian village, and when the elder realizes they are good, gives them a Dragonball. When they go to the next village, they are stopped. Cui, a soldier, who also has a Dragonball. He will not allow them to pass. Tenshinhan stops him, and they have a 2nd Dragonball.

Chapter 6: The Demon
Goku has recovered. He himself is off to Namek. He indulges in gruesome training on the way there with Gravity Training. The gang back on Namek are racing towards another Dragonball, as they can sense Vegeta and another large power close behind. They land, get the Dragonball, and GO. They head to another village and receive a 4th ball. Dodoria and Zarbon land. Vegeta is far behind. Piccolo defeats Dodoria while Kuririn beats Zarbon. They both have Dragonballs! They wonder who could have the final ball. A young Namekian named Dende at the village tells the that Guru may have it. Kuririn volunteers to go. Back in space, Goku is training. But his ship detours, onto Planet Kanassa. The Kanassajins challenge Goky for some strange reason. After being defeated, one of them tells of how a Saiya-jinn came here and destroyed their race, and he looked like Goku. Goku is confused, and continues his journey. Kuririn meets Guru, gets the last Dragonball, and has power increased ten-fold. Sweet! The whole gang joins him, and also receives a power-up. And another person arrives, Vegeta! He volunteers to "help" them, by summoning Porunga before the Ginyu-Tokusentai arrive. Guru refuses to increase his power. Vegeta knows its far too late, as the Ginyu Tokusentai arrive.

Chapter 7: Rebirth
Goku arrives. The warriors stand no chance against the Ginyu team, but with Goku's help, they win. Piccolo rushes back to Guru's, to find Nail dead. He fuses with him, and rushes back. Freeza arrives. Goku wins easily. But Freeza is just getting warmed up. Freeza transforms, (into his Final Form). He kills Dende, so they have no healing option. Freeza finally falls. But he's not done. With energy bursting through him, he is finally able to transform into a Super Saiya-jinn.
