Is it weird that I can't watch DBZ anymore?
Re: Is it weird that I can't watch DBZ anymore?
Well, I have Volumes 1-15, 18-23 and 26 of the DBZ manga and 1-6 of DB. As soon as I get them all I'll read through( I've never gotten through all of the DB story. But Vegito being called Vegerot irks me to no end.

I couldn't get used to the new voices in Kai either, the deliveries and everything just felt wrong, but the English dub is good enough for me.
I don't think I ever cared that much about the length, other than the Saiyan arc, there are times where I rewatch from the start and want to get to the fights right away.

It's not weird at all. I can't even read the manga, myself. The only aspects of Dragon Ball that still interest me are online discussions, and the various guidebooks I haven't read yet.
When (IF) the day comes that the guidebooks become fully available to us, they'll probably lose their mystique as well.
Then it's nothing but debates and fan fiction.

I can sit through Z. Just some episodes are really slow and I switch it off then, but keep it for later or skip the episode.
I have no problem with the pace. The way I see it, the pace is fine. For a first time viewer, the pace increases the suspense a lot.
I can still watch DBZ in it's entirely now even though I finished it way back in 2003 because I watch it in Japanese. The voices are great, their personalities are so charismatic, not to mention the music. Certain fights still make me so excited even though I've probably seen them some 20 times. Fights like ReaCume vs Vegeta, Number 17 vs Piccolo etc.
Herms, I know what you mean. After I read the manga, I didn't feel like watching the show, but since a year and a half I have. I love to hear their voices and see their reactions on my tele. One question, like I mentioned earlier, do parts of the Anime still excite you as much as before?

I find the anime pretty much unwatchable. It’s just too slow for me; I get bored of it too easily. That’s why I vastly prefer the manga.
This is exactly what I do, the rare times I can be bothered to watch the anime.Chuquita wrote:what I tend to do with episodes that I find boring (like Bulma and the Crab...Fake Namek...) is use either the 1.2x or 1.4x speed option. It speeds up both the video and audio just enough where it's not ridiculously fast, but still fast enough to keep it from getting dull (also the unnaturally faster audio can give me a laugh or two at points, so that's a bonus).

Well, you only have to put up with it for, like, two chapters.JBoogie wrote:Vegito being called Vegerot irks me to no end.

Except for the bolded sentence, I am the exact same way (actually, I still haven't seen Z in its entirety. I have yet to watch about 10 or so episodes in the Majin Buu arc).SylentEcho wrote:I can sit through Z. I don't see any problem with the pace of Z. I agree with SylentEcho in that I love watching fights in the series over again even after watching them multiple times. Also, I personally don't mind watching any of the filler.
To be honest, I find Kai to be too fast-paced for me. Sure, it follows the manga closer, but even after reading what little of the manga I have read -- only about four or five volumes -- I don't think even the manga was that fast-paced.

You're underestimating the pacing of the manga (not that I think the manga was fast-paced, though). Something like the Piccolo vs. second-form Freeza before they both stopped holding back took, like, a couple of pages.Shiyonasan wrote:I don't think even the manga was that fast-paced.

Regarding the manga's pace, it depends on how carefully you read and watch the pages. When I'm on the can and read the manga (don't shoot me) I read it quite fast. But if I am going to sleep, I take a long time on me and study the art too.
Re: Is it weird that I can't watch DBZ anymore?
I've watched and adored DBZ for YEARS! But it's just getting boring now, not to mention old... like 20 years old.
Anyways, I like Kai a whole lot better and its more bearable, But I STILL can't even watch Kai.

Re: Is it weird that I can't watch DBZ anymore?
It should take you a long time to read this manga... There's a lot of intricate detail work and stunning character art. You shouldn't just be reading a story, you should be admiring great artwork. Whenever I read the manga, I dwell on every panel as long as I can. I try to pick out every minor detail, from subtle stuff in the background and scenery, character's face expressions (even the secondary faces in the background).
For example, did anyone notice Krillin's face when Vegeta is mocking Freeza for his "transformation" of taking his battle jacket off?
There's so many great details in the manga. If you skip through from word balloon to word balloon, you're not really enjoying the full presentation.

Personally if I just want to see Dragonball fast-paced, I'd rather read the manga in that aspect. Otherwise it's DBZ for me.
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.
Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

Re: Is it weird that I can't watch DBZ anymore?
I get really engrossed whenever I watch DBZ, it never feels very long to me. The only episode that's ever really bothered me was the one where it literally takes an entire episode for Perfect Cell's transformation to complete...
Krillin, the guy is just a ridiculous midget without nose.Seriously, he looks like some kind of bizarre monster.
Krillin's head is also pretty big like a balloon.

Eh... it gets kinda old hearing elitists say things like "IT SHOULD HAVE ENDED WHEN GOKU MET BULMA"
Re: Is it weird that I can't watch DBZ anymore?
I recently picked up Dragonbox vol. 1 since it was fairly cheap on Amazon at the time (I paid like $26 for it). Having become used to Kai's fast paced, I completely forgot how slow the show was. For my main DB watching, I'm probably going to stick to the Kai sets. Though I will eventually watch Dragonbox for nostalgic purposes.
