Hundreds, maybe even thousands of low-class Saiyans alive?
If Saiyan babies were sent off to weaker worlds, why wouldn't there be hundreds, possibly even thousands of low-class Saiyans still alive? I mean, the Saiyans were supposed to be very busy and prominent as Freeza's minions. Freeza had at least 79 planets under his control. Wait.. why does Freeza have planets? I thought they sold planets.
Raditz's whole story seems to account for an alternate reality where Freeza doesn't exist, doesn't it?
Wow, I just totally derailed my own topic in the middle of typing it.

I always thought that Freeza had his men track down and kill all Saiyans, and Goku only survived because he was sent off directly before the destruction of Planet Vegeta.

Ah, I see! So you imagine something like the scene from Star Wars Episode III (Shudders) with the whole "Execute Order 66", and then all the Saiyans were just shot in the back and erradicated. That's... entirely plausible.
But the wording in the story pretty much indicates that the act of destroying Planet Vegeta was the direct cause of their extinction.

This question again...
Personally, I believe Freeza sent people to kill every single saiyan, on every single planet they were sent to. Goku was an exception because he was probably sent a couple of minutes before he blew up the planet. There was just no record of him yet.

Coola has at least 256 planets. I don't know what they do with all of them, but they probably use most of them for bases/colonies, etc.SuperForteX wrote:Wait.. why does Freeza have planets? I thought they sold planets.

Maybe he doesn't actually sell them , maybve he rents them. More profit this way.
Tbh, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that more the 4 survied. Not hundreds and definetly not thousands, but a couple here, a few there. Probably either trying to keep a low profile or ruling some distant unknown planet or something like that.

Even if Freeza had his troops track down the survivors, it's possible that a handful of Saiyans either escaped or slipped under the radar. Even in the manga's course of events, people like Tullece and Tarble could be out there somewhere.

Star Wars made a good deal with this subject. In FF it's typical source of Mary Sues one of the most developed topics. Do we have any good fancomics dealing with this?
Freeza's planet for rent business is awesome, but it doesn't have to be only explanation. My idea is that he preferred to milk the best planetes instead of selling them for one time profit. Also, in such a big business some contractors might turn out to be insolvent, so they were waiting for better offer.

Re: Hundreds, maybe even thousands of low-class Saiyans aliv
There's no way of knowing how many Saiyan babies would have been out there in the first place, and according to Raditz there were never very many Saiyans even before their planet was destroyed. Raditz says that he, Vegeta, Nappa, and Goku survived because they weren't on the planet at the time, which makes it sound like they were the only ones off-planet then. Seems strange, but I don't think it really contradicts anything. I mean, there were only about 100 Namekians on Namek during the series, so it wouldn't be unprecedented for the Saiyans to have had a very low population like that. Though maybe Freeza did send out troops to kill off-planet Saiyans like others have said, and simply told Raditz and co. that they were the only ones not on Planet Vegeta at the time. But then, if it really had been normal for hundreds of Saiyans to be off conquering planets at a single time, wouldn't the survivors get pretty suspicous when Freeza tried claiming that only the three of them had been off on assignments?
I don't see why he can't sell planets but keep some for himself. I'm sure the head-honchos over at Ford or Toyota own cars.SuperForteX wrote:Wait.. why does Freeza have planets? I thought they sold planets.

If we assume that they reproduced sexually it's too low number to avoid inbreeding.I mean, there were only about 100 Namekians on Namek during the series, so it wouldn't be unprecedented for the Saiyans to have had a very low population like that.

Eh, I could see the Saiyans being thoroughly inbred. I mean, they do all tend to look alike.Eire wrote:If we assume that they reproduced sexually it's too low number to avoid inbreeding.

Or maybe some of them had gotten so strong that they simply defeated Freeza's troops and escaped, making it impossible to track them down. I like that theory myself.Kaboom wrote:Even if Freeza had his troops track down the survivors, it's possible that a handful of Saiyans either escaped or slipped under the radar. Herms, inbreeding or lazy animators
?
In universe explanation: they looked similar just for us, poor foreigners who can't catch the details. For themselves they were perfectly fine to recognise. Like people from Far East to Western ones.

Except that Gohan thought Turles was Goku. And Brolly thought Gohan was Goku.Eire wrote:Herms, inbreeding or lazy animators?

Of course, you also have Goku thinking Cooler was Freeza, and they look distinctly different, so maybe Saiya-jins just have horrible eye-sight.
Anyway, it's not inconcievable that Freeza issued a 'return to base' order to all Saiya-jins and Raditz just happened to be the only one late getting back (Nappa and Vegeta having been spared on purpose). Though Herms is probably right. The Saiya-jins likely just had a low population. A thousand or so people, possibly, and most were home waiting for orders.
Or celebrating some Saiya-jin holiday.

You know how many thousand of beings is? My village is about to reach it:P Roughly about 200 houses with 4 or 5 people in every one. Number of students in my school. Places in not so big hospital. And you want divide this thousand into several classes of warriors, aristocracy, staff needed to manage everything- even if we count babies, that's just impossible.

It's very possibe. Note the Bardock special, which had aliens doing stuff on Planet Vegeta, like being doctors. 1,000 Saiya-jins. 8,000 aliens to do all the non-combat stuff.Eire wrote:You know how many thousand of beings is? I was just giving those numbers as examples. We do know there are alien doctors on Planet Vegeta, so it stands to reason there are many other aliens on the planet doing various non-combat jobs, since the Saiya-jins are a combat centric race.Eire wrote:Any proves? Re: Hundreds, maybe even thousands of low-class Saiyans aliv
I disagree, because when Trunks popped up, Vegeta seemed pretty damn sure that there couldn't have been any more Saiyans survivors than them, and he must've had a good reason for that.Kaboom wrote:Even if Freeza had his troops track down the survivors, it's possible that a handful of Saiyans either escaped or slipped under the radar. Even in the manga's course of events, people like Tullece and Tarble could be out there somewhere.
I think Freeza did send out, as I like to call them, "Super Saiyan Execution Squads" to kill all the remaining Saiyans, before destroying all of the remaining ones on Planet Vegeta (who may or may not have happened to be there; Freeza could've had a way of luring the rest onto the planet). As aforementioned, Goku only survived because he was dispatched to Earth directly before Planet Vegeta's destruction. Raditz survived because...well, I don't know about that. Perhaps, as Xyex said, Raditz was late getting back to Planet Vegeta when Freeza may've issued a "return to base" order. But even afterwards, maybe both Goku and Raditz were just seen as low-class worms who made no difference whether they lived or died.
Remember, Freeza was afraid of the Saiyans ganging up on him, so perhaps he figured that just four Saiyans wouldn't do shit. Nappa may've survived because he was kept as Vegeta's bodyguard or whatever he was. And the reason Vegeta was saved was stated in the story: Freeza saw his potential and thought he could come of some use.

Hundres, maybe thousands? Where there even that many Saiyajin? I always thought there race had only a small population to being withI thought thered only be about 500-900 of them or so.
