Dragonball Kai (FUNimation English) Dub: General Discussion

I was watching the latest dubbed episode of Dragon Ball Kai Episode 68 and it seemed the dub was going good and the music placement was well until this line that made me stop and say "WHAT?!"

When Trunks sees the shell that Cell left he says this:

"Well whatever it is it smells like cheese left in the sun."

I hope that is a TV line only.

Christopher Sabat's Kami sounded off again this episode but he (Kami) is gone now so that doesn't matter anymore, and Cell speaks next episode YAY (looking forward to Daemon Clark)!

Wait, Daemon Clarke is coming back? Since when? I thought it was this Travis whats-his-name.

Daemon Clarke (I always forget the "e" at the end of his last name) posted last month on "Behind the Voice Actors" that he would be reprising his role as Cell in Kai.

That's what it was going to be, but then he got replaced. I'm rather excited for that to, I've just recently finished watching Yu Yu Hakusho again, and Dameon Clarke is an AMAZING actor (I just hope he does a different, less strained voice for Semi-Perfect Cell. To this day, I wonder why he couldn't have just used a slightly modified Toguro voice for that form of Cell rather than the strained, throaty voice he did for that form).

Still, I hope Travis is doing well now. Being replaced when you were told you got the part must stink. I've heard this is just a part of being a voice actor, but still, I heard Linda was really heartbroken about being replaced as Frieza (just something I heard from somewhere though, so don't take my word for it).

I'm pretty excited myself. I like both Japanese and English voices of Cell and I'm glad that Clarke is returning. Travis was good and all but his Cell was a impersonation of Clarke's Cell. I wonder if he'll surprise us this time around.

Quick question, what piece is the new recap music that's being used on Nicktoons (I'm not sure if its being used on Part 5) and the title card music as well. They're both excellent pieces, and even though I hated Kikuchi in English DBZ, I'm now used to it in Kai for the most part (Though I still wish Kenji didn't infriged those tracks, its his fault his awesome OST...er...ST for Kai got replaced, though I still believed TOEI/Funi could've easily took the time to find which pieces were infringed and replace them but thats a different topic)

The recap music is Piccolo's bell theme from early DBZ. Not sure about the title screen though.

It seems the title cards manage to stay the same for about an arc before changing, but there's always different recap music. I guess I'm too used to "Premonition of a Grand Adventure".

I thought the "HEAD-CHA-LA"-based recap music for Z was very well done on Kikuchi's part. He executed it very well. So I was fine with 200 episodes of the same thing, as I was for 95 of Yamamoto's recap music for Kai.
However, funrush has a point. The recap music using Kikuchi's score changes way too often, which bugs me to some extent.

I kinda like both ways. I guess by having the Kai Kikuchi changes a bit, it also adds variety to the mix.

Personally I do not like every episode having the same recap music and prefer the original DB style, but speaking of Kai with Kikuchi, THIS... phew.

Yes, it is, and I thought it was an excellent piece of recap music. Much better than all those Kikuchi pieces that they chose for the recaps.

As I recall, Dragon Ball didn't have recaps quite like Z, GT, and Kai did. But, yes, the DB style was a good one as well, but I prefer recaps mostly because of the music itself, not so much the actual recap.

Yes, but they didn't actually use that certain title card music for that episode. They used a different one. Which, in my opinion, was a nice save, because that would turn out to be terrible if the recap and title card music were the same, not to mention the recap music selection for that particular scene was terrible.

Yeah, but I figured I'd wait until someone else mentioned it.

Not very surprising, considering Strait also mispronounced Kienzan originally. Hope it gets corrected for the DVD release, but at this point I doubt it.

It's awkward that he said Kami House whereas earlier in the episode (I believe Gohan or Bulma) pronounced it right.

He's never gotten that right. Always so irritating. Why doesn't anyone correct him?
