Re: Vegeta's brown hair, Kai and Z
Makes sense. But don't you find it kind of silly just to have someone say they're all black when really it is all dark? I know they probably didn't care, and still to this day leave Vegeta, Raditz etc. with dark colours that are not actually black.

Re: Vegeta's brown hair, Kai and Z
This is basically why it's so unnoticeable. Even though someone has dark brown hair, like Vegeta, some people may make the mistake and classify is as the most logical color they can think of. In this case, that color would be black.Metalwario64 wrote:I have very dark brown hair (darker than anime Vegeta's), and I believe some people have referred to it as black before.
So mondo lame.
Re: Vegeta's brown hair, Kai and Z
Back in the day of paints and cels, they had a limited color palette. If you listen to the commentary on any of the Batman: The Animated Series commentaries, they talk about how TMS' color palette was something like 16 colors.
Bruce Timm actually laments in one commentary that they picked a weird-ass blue color for the dark shade on Robin's gloves instead of just going with black.
I imagine this is one of the reasons or similar ones are why bunch of weird colors turned up in DB and DBZ. Or at least, ultimately why some choices were made.

That makes a lot of sense actually. I'm sure there may be other reasons, like Raditz hair is blue because we don't want it blacks like Goku's etc.

What irks me the most is that in all of the recent art that comes from Toei, Vegeta's hair is purple.
Not dark brown or black, but purple. I don't get it.

Could you post the picture where you saw that? I've never noticed it before.

The recent use of purple for his hair irks me too. I like the brown though.

Brown looks badass.Chuquita wrote:The recent use of purple for his hair irks me too. I like the brown though.
For example:
It is actually almost the same shade used when he is first seen.
He was intended to always have brown hair, and on the animation cels it is very noticeable!
Purple is the colour for wanks!

Toei did this? Did Toriyama EVER draw Vegeta with purple hair? Why did they take this approach?
So mondo lame.

Re: Vegeta's brown hair, Kai and Z
Because he never had black hair to begin with?
If you look at the cel above, he was never intended by Toei to have black hair despite what Toriyama ever said.

Re: Vegeta's brown hair, Kai and Z
Well, I don't think purple would be the most logical decision to color his hair. I mean, brown is acceptable, and it looks good, but purple is just bullshit, in my opinion. It doesn't fit Vegeta at all. "Purple is the color for wanks" indeed.
And Bulma with purple hair, in my opinion, is acceptable since Toriyama's inconsistent color schemes sometimes depicted Bulma with purple hair.

Yeah, that's pretty bad. Off topic, but why in GT all of a sudden make Goku this weird brown colour? I never liked it
I guess somebody at Toei likes purple?

I know, but I'm saying, with the exception of Path to Power, the anime always depicted her with blue hair.GotenDaisuki wrote:And Bulma with purple hair, in my opinion, is acceptable since Toriyama's inconsistent color schemes sometimes depicted Bulma with purple hair.

Re: Vegeta's brown hair, Kai and Z
Considering the fact that Vegeta questioned Trunks' Saiyan heritage initially based on his purple hair, I'd say purple Vegeta hair is doubly ridiculous. It makes absolutely no sense.GotenDaisuki wrote:Well, I don't think purple would be the most logical decision to color his hair. Re: Vegeta's brown hair, Kai and Z
Yeah, that's right! I never thought about it. So, lets say DBZ was reanimated, like the intro; Vegeta was given that dumb purple colour scheme okay. There would be a couple big plot holes. For one, it is much lighter than the previous brown hair he had, so that generic statement that all Saiyan hair are roughly black. You would notice this time round that it is not!Eddie wrote:Considering the fact that Vegeta questioned Trunks' Saiyan heritage initially based on his purple hair, I'd say purple Vegeta hair is doubly ridiculous. Second would be Trunks, like you previously stated, it would be obvious!
