They kind-of did. http://kanzentai.com/dvd.php?id=db_spc
That was a one time promo though. Not an in the stores release. Like I said, Toei fears reverse importing. Do you know how many fans in Japan would by the US release and screw up Toei's possible future plans for a release at a much higher price then stateside.

Yeah. For example, Japanese fans can import the American Kai Blu-rays instead of wasting more than 10,000 yen for each Blu-ray box set in Japan.
So mondo lame.

Exactly, only difference is the Kai Blu-Rays are coming out at the same time and ahead of the Japanese release. So most people won't go searching overseas. Hardcore fans would want it ASAP, I know that I could save money on the Dragon Boxes and Kai by not ordering off of Rightstuf, but choose to get my orders faster. Then the younger fans would be too young to so something like figuring out reverse importing.

I actually went to the main pages of Kanzentai and Daizenshuu EX to see if I'd missed some major news with this.

Looks like it's just people speculating about the same vague Tweets and purchase statements?

Well, why would FUNimation Tweet that information for the set would come after the Z sets are released if they really aren't going to release this set? Yes, for right now, this thread is based on early speculation.
So mondo lame.

I think that each movie should have its own disc. 17 movies make 17 discs. And we know that 1 box has 6 discs and this mean for me that they split THE MOVIES into 3 boxsets.
The word "KAI" means in the old North Germanic language Frisian "Kämpfer engl. Fighter" respectively "Krieger engl. Warrior"!

Because it's standard marketing hush-hush. All the Tweet said was that any information regarding such a release would come after Dragon Box 7. That doesn't even remotely mean, "Hey, guys! After Dragon Box 7, expect an announcement about the movies!"

Is it totally unlikely? Not at all. But we're still pretty far from confirmation.

I just don't think they can justify this. Most DVDs are Dual Layered nowadays, so lets do the math.

Average DBZ movie: 3000 seconds (50 minutes.)
Max bitrate that a crappy DVD player from Walmart can handle: in the 9mbps range. Let's say they give 1 movie 9mbps for video and audio bitrate combined.
Dual Layered DVD: 8.5 GB.
9 megabits per 1 second.
27000 megabits per 3000 seconds.
3375 megabytes on one movie, over 5 gigabytes free space. (Not counting subtitle streams, menus, previews, or extras.)

What could they do with that space? They can't raise the bitrate, because then it won't play on my shoddy $20 player.
Nope, they put another movie on there. Logically, double features are great, but in the business world, your idea would probably be more popular.

I'll be attending the FUNi panel at Anime Expo this year, so I hope there will be some kind of announcement there.

I imagine Anime Expo is held after the release of Dragon Box 7? FUNimation stated that there will be no information about the set until after that set is released. If Anime Expo is held before the release of Dragon Box 7, there will most likely be no mention, let alone announcement, of the Movies Box.
So mondo lame.

AX'11 came and went with nothing. Hopefully something will get announced officially come Otakon.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

PERFECT!
So, yes, it is possible to fit all 13 movies in one box and make it the same size as a U.S. Dragon Box.
That would be perfect, but what about the two specials?

The Dragon Boxes were always a sort of special collector's edition release that co-existed with a more mainstream release, so I wouldn't count the possibility of a DBox movie release out just yet.

FUNimation doesn't have access to the two OVA's in general and they don't have access to the two specials in Dragon Box format. So, they cannot release the specials with Dragon Box footage in singles or the OVA's.
They could add "The History of Trunks" and Bardock specials though.

True, but I don't (know?) if they come out it will be for a while (huh?).

FUNi said they would make an announcement on DBox 7's release. I do not think they would do that just to say "Sorry guys, no more DBoxes!"
They're obviously trying to build hype.

(And, yeah, FUNi has been known to release different DB sets cocurrently. DBoxes and Kai are proof of that.)

Also, what does re-releasing the TV series on Blu-ray have to do with releasing the Dragon Box editions of the Movies? As others have mentioned, FUNi has released separate DB sets concurrently. If anything the steelbooks would be bigger causes for it not happening.

And orange brick sets... three different versions of the same show.

I dont think anyone has ever done that. Ridiculous.
