Re: Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi (Pre-Release Discussio
By looking at the trailers, gameplay footage, and overall infor we got so far, I'm having a feeling that this game isn't going to have 4-player battles like they had in Tenkaichi Tag Team and Zenkai Battle Royale.
Ehhh... oh well, but I'm still looking foward to this game. I'm so glad their finally putting giant character boss fights into the game since I've really wanted that to be in a DBZ game for quite sometime now, the graphics aren't looking too shappy either (although I rather have the Zenkai Battle Royale graphics instead), and the gameplay looks... ummm... interesting. I'll have to play the game myself to make my final thoughts on it, but at least their trying to do something different for once.
I miss Dimps.

I hate to be rude but what gameplay have you guys been watching? I may not entirely like the new direction but this is noway near the same as any of the previous games. Perhaps you three have only seen the trailers, I'd recommend watching actual gameplay.Raki wrote:I haven't bought the last three Dragonball PS3 games and I'm not even thinking about getting this one. Re: Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi (Pre-Release Discussio
I've watched the trailers AND gameplay footage and it looks like at LONG range you can shoot small ki blasts, but when you get close it turns into a 2D fighting game and there wasn't any combat . It looked like the JP arcade games where you hit 1 of 3 buttons and then that action is played out.
Whatever happened to a buttons for throwing punches and kicks? I AM...was excited with the US trailer showing Janemba and SS3 Goku, but if we don't have actual combat opposed to just hitting a few buttons, where is the point? I hope a few new gameplay videos can clear things up.
Whatever happened to nice fluid fighting with no breaks for random button pushes; and I hope supers get an explanation as well. We have only seen kamehamehas and those trigger some sort of cutscene that looks to get old after 4 seconds and whatver happened to dodging them?
EDIT: Just watched a few more gameplay videos.... I REALLY don't want to hate this game, I really don't. I was excited for the new graphics and the giants as bosses and all that...but this stopping every two seconds to push another button to keep things keep, what gives? And on the point of beams, whatever happened to just simply moving out of the way? It's yet another break in the gameplay to hit yet another button. I was SO hopeful for this game.

Yep, they sure do. That was one of the things (aside from the fighting system) that I really loved about Super DBZ: the Manga style graphics. I'm glad to see that here.Rostir wrote:The graphics look similar to Super DBZ.Super Saiyan Turlast x4 wrote:Not sure what to think right now, but I really like the way the game looks.

I honestly preferred the anime style, but this is still fine.
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

Hmmmm, interesting. Maybe I will get this game, but I'd rather have 'Zenkai Battle Royale'.

Is there a way to fight without all of the events? It seems like it can get really repetitive and annoying.LeprikanGT wrote:So wait....

Does it switch into 2D fighting when they get close to one another and what was with the stopping before attacking? That was odd.
I'm so confused, can we just not punch and kick anymore? And why does like every blast make contact and start up a little cut scene thing?
Also...the US trailer just OWNED the JP trailer.

Re: Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi (Pre-Release Discussio
I find it odd that the this game gave me a lot of things I wanted Spike to upgrade.
- Improved destruction
- Improved battle damage - Even for characters who generally just got a couple of scrapes in past games.
- Improved transformations - The one we saw for Goku looked at least a little better.
- Better graphics - Closer to series, though more like the manga this time.
- Improved effects - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V26VL7aE ... page#t=36s
- Boss battles, even against true giants.
- Improved fighting options - SOME of the new mechanic are cool. QTEs for boss battles, or this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V26VL7aE ... page#t=67s Though less cinematic.

Isn't "Ultimate Tenkaichi" the Western name for the game?
Don't forget in Japan the games where never called "Tenkaichi" It was Sparking, Sparking Neo and Sparking Meteor. It still might have nothing or less to do with Sparking to start with so stop trying to make x equal y when they don't.

Ridding of 30 characters so they can have more characters that are focused on the story doesn't equate to 1/3 of the roster being gone, not to mention that has yet to actually be confirmed. Also there is real fighting, it's just that very few of the people playing even know what they are doing.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:I find it odd that the this game gave me a lot of things I wanted Spike to upgrade. The cost? Only 1/3 of the roster and the fighting engine, the two things that used to define a Spike DBZ game. lol Hardly living up to the "Ultimate" title, and barely resembles the "Tenkaichi" either.

Also a lot of what people are seeing is actually just fancy new camera angles.

Wierd, the official website for the game still lists it as DB Project 2011 whereas some Japanese videos of the trailer for the game lists it in Japanese as ドラゴンボールアルティメット天下一 (Doragonbooru Arutematto Tenkaichi).Patient-mental wrote:Isn't "Ultimate Tenkaichi" the Western name for the game?

I'm not overly happy about them jumping on the all to monotonous quick-time-event bandwagon. Sure enough it can provide intense action during the boss battles, but when 80 percent of all fisticuffs basically just is one QTE after another it quickly starts getting repetitive.

Yes it is, but the branding should still reflect the game regardless. They're aware that the Sparking title was renamed to Tenkaichi outside Japan. If they didn't intend the game to resemble its predecessors, then they shouldn't have put Tenkaichi as an option on the English survey, its misleading. People suggested the name thinking they were getting an upgraded typical Spike game in the same vein as the Tenkaichi/Sparking and Raging Blast series, and they aren't.Patient-mental wrote:Isn't "Ultimate Tenkaichi" the Western name for the game?

That's funny seeing how the game has constantly been advertised as "more accessible". Using the excuse that people don't know what they are doing contradicts the fact that they made these changes so people unfamiliar with the game could just jump in. There doesn't seem to be anything too complex to the controls, the videos make it pretty clear what your options are during the fights, as the buttons pop up on the screen. That and almost everything is pretty much buried in cinematic QTEs, which means there is less variation between characters. They could have upped the roster by half without any problems since everyone will likely play the exact same with even less variation than they had in the Raging Blast titles (except supers and ultimates).ArchedThunder wrote:Ridding of 30 characters so they can have more characters that are focused on the story doesn't equate to 1/3 of the roster being gone, not to mention that has yet to actually be confirmed. As for getting rid of 30 character not equating to 1/3 of the roster being gone...how does it not? Last games roster was 100, they remove 30 characters for the reboot, and now we have roughly 1/3 less. It doesn't mater how you try and justify it, the numbers are still prove we have lost a 1/3 of the fighters. I know the info hasn't been confirmed, but it is what we've been told. I know we're getting back to the representatives spread misinformation, but seeing how its all we have to go by, its true until proven false.

No, all they are doing is changing camera angles to give you a better view and make it more cinematic ,and giving you button prompts for things that every one might not know how to do, such as pursuit attacks. Also it gives you a chance to break out of combos if you are stuck and aren't good at teleporting. The gameplay is still largely the same as the past games.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:Yes it is, but the branding should still reflect the game regardless. Even more so if there is just one cutscene for each animation. I could get over the repetition factor, if there were more different cutscenes for an action. But that's just the beginning we have seen. Time will tell..Shoryuken wrote:Sure enough it can provide intense action during the boss battles, but when 80 percent of all fisticuffs basically just is one QTE after another it quickly starts getting repetitive.

I wish they wouldchange it but I know they won't. They are making it too much like the arcade games where there isn't any real combat; just a choice of three buttons to hit every few minutes. It's a shame too, this game started out looking way ahead of the rest.
