Most Interesting fan theory you have ever heard?
I always liked the one that said 17 and 18 were more evil in Trunk's timeline because Goku let Freeza's henchmen go and one of them killed their parents. What ones do you guys remember?

Re: Most Interesting fan theory you have ever heard?
The reason dead bad guys have bodies in the anime is that rather than physical bodies, they're actually got a sort of astral body, which are made out of ki (a similar sort of thing exists in Yu Yu Hakusho, though it's somewhat glossed over in the anime version). By extension, Freeza, Cell, et al aren't as strong dead as they were alive because they had to put a lot of ki towards making those bodies, and they're not as good as regular ones. Someone on the Anime Nation forums put his fan theory forward back when I was first getting into the series, and it's always kind of stuck with me. It does seem to mesh well with DBZ movie 12, where Vegeta gets a body due to Janenba messing with the afterlife, despite being dead and in Hell, but then when Janenba is defeated he turns directly into a shapeless spirit. The guy who explained it also tried to claim that Paikuhan wasn't really stronger than Freeza and only beat him because Freeza was weaker dead, which is pretty silly, but might work better with Cell.

I certainly don't agree with it, but I can see where the appeal lies in such an idea. Very interesting indeed.Herms wrote:The reason dead bad guys have bodies in the anime is that rather than physical bodies, they're actually got a sort of astral body, which are made out of ki (a similar sort of thing exists in Yu Yu Hakusho, though it's somewhat glossed over in the anime version). Re: Most Interesting fan theory you have ever heard?
I haven't heard too many fan theories about in-universe DB, but I recall thinking up a few about some of the certian qualities in alternate English dubs.
1) Since no one really figured out what was up with the Hanna-Barbera SFX in Ocean/Pioneer DBZ Movies, I tried thinking about it for a but, and thought up the idea that they were added in either to add some "Stereo" sound effects (Because it'd be weird to only have stereo voice work), or to mask the aged, low-quality masters of the original BGM and effects track. I do think hearing a notable difference in audio quality between the voice acting and the BGM/music can be a bit "strange" at times - in particular, check the Dead Zone scenes where Goku rushes into Garlic Jr.'s base upon hearing that Gohan is in there, or when Garlic Jr.'s holding Kami over a cliff. Both of these have dramatic music cues in the JP BGM, but in the dubs the low-quality masters give us scratchy-sounding songs that sound unusually dated compared to the voice work. Also, the scenes with the -most- Hanna-Barbera SFX? The Gohan insert songs "Tenka-Ichi Gohan" and "Piccolo-san Daisuki". The SFX were likely added to these scenes to make them seem more eventful without requiring dubbing the music, similar to how FUNi's UUE added a lot of Gohan yapping.
2) I still haven't found much info on actual credits/company info for the DBZ movie dubs distributed by Speedy in Malaysia. I want to go with the idea that they were dubbed by an internal Toei division and are examples of the infamous "reference material" other companies complain that Toei gives them in such terrible quality, but I think to do that I'd want to compare the dub to various Godzilla dubs. Does anyone have any quick videos of some of their "worst" moments?

I've never heard this before, but I find it extremely hilarious.Kroni_Hunter wrote:I always liked the one that said 17 and 18 were more evil in Trunk's timeline because Goku let Freeza's henchmen go and one of them killed their parents. What ones do you guys remember?
Re: Most Interesting fan theory you have ever heard?
The best one I've heard is, by far, the theory from Cipher regarding GT's finale, detailing why and how Goku survived to finish off Yi Xing Long and then was taken away by Shenlong.

I guess I'm going to turn that around and say I'm a fan of Kaboom's explanations regarding Super Saiyan 3 and 4.
It's not the first time I've seen it, but that's probably the best written version. It's obviously not what Toriyama nor, likely, the writers at Toei intended, but it doesn't clash with the series and actually makes things much more interesting and clear, which is pretty much the most you can ask when someone else is postulating about fictional devices. I know I always watch the series with that in mind now.

Re: Most Interesting fan theory you have ever heard?
An interesting theory I came up with when I was younger was that the sword 'Future Trunks' uses was the sword that Gohan had during his training with Piccolo. Later on I realized how short Gohan's sword is.
Re: Most Interesting fan theory you have ever heard?
Goku had a staff that could change size; who's to say Piccolo couldn't make a sword that could do so? ^_^DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote:An interesting theory I came up with when I was younger was that the sword 'Future Trunks' uses was the sword that Gohan had during his training with Piccolo. Never mind that we never see it changing size for Gohan _or_ Trunks, but still...!

An oldie but a goldie; If Mystic Gohan were to turn into a Super Saiyan, the sudden release of such a burst of ki would be so great that it would destroy the world. If he were to go Super Saiyan 2, it'd destroy the entire Northern Galaxy.

Yup. My other favorite was something about Gogeta's odd SSJ4 color was because he was actually a SSJ5. There's nothing to prove that, just like with the Mystic SSJ Gohan theory, but I'm entertained by them for some reason.

One of the many I like to make up is that Bulma tried to get help from the nameks in the future timeline, but couldn't because they were destroyed by Coola.

Well I think SSJ4 is the TRUE legendary SSJ form, or at least retcons Broly.

Bulma was impregnated by a Namekian and that's why Trunks came out with purple hair.

Actually, I find it more humorous to believe that Trunks' hair became purple because Bulma sometimes has blue hair, and Vegeta sometimes, though not usually, has red hair, and when they got together they happened to have those hair colors that night, and red and blue make...Nazi Cola wrote:Bulma was impregnated by a Namekian and that's why Trunks came out with purple hair.
... (this is completely ignoring the more plausible and obvious explanation that he simply inherited Bulma's canon hair color, which is, well, purple.)

I wonder how that theory accounts for Trunks being part Saiyan.Nazi Cola wrote:Bulma was impregnated by a Namekian and that's why Trunks came out with purple hair.

It was a great party and Trunks should feel lucky that he doesn't bark.
I've seen a nice ff based on idea that part of Baby experiment went out of control and ironically was the cause of Tsufurian's extinction. King Vegeta went to conquer empty cities.

Does anyone have the actual explanation as to why Trunks' hair is purple? I still think it's weird that Burma and Veg-eta had a kid and we never saw what happened in between the training montage like during the Garlic Jr. Saga.KiddoCabbusses wrote:Actually, I find it more humorous to believe that Trunks' hair became purple because Bulma sometimes has blue hair, and Vegeta sometimes, though not usually, has red hair, and when they got together they happened to have those hair colors that night, and red and blue make...Nazi Cola wrote:Bulma was impregnated by a Namekian and that's why Trunks came out with purple hair.
