Toteppo's hair is wrong, too. Maybe Bardock has a very bad memory?

Re: Ooishi Doing V-Jump Manga: Episode of Bardock

Seems we get a new Freeza card featuring some background Chilled artwork in the new Saikyou Jump. The announcement for the next magazine featured Goku and SS Goku in Ooishi's SD art, and Bardock in her normal art. What this means, I have no idea...I figured this might be relavent here as well as the Heroes and SD3 topics, seeing as it involves Chilled and Bardock in some capacity.

Mangastream.com just posted their Scanlation of Episode of Bardock #1 - it's higher quality than most scans, no offense to anyone! :p
Re: Ooishi Doing V-Jump Manga: Episode of Bardock
Freeza
Death Ball
- When Freeza's Mortal Finisher is invoked in suite of a successful Burst, increase the damage dealt to Enemy!
- Furthermore, if Super Burst is invoked, decrease an attacking Enemy's Power by 500!
Get this card so you can make use of Freeza's Burst ability!
Doesn't really mention Chilld. Cool Heroes card, though.

Sorry, stupid question here and it might have been answered before a lot of times.
I know Naho made this but did Toriyama have any involvement with this? .. and is this considered canon? Thanks.

From my view it seems Heroes functions as a separate universe, but somehow similar to the Online universe, in which people travel through time to help on key events in Dragon Ball history.

Normal DB Universe = Ruled by fightingDNA wrote:From my view it seems Heroes functions as a separate universe, but somehow similar to the Online universe, in which people travel through time to help on key events in Dragon Ball history.
DB Online = Ruled by role-plays and tactical decisions
DB Heroes = Ruled by kids at the arcades and their cards
Goku: "Freeza! I will ... never forgive you!!"
Freeza: "What?!"
*Nothing happens*
Player: "Shiiiieeeetttt ... Left the SSJ card at home .... Someone put some Yen in; New Challenger plz plz plz plz plz or I'm screwwwweeeeddd."
But yeah, that just seemed like a Chilld cameo on some recent promo material. Heroes is pretty popular at the arcades over there right now, so it'd make sense that they'd shove all their promos on it now. Remember, Chilld (or, his design) is a race or something in Heroes, so it doesn't have to involve Freeza directly ... if that makes any sense.

Huh? I'm pretty positive that the Freeza race characters are descendants of Freeza since their official name is "Freeza's clan."NeoKING wrote:But yeah, that just seemed like a Chilld cameo on some recent promo material. That doesn't mean they're descended from, just that they're part of his extended family. Chilled, for instance, could very well be some ancestor of Freeza's, since he appears in the distant past.Luke Groundwalker wrote:Huh? Re: Ooishi Doing V-Jump Manga: Episode of Bardock
Yeah, they're descendants but they may not have direct relationships ala Freeza and King Cold's. I'm just saying that putting Chilld there just seems like advertising for the Freeza Clan/Bardock manga tie-in, and Chilld may not have anything to do with Freeza himself.Luke Groundwalker wrote:Huh? Re: Ooishi Doing V-Jump Manga: Episode of Bardock
Eh I dunno, I don't think there really is any other reason for his existence other than to be an ancestor to Freeza. Even Bardock calls him Freeza in this manga. I mean it's possible I guess, but from what the manga and this new card implies, it probably isn't the case.NeoKING wrote:Yeah, they're descendants but they may not have direct relationships ala Freeza and King Cold's. Re: Ooishi Doing V-Jump Manga: Episode of Bardock
No such thing as canon for Dragon Ball, only continuity. That said, all we know is Toriyama designed Chilled and that it is said to be a sequel to the Bardock TV Special...Jaetinh wrote:I know Naho made this but did Toriyama have any involvement with this? .. and is this considered canon? Thanks.
The page that listed the members of the race when Episode of Bardock came out had, didn't it have something akin to "Who is this and what is his relation to Freeza?!". It is possible Chilled isn't related to them, but it seems the whole special was designed to have Bardock become an SS in the past and take out one of Freeza's ancestors, causing even more of a reason for the races to feud. If he wasn't related to Freeza, why ask Toriyama to design him? To me, anything would have worked if you just wanted another member of the race. You only ask the creator to do a new design when you want to stick close to his imagining of what the family looks like.NeoKING wrote:But yeah, that just seemed like a Chilld cameo on some recent promo material. That and I see the card as nothing more than a teaser, or a warm up. Recent trailer confirmed Chilled is coming to Heroes, in about 9 days if I remember correctly. It makes some sense to put him on something to get some hype going...or let those who didn't know start thinking about the possibility.
Re: Ooishi Doing V-Jump Manga: Episode of Bardock
So I just read it. I liked it a lot. Simple and fun. And, not gonna lie, I smirked at the complete disregard for Toei's interpretation of Planet Plant. One thing that bugged me was the small fight scene. Bardock's kick on Kyabira; I felt zero impact from it via the art, and the speedlines were completely straight. It looked rather odd.
I guess it's impossible to know how much Toriyama was involved. He's got his usual "orginal concept" credit, but now with an extra "director" credit. I guess Naho wrote it, and he approved character designs and other little things? I'm not keeping up with Dragon Ball Heroes, so I don't know if these new characters have already shown up there yet.
I like these little nuggets we've been getting, and I think I may prefer them to a fullblown new series.

Who wouldn't? MangaStream also did chapter two a few hours ago, if anyone wants to know.I like these little nuggets we've been getting, and I think I may prefer them to a fullblown new series.

Re: Ooishi Doing V-Jump Manga: Episode of Bardock
The art in SD is still pretty cute. I liked Goku and Vegeta's reactions to Cell regurgitating 18 and 17. Goku not dying at the end does really show this is for littler kids, but I still like the happier ending note for the AU. I'm interested to see if they will do a Buu arc one.
As for Episode of Bardock; it's still not grabbing me. I can see how it would be interesting, but I'm finding I just don't care as much. ^^;; Maybe it's because Planet Plant's had its history re-written several times over the course of the series' existence. I really think that's it because typically I enjoy time-travel stories. I still like the idea of a Bardock spin-off though.

On hiatus.
Re: Ooishi Doing V-Jump Manga: Episode of Bardock
The art is okay and I still believe the artist is improving. But then again I did little more than just breeze through the chapter. It really isn't for me
.
I can't help but notice how Ooishi gets to do more and more DB stuff lately. First the the special from 2008, then DB SD and now close behind, the Bardock special. I wonder if she really is meant to replace Toriyama in terms of manga-version DB releases.

Re: Ooishi Doing V-Jump Manga: Episode of Bardock
I think chilled is either Frieza's mother or Grandfather.
Re: Ooishi Doing V-Jump Manga: Episode of Bardock
Toriyama mentioned at some point that Freeza's grandfather was the first mutant in the family.
So perhaps Chilled is Cold's father? Of course if that was the case they would have quite a lifespan.

Wait what? Was is this talk about mutants?Fox666 wrote:Toriyama mentioned at some point that Freeza's grandfather was the first mutant in the family.

And yeah I assumed Chilled is probably meant to be Cold's father and that they do indeed have an enormous lifespan. Also I'm thinking that maybe they're not a race but just a family, kinda like the space tanookis late in GT.
