That's weird...Normally the volume gets released before Fnac lists it
Still, mediabooks always has it for pre-order 2 weeks before....I guess the release just took a vacation then

Bye bye "Coraçãozinho de Satã", hello Piccolo!
I was hoping for Piccolo Daimao, but I guess that the translated "Grande Rei do Mal" ("Great Evil/Demon King") isn't that bad.

Fuck yeah! I don't which made me more excited, seeing the listing or seeing Piccolo
By the way, what's this deal about the release maybe stopping after 16? Because stopping in the middle of the more popular part of the series doesn't seem to make all that much sense

They might use it as "Piccolo Daimao, also known as the great demon king/king of evil" in the actual volume.omegalucas wrote:Bye bye "Coraçãozinho de Satã", hello Piccolo!

If it stops in the 16th volume, that's in the end of the first series, not really in the middle of a saga (unless they put the first chapter(s) of the Saiyan saga, that'd be stupid if they we're going to stop there). But I doubt it. Well, I hope they're going to do it all.Rukura wrote:Fuck yeah! I don't which made me more excited, seeing the listing or seeing Piccolo![]()

ASA got/has the rights (and means) to release the first 16 volumes.Rukura wrote:By the way, what's this deal about the release maybe stopping after 16? Because stopping in the middle of the more popular part of the series doesn't seem to make all that much sense
They didn't get all of the 42 volumes right away because, honestly, we never know how a release will do in the sales, especially in Portugal.
Therefore, they got the first 16 volumes and, if its financially viable, if there is profit to be made, they will probably release the rest.
The 16th volume is a natural milestone since its where the first anime series ends. That was probably why they chose that number.
Anyway, if they release all the first 16 volumes, its already a good sign because if the manga wasn't selling at all they probably wouldn't even release what they expected to release.
Of course this leaves one question... If they release volumes past the 16th, will they release them as Dragon Ball Z like Viz, or continue to release them as simply Dragon Ball?
They are doing the same thing with Yu-gi-oh! by the way. This 7th volume was the last volume of the first series of Yu-Gi-Oh! manga, according to the american naming scheme. The second Yu-Gi-Oh! manga series is called "duelist" in America. ASA is apparently doing the same and they will release the second series if the first does well enough. The 7th volume is also a good milestone because after that volume the whole manga becomes centered in one single game, "dueling monsters".
(To be clearer, in America, Yu-Gi-Oh! is divided in three series, even though originally it was just one: Yu-Gi-Oh! (7 volumes), Yu-Gi-Oh!: Duelist (24 volumes) and Yu-Gi-Oh!: millennium world (7 volumes). In Japan it was just Yu-Gi-Oh! (38 volumes).

I suppose they'll stick with Dragon Ball and Yu-Gi-Oh! as titles, since they have been replicating (very well) the japanese cover style so far.

<3 "Piccolo" and <3 "O Grande Rei do Mal." That's a very straight translation of Daimaō for all that's worth. Yay for not leaving stuff untranslated and yay for no dubisms.
Good work, ASA. Now all that's left to be known are Saiyans and God.

I bet Saiyans will be either "Saiyanos" (or Saianos), "Saiyans" or "Saiya(-)jins". God will be either "Kami(-sama)" or "Deus".

If they stop there for THAT reason, then i totally undertand.rereboy wrote:ASA got/has the rights (and means) to release the first 16 volumes.

Which brings me to my point. Since ASA has been replicating the manga's presentation straight from the japanese release it's NOT a natural milestone, because it'll still go into (what would be in the anime) the "Z" portion. VIZ is the one that decided to split up volume 16.rereboy wrote:The 16th volume is a natural milestone since its where the first anime series ends. That was probably why they chose that number.
If they decide to stop the Dragon Ball and Yu-Gi-Oh! release because it just wasn't doing that well, i will begrudgingly accept it. But the fact here is that both Dragon Ball volume 16 and Yu-Gi-Oh! volume 7 stop right in the beginning of a new saga...

That is true for Yu-Gi-Oh, since volume 7 includes the first chapter of the new arc.Rukura wrote:If they decide to stop the Dragon Ball and Yu-Gi-Oh! release because it just wasn't doing that well, i will begrudgingly accept it. That is not the case for Dragon Ball. Volume 16 ends with Goku leaving with Chichi after defeating Piccolo and refusing Kami's offer of becoming the new God. It almost seems like a possible end for the entire series. And this is why its a natural milestone. It has nothing to do with Viz or the anime. The story and the contents of that particular Volume is what makes it a natural milestone.
If ASA doesn't release any more volumes after that volume, at least there wouldn't be anything hanging at all. Which is why its a perfect milestone. Its possibly the best point to stop the series besides the actual end.
So, its only natural for ASA to plan to release the first 16 volumes, and then see how it did before releasing more, given how Volume 16 acts like a perfect milestone.
Yu-Gi-Oh's Volume 7 isn't like that because it included the first chapter of the new arc. It leaves things hanging. However, its still a logical milestone since its in Volume 8 that the focus of the series changes. To be a perfect milestone, that last chapter should have been included in Volume 8, but that's not how it was in the original Taukobon and both Viz and ASA know better than to change the chapters that the original Taukobon has.

In the Dragon Ball japanese release, like Yu-Gi-Oh! Vol 7, DB Volume 17 has the first Saiyan saga chapter.

Re: Portuguese Dragon Ball Tankoubon Edition *On Going* - Re
Unless I'm misreading things, there seems to be some misinformation here.
Japanese volume 16 had chapters 181-192. 192 is near the end of the Gokuu vs Piccolo match, but it's not the conclusion.
Japanese volume 17 had chapters 193-204. 193 and 194 featured the conclusion of the match and had Gokuu and Chichi fly away together. Then 195 started the Saiyan arc with Raditz and the farmer.
So if they really mirror the Japanese books, 16 won't be a perfect ending place.
Viz threw 193 and 194 onto the end of their DB 16, then started their DBZ 1 (17) with 195.

Re: Portuguese Dragon Ball Tankoubon Edition *On Going* - Re
What happened is that i totally messed myself up and got volumes mixed up, because (as TripleRach pointed out with the chapter count) what happened is that VIZ included the first chapter of Volume 17 on Volume 16, which is why they had such a clean split to call the rest "Dragon Ball Z".rereboy wrote:Volume 16 ends with Goku leaving with Chichi after defeating Piccolo and refusing Kami's offer of becoming the new God. Which means that, since they are replicating the japanese release, the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai will be probably be left hanging unless they release volume 17.....which ITSELF is 90% saiyan saga already. So if they want to release something with an ending.....they have to get to 42
Here's hoping!

In fact, tankoubon 16 ends with Piccolo firing his finishing attack at the immobilized Goku. Pretty crappy place to leave off.
I suppose they could pull a Kai and leave off at volume 35.Rukura wrote:So if they want to release something with an ending.....they have to get to 42![]()

Oh god, i don't even want to think of the possibility of them pulling a Kai with the actual manga lolHerms wrote:I suppose they could pull a Kai and leave off at volume 35.
If they get to 35, though, the other ones will be sure to follow afterwards. This 16/17 deal seems to be the "make or break" for the release...somehow....God, i hope not.

Ahhhhh... I had no idea. I have the Viz release, I was under the impression that Volume 16 was correct. Well, that clarifies things.TripleRach wrote:Unless I'm misreading things, there seems to be some misinformation here.

Well then, I guess that Viz really doesn't know better than to mess with the contents of the volumes
