Why didn't Pan go SSJ?
I did a search on this topic and nothing came up, so... ya. Why didn't Pan go SSJ? I honestly think that that Idea alone had more potential than SSJ4. I'm not very impressed by SSJ 4. First of all, we we never see Goku make the transformation as an adult, and when he finally does make the transformation, it seems almost weak in my opinion. I guess I just didn't fall for the hype. Now if Pan had gone SSJ, then that would be an entirely new story! So what do you guys think?

Re: Why didn't Pan go SSJ?
It is kind of interesting that she never becomes Super Saiyan in GT, because the first Perfect Files book's section on Super Saiyans has a sidebar noting that she and Bra can potentially becomes ones and might when some big danger threatens the Earth. So it sounds like they might have had plans to that effect, but didn't ultimately go through with them for whatever reason. Maybe it's something they would have done if GT's ratings had been good enough for it to go on longer than it did.

Um, yes obviously? Anyways, yes I had already researched this and I found that Pan and Bra had the potential to go SSJ. I don't really care about Bra, though. I don't like her that much.Super Vegito wrote:GT.

I used to wonder this myself, but it's not like plain ol' Super Saiyans were actually useful for anything in GT anyway. Even if she had transformed, the big villain would have knocked her out the way so Goku could save the day.

Yes this is true, although Pan proved more helpful than what I thought she would be. I think that she should have particularly transformed during the Black Star Dragonball saga. She probably would have used her powers to make things more interesting.Bussani wrote:I used to wonder this myself, but it's not like plain ol' Super Saiyans were actually useful for anything in GT anyway. I like to think that we were supposed to see a lot of things in GT, SSJ Pan and more Redict/Ledgic being a couple of 'em, but ratings screwed 'em up.

A relevant example; Goku Jr. and Vegeta Jr. were able to transform into SSJ like nothing ("I can make my hair yellow" "Oh yeah, me too"), yet they were only... 1/16th of a saiyan? And Goku Jr. is a decendant of Pan, who never even turned SSJ, and I doubt Pan's child did either.
So I don't think it's worth trying to make sense of it all. Goku was GT's focus, as people have established before. Plus having Pan go SSJ wouldn't make much of a difference, in a universe where SSJ3/4 Goku isn't enough. She'd get thrown around like the rest of the Z fighters. Majuub was barely worth anything

But Pan not becoming a Super Saiyan isn't something that doesn't make sense. There's nothing that says "Pan must be able to transform into a Super Saiyan". An in-universe explanation could be simply be the fact that she's female.Super Vegito wrote:Sorry, what I meant was GT doesn't make a whole lot of sense as it is.

Re: Why didn't Pan go SSJ?
Herms cited official publication that they could, so that isn't a reason. Not everything all possibilities are used- I was told to be a good archer, but lack of time, will, motivation, training and focusing on other skills caused that I'm not female Robin Hood
The simplest explanation would be the fact that it wasn't necessarily for the plot. Since all GT all characters development is about all cast becoming Goku's cheerleaders I wouldn't expect anything like that happen.

Re: Why didn't Pan go SSJ?
Actually, they were 1/64 in the original, as Pan said that se is Goku Jr.'s great-great-grandmother, which makes him 1/64 Saiyan, and probably Vegeta Jr. too.Super Vegito wrote:Goku Jr. and Vegeta Jr. were able to transform into SSJ like nothing ("I can make my hair yellow" "Oh yeah, me too"), yet they were only... 1/16th of a saiyan?
On topic, to become SSJ, you must be strong enough, have pure heart and get very angry and release it with a bam(like Goku said). Pan didn't have a reason to get as angry as Goku was when he became one. And... she didn't seemed to me very pure hearted in GT...
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.
Re: Why didn't Pan go SSJ?
I like to think that if GT continued, Pan would've have eventually become a SSJ. I always thought it was little unfair that Trunks and Goten were able to turn SSJ so easily but when it comes to Bra and Pan they're stuck in their base forms for the entirety of GT. What's the deal with that? For the longest time I thought it was because saiyan girls couldn't turn SSJ.
Vegeta certainly wasn't pure of heart when he became a SSJ. He did mention that he was pure evil. Maybe you have to be 100% innocent or an evil son-of-a-bitch to reach that level.DBZGTKOSDH wrote:Actually, they were 1/64 in the original, as Pan said that se is Goku Jr.'s great-great-grandmother, which makes him 1/64 Saiyan, and probably Vegeta Jr. too.

Re: Why didn't Pan go SSJ?
I'm surprised people are still bringing the pure of heart thing into the conditions of going SSJ, as it's been proven to be nothing more than a stupid assumption later in the series.

Re: Why didn't Pan go SSJ?
I actually don't even believe in that pure heart rule. When Goku made his big speech after he first transformed into a Super Saiyan, he obviously wouldn't have known about the conditions for becoming a Super Saiyan, since he'd only just transformed for the first time, and he wasn't even clear on what a Super Saiyan was supposed to be in the first place.
Then the second instance of the pure heart rule being stated, when Kuririn questions how Vegeta can become a Super Saiyan. Kuririn was dead when Goku made his speech, nor did we see Goku ever tell them about it after he came back to Earth, and after the three years training for the Androids, Kuririn comments on how much Gohan has grown and Goku mentions something like, "What's with the long face, Kuririn? Not happy to see after all this time?"

Which sounds a bit sexist, implying that females are weaker, or incapable. So without taking the female factor into account, she should have been able to transform, if Goku and Vegeta Jr. could. And that's where it doesn't make sense.

Re: Why didn't Pan go SSJ?
I really don't believe there's much to think about, if she is able to transform into a SSJ, we just don't know, because it was never mentioned, and it never happened. Maybe the writers didn't want it to happen? The reason why could be speculated for decades.
