Namekians and their puns

Post by Chibi Mystic Gohan » Wed Nov 23, 2005 3:12 pm

Alright, well, we know of Piccolo and his instrument-themed gang, Katattsu and Muuri make Katatsumuri (snail), Cargo would be escargo, and Namekkuseijin is obviously a pun of Namekuji (slug).
There are a couple that I don't know, though. Dende and Tsuuno (one of the villiage elders). Those are the only other named Namekians I can think of. Does anyone know their puns?

I know Dende is "dendenmushi" ( 蝸牛【でんでんむし】 ) which is "snail" as well.
Where's the beef?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Tsuno mean horn in Japanese? :? You forgot Nail which is obviously Snail without the S.
I really, really need to get back into the habit of posting.

Think of an antenna as being a really soft horn, and it makes more sense.

Why do people like removing me from stuff?

Anyway, it goes without saying that the villain of Movie 4's name fits in the general theme.
Battle High 2, starring Kyle Hebert as well as myself, has been released on Xbox 360, OUYA, PC, Linux, Mac, and Xbox One!

And is a great testament to the originality of the story and characters :P.

Muuri, Dende, Cargo, Katattsu, Nail, and Tsuuno are the only named Namekians I'm aware of. Well, adding in Saichourou (of course), but we don't know if he has a true Namekian name or not.

That's HILARIOUS.

Anyway, I didn't even notice that (Nail is Snail without the S) until it was mentioned here. But then again, I didn't even know the whole thing about namek and slug pun. I don't know anything about this sort of stuff. I feel so uneducated on this forum. :P

Doesn't Saichourou mean 'great elder' or something like that? Muuri's the Namekseijin who re-created the Nameksei Dragonballs, right?

Definatlely. I've always wondered how Toriyama-sensei gave his characters such funny names. I mean Bra, Trunks...the list goes on. Atleast Saban didn't translate the names when they brought over DBZ...we'd have Super Saiyan Rice and A small blad fighter named Chestnut.

I was actually making fun of DBZ movie 4 with that comment :P.

The whole Namekian puns are based on slugs/snails, right? Well... uhh... Slug's name... *IS*... Slug :P. Where-as the other names had some sort of thought to them, that one was pretty damn basic ^^.

So true. Could you imagine if they didn't do that with every pun-name?

Radditz: "Carrot! I am your big brother, Raddish! You and I are members of the now nearly extinct warrior race of Vegetables!"

Krillin: "Ooooookay, somebody's Fruit Loops!"

Radditz: "No! Not cereal, Vegetables!"

Bebi: MWAHAHWMA! I'm the last of the Fruit race and I'll destroy you Vegetable fools!

Goku: You're a monster! Get out of Vegetable's boy, now! I guess it's time to go Super Vegetable 3!

 Not as funny as Dayspring's, but what the hell.

'Tis true. Look at your sig for further proof: the plural of a ring is "rings," yet they chose to call the movie "ring 2" or, in other words, "rings without the S."

On-topic: Why the hell weren't we given Kami's original name?! He should have remembered when he refused, damn it!

I actually loved that part. It was the most emotional, yet stoic scene I'v ever seen.

Though I've seen almost exclusivly dub. The shame, the shame.

Anyway, what was Pouranga's pun? I thought it was something about a snail.

"Saichourou" means "Eldest." It's more of a title than a name, and since Muri inherits it when the Eldest dies, one could infer that we are never given Saichourou's Namekian name.

Yes. I know. Thus my saying that we don't know what his true Namekian name is/would-be :P.
