Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
I was mainly getting at the notion that the Orange Bricks are for dub fans. Which ones exactly? Nostalgia was certainly a factor in their success, but mostly from vague memories of those who watched DBZ when they were younger. I mean the dub(s) that was on TV isn't even completely on it. There's the replacement of the Ocean-cast for the first two "seasons" and music, plenty of line changes later on. Why should dub fans automatically mean FUNi in-house dub fans?

Well, you were talking about all these other dubs, and I was saying that the Funi dub is the only dub on the Dragon Boxes.AgitoZ wrote:I was mainly getting at the notion that the Orange Bricks are for dub fans. Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
I think the DBOXs main advantage is having the original masters which are better quality even if their only 480p. Though if the BRs had DBOX masters (then again I'm not the expert on film masters so maybe they would look worse if they were scanned at 1080p.)Corpsecreate wrote:As much as I would like the Dragon Box's to be the best looking release, it cant be.
At this point, it looks like the Blu-Rays have no quality disadvantage over the Dragon Box. It is 1080p with corrected colors, removed jitter, with more image visible and without the black border buffer present in some of the Dragon Box episodes. Image quality wise I believe the Blu-Rays will be the best, features/collector value wise, the Dragon Box sets are king.
Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
At that point doesn't it become more about what resolution the restoration was completed at rather than the original scan? They could have done the work in 480 but the raw scans are of higher quality. God I don't know.
[quote="Brakus"]For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". I think the Orange Bricks did have the right animations for the openings (and the ending animations don't change so the point is moot there).JulieYBM wrote:... or the proper animation for the openings, endings...

The Orange Bricks didn't have the first Cha-La, I think. Also, the credits were the same in EVERY SINGLE EPISODE on the Japanese angle.
I requested this earlier, but nobody responded. Does anyone at least have the UUC version of the Nappa shot? I honestly think the possibly excessive grain structure is very reminiscent of it.

Well, movie 1 definitely had the first Cha-la animation, except for the "capsule flying towards the screen" part. Not sure about the bricks.

Whoops. By 'animation', I meant 'credits'. The credits are obviously hard printed onto the film for each episode, so they become a part of the animation. Considering that each episode has its own set of credits, they have their own specific 'animation'.Puto wrote:I think the Orange Bricks did have the right animations for the openings (and the ending animations don't change so the point is moot there).JulieYBM wrote:... or the proper animation for the openings, endings...

Well, actually, every episode uses the EXACT same animation, credits and all, until they make a slight change. Episodes 21-119, for example, all had the exact same opening animation.JulieYBM wrote:Whoops. By 'animation', I meant 'credits'. Changed the wording of my post. Babysitting's made me a little scatter-brained.
To recap: the credits (which are changed for each episode to reflect staff) are applied to the animation. They're not like the soft-subs on a DVD or Blu-ray, so you can't turn them off, which means they're litterally a part of the animation for each individual episode. FUNimation's not going to include the original animations (credits) anymore (like their releases for Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT on Blu-ray), so obviously it won't be the completed episodes with all of their animation.
Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Well, yeah, that's what I mean. Every episode animation had the same credits. The ending is a different story, but the opening credits are the same generic credits every episode (Original Story, Series Director, Production, OP and ED song info, etc). On the DBox, every opening animation from episodes 21-119 looks EXACTLY the same. Same colors, framing, text, etc. For the EDs, the colors may vary a bit from episode to episode, but the OPs are identical.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to make credits softsubbed since it's very much possible with fansubs.JulieYBM wrote:jjgp1112 wrote: Well, actually, every episode uses the EXACT same animation, credits and all, until they make a slight change. Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Interesting things I noticed when comparing Dragon Box to Remastered Sets:
1. The Intermission Scene/Eye Catch is a different scene for every episode in both sets. Different in the sense that they go for different lengths and have slightly different coloring. The Remastered sets intermission are also always longer than the DBOX sets.
2. After the Title Cards, the Remastered Sets ALWAYS have 1 extra frame than the Dragon Box sets up to the intermission.
3. The Remastered sets usually have additional frames (repeated frames) at the end of each episode because the announcer is still speaking. In some cases the Remastered sets have less frames at the end.

Why would you want to, though? They're part of the show. Also, I rarely trust player-generated text to not look like player-generated text.sangofe wrote: I don't see why you wouldn't be able to make credits softsubbed since it's very much possible with fansubs.
Do you follow the most comprehensive and entertaining Dragon Ball analysis series on YouTube? If you do, you're smart and awesome and fairly attractive. If not, see what all the fuss is about without even having to leave Kanzenshuu:

I'm a bit confused when you write "remastered" sets? Which remastered sets? The season sets, the ultimate uncut sets, or did you magically see the remastered Blu-Ray sets?Corpsecreate wrote:Interesting things I noticed when comparing Dragon Box to Remastered Sets:

Not to mention that's a little hard to do with a show that's been fully produced for fifteen years...Gaffer Tape wrote:Why would you want to, though? They're part of the show. Personally, I'd like to see fully translated OP/ED credits like in the Kai discs, instead of just leaving everything textless.
