Redubbing Dragon Ball
What do you guys think if Funimation redubbed all 153 episodes of the original Dragon Ball? And by "redubbing", I mean adding in new voices and making a more accurate script.

Re: Redubbing Dragon Ball
It won't happen. It won't happen for the same reason that a redub of DBZ and GT won't happen--it's financially impractical. Not only would it take a lot of time and money to redub an entire series, taking into account that you'd need to hire the directors, writers, actors, and audio technicians, but it would also piss a lot of the fandom off who like the existing dub. The only people who would buy the redub are the "hardcore" fans, and fans who generally prefer the Japanese version anyway and just want a more loyal English dub for the sake of having one, not actually wanting to watch it.
It would be nice, and would make sense from an artistic standpoint, but it would make no sense whatsoever from a business standpoint.

A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

I want a more accurate dub so that we don't have to have threads like this all the darn time, but I guess to fix that we'd need both an accurate dub and a time machine to get rid of the old one entirely.TheBlackPaladin wrote:The only people who would buy the redub are the "hardcore" fans, and fans who generally prefer the Japanese version anyway and just want a more loyal English dub for the sake of having one, not actually wanting to watch it.
But yeah, almost certainly not going to happen in any way, shape, or form.

Or maybe have the KanzenshuuEX wiki up already which would be free of dubisms.Herms wrote: I want a more accurate dub so that we don't have to have threads like this all the darn time, but I guess to fix that we'd need both an accurate dub and a time machine to get rid of the old one entirely.

If you're not here soon... GET ON!
Re: Redubbing Dragon Ball
I personally wouldn't care, FUNimation's dub of Dragon Ball is already good enough.
Re: Redubbing Dragon Ball
I think USA's the only country on this blue planet that's even gotten part of DBZ re-dubbed, and then people talk about lesser popular series like DB and DBGT getting re-dubbed? Come on people, get real!

Re: Redubbing Dragon Ball
Why does a topic like this come up every week? Don't get me wrong we would all like redubs of Dragon Ball, DBZ, and DBGT, but it's just not gonna happen. At all.

Sheesh! I mean, I know it's not gonna happen, but don't complain about it!
Anyway, at least use your imaginations and what cast would you use if Dragon Ball was redubbed (which you and I know won't)

Re: Redubbing Dragon Ball
I'd rather have a completely redone series, honestly.
Though that's even more impractical.

Re: Redubbing Dragon Ball
It's completely impractical to even have a conversation about this, it's never going to happen. Besides, I personally am satisfied with the current dub and see no reason why it should all be re-dubbed. Not only that, but Funimation also sees this as "good enough" to satisfy the masses. Even if they did a re-dub on it, there is no profit to be made. It costs a lot of money, time and effort to dub just one episode, let alone 153.Gokuman1993 wrote:Sheesh! Re: Redubbing Dragon Ball
I think it would actually be a good idea. Something like Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood would've been SO much more popular than Kai. One of the biggest complaints was that it wasn't actually re-animated. Plus it wasn't really a Toriyama cut if they skipped a most of the story. I mean, jeez, Toei... >_> The new animations usually sucked, the music fiasco, horrible animations left in, just so much yuck. Plus they tried too hard to please both sides of the fandom.CaBrPi wrote:I'd rather have a completely redone series, honestly.

Re: Redubbing Dragon Ball
It would be cool to see the entire DB series re-dubbed, but it will never happen (especially since most fans find it to be the best of the original 3 series dub-wise.)
The only thing I could see FUNimation doing in the future is re-dubbing some lines here and there to fix some plot-holes or inconsistencies (like Kami exposing his alien origin years before the revelation in DBZ, for example.)

Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Ocean could do it as it could be new to them....
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

Ocean already dubbed Dragon Ball. They used a cheaper actor pool, but it was Ocean Productions none the less.

Re: Redubbing Dragon Ball
It made sense for Kai because they were going to be airing it. Do you think in today's world they'd be airing all 153 episodes of Dragon Ball and 291 episodes of Dragon Ball Z? No. To redub that series would cost so much money. And the revenue wouldn't make any difference. There would be no merchandise sponsors for the release or anything. It would just be them wasting tons of money, just so they can give you 40 episodes per release for like $40. It makes no sense to do so on their part.

Well, if you want to get technical, Hong Kong is getting the entire DB (not Z) redubbed entirely from scratch and it's going to air starting later this week. I've told VegettoEX months ahead of time via PM and he hasn't even dignified the news yet. The news has been officially plastered all over TVB's forums and other local gaming mags. The original Cantonese dub was fine but a redub is necessary since there may been a few cuts for its first Hong Kong airing back in the late 80s.
P.S. I'd like to throw a wrench @ Mr. Labrie.

Mike hasn't checked his PM box in forever. It's long been filled, thus he wouldn't have gotten your PM anyway.tinlunlau wrote:sangofe wrote:I think USA's the only country on this blue planet that's even gotten part of DBZ re-dubbed, and then people talk about lesser popular series like DB and DBGT getting re-dubbed? Re: Redubbing Dragon Ball
A new Dragon Ball dub wouldn't make a difference to me either way.
I mean I'll be happy that there's a new dub and it's getting aired on TV and all of that, but I wouldn't watch the dub seriously. I'd just watch a couple of episodes here and there to check it out, but I'll stick to the JP version.
