Regarding FUNimation (CD/Merch C&D)

Posting this here since (duh) FUNi holds the license for Dragonball in North America, and such decisions might impact those of us who elect to buy imported merchandise in the future. I, personally, think it's ridiculous. We're talking about licensed products, not bootlegs.

What do you guys think?

I think funimation's being a little overzealous. If they're ok with ordering a product straight from a Japanese site, what difference does it make if the same product comes from a U.S. store?

It must be because of this agreement with Aniplex, so maybe they want people ordering from only that site if they're going to be buying imported products.

I was deciding whether or not to buy FUNimation's Dragonball Z DVD Boxsets (because as far as I understand there are no English subs on the DragonBoxes) or if I was going to buy Viz's Dragonball Z manga volumes. News like this, though not something that makes me want to boycott FUNimation completely, did help me decide to give my money to Viz instead of FUNimation this time.

However, I'm still going to buy the US release of Final Bout tomorrow.

Oh God, please don't. It's so bad. Final Bout is, without a doubt, the worst game I've ever played. It's not even a game, it's a broken alpha build. I spent $3.00 on a copy years ago, and still feel bad that I bought it :P

My standards aren't too high. I can find myself enjoying some really obscure stuff since I don't play games too often anymore. I'm the kind of guy who gets more enjoyment out of Ultimate Battle 22 than I do Sparking.

Please, please, please don't get final bout. Just think about it like this:

Do I want to play as Super Saiyan Gouku or Super Goku? They wear different colored clothes - that's it. But they're completly different characters on the character select screen!

Idiocy like that is just the kind of thing that's evident in final bout, please please please don't!

Anyway... FUNI seems pissed that AKA's selling the same discs - maybe FUNI should talk to Aniplex about their "exclusive" deal.

Maybe AKA got the CDs before the deal was sealed?

Hopefully if FUNi is that mad about it that they'll release the CDs themselves. If they go to this trouble without releasing the CDs it won't really make sense.

I wonder just how far FUNimation would go to protect their "exclusive rights". Whether they're in the right or not, I'm not sure it'd be good publicity for them to bash such a small web group over the head with legal proceedings, and over such dubious circumstances.

The NUMBER ONE Goten fan, and a fucking epic one at that.

The thing people seem to misunderstand is that the site that was told to stop selling those items is making the profits themselves. They purchase them and then resell them. They'd have to be a major store that gives the profits back to Aniplex, like how FUNimation receives profits from English related products of their shows from places such as Amazon.com.

Because FUNimation holds the rights to Fullmetal Alchemist in the US and a store is making its own profit off of something FMA related (regardless if it's from the US or Japan or where ever), this violates the copyright laws. FUNimation isn't making a dime off of the profit. Hence why retailers make a big fuss when things are stollen. Not because they don't make a profit, but because the money has to also go back to the supplier.

You have no need to worry about importing something like the individual DVDs or Dragon Box sets from CDJapan or Amazon since they've gotten permission from the companies to legally sell them. Used items, however, don't have the same effect since they've already been purchased before and are used, as their labels imply.

The biggest shocker, for me, was how FUNImation twisted the words around in the e-mail to the site host. They outright lied to make a better case for themselves.

That disgusts me.

Though, before I read Tsukento's post, I thought they were in the wrong altogether, but I was set straight just in time.
